  1. "There's a sucker born every minute" - P.T. Barnum
  2. Because after all, they are "The Best (blindly loyal) Fans in Baseball." Isn't it about time for Sammy to follow McLiar's lead and apologize to the fans for his use of steroids and HGH, the corked bat, leaving the park during the game, alienating his teammates, etc? Why is he in hiding? Apologize? For peeling these franchises off the mat and making them relevant again? Sosa played thirteen seasons for the Cubs, yet the 'roid truthers just want to remember 6/3/03 and 9/25/04. Never mind that he led the team out of the darkest days of 1994 and to a level of popularity only dreamed about previously. I'm grateful for what these men did. I remember what MLB was like from '95-'97. Reality is this: Mark Grace (and Jack Clark) didn't sell tickets.[/quote] Like Sammy, the WWF sold a lot of tickets and brought pro wrestling to a level of popularity only dreamed about previously. Maybe Sammy should join the WWF. He'd be a "Natural." .

  4. I'm sorry, how does this do anything except back up my point? You're willing to give him a pass on the issue of steroids prior to 2000 despite all of his credentials? What, was he just missing it everytime it was discussed or guys wer leaving the evidence sitting around their lockers or clubhouses? Was he just incompetent? Were PED's only being handled and used by a secret cabal of sports masterminds who kept it skillfully hidden from everyone else? I really don't see how listing the guy's credentials does anything to defend why he either completely missed the PED story for decades or willfully chose to ignore it or not pursue it. It's one of those three options. Which is it? Maybe we can give him a medal for whichever one it was since he did it so "well" for so long despite this being a gigantic open secret for decades. He's a sports columnist not a detective. Attacking Telander is really making you look silly. And Nuts & Gum superior credential are?
  5. Telander was a student athlete and graduated from Northwestern with a degree in Journalism. He had a best selling book in the early 20s that was later turned into a movie. He was one of the pioneers of talk radio. He has earned too many writing awards to name. And the sports journalistic credentials of Nuts & Gum are?
  6. Fixed. Thanks Truff.
  7. Hey Nuts, Bruce Miles has been covering baseball for over 20 years and has been the Cubs beat writer since 1998 but he never exposed Sammy's steroid use despite seeing him play almost everyday. Does that mean he's not a great writer, of course not, but he's not a private investigator or investigative reporter and neither is Telander. And for the record, Bruce didn't vote McLiar into the Hall of Fame either.
  8. Let's try to downplay McGwire actions by shooting the messenger. Problem with that is you have your facts wrong - yet again. Telander was writing about steroid use for years. Part of the reason he's won so many writing awards.
  9. Telander nails it. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/telander/1992166,CST-SPT-rick15.article
  10. Good for Norm. He's a class act but he's 63 and already has a championship ring courtesy of USC. Makes sense that he would want to stay with a program with less pressure, tradition and expectations.
  11. McGwire is slime and played you like a sap.
  12. Your just happy the Trojans didn't steal the great Ron Zook from the Illini.
  13. Fixed. And it's going to be awesome. Part of me fears that SC wouldn't have gotten a guy like Kiffin if he had received any indication that the NCAA was coming down hard on them. I mean, he was THERE during the heyday of these violations, for God's sake. what does "a guy like kiffin" mean? a guy who was a miserable, overmatched pro coach hated by his entire organization and then won like 7 games in 1 season at tennessee? Pete Carroll's record wasn't that great until he got to USC.
  14. 11 National Championships, the Kiffin's, Norm Chow, Southern Cal weather and women or South Bend Indiana, mediocre football and five months of snow - Tough choice.
  15. Must of found out all the Tennessee recruits Lane is bringing with him to USC.
  16. Say good bye to Norm Chow. He's being targeting as well.
  17. I like Kiffin coming home. Only a matter of time now until National Championship #12 for the Trojans.
  18. I am sure all the Who's down then in Hooterville will continue to defend him like the blind sheep they are. Their argument will just change from "he's never flunked a drug test" to "big deal, everyone was doing it." I'm down in Hooterville right now and it's not a praisefest. The local alt-rock radio station morning DJs were ripping into McGwire pretty hard. They replayed the Costas MLB interview with sappy music and made snarky comments. Even most of the callers were between "meh" to irritated. But I will give the Cardinals one thing: this was run about 100% better than A Roid's admission last season: carefully structured and perfectly timed. Tiger Woods' people should be calling whatever PR firm handled this right away. I was referring more to the fans than the media. Any doubt he won't get a standing ovation from "the best fans in baseball"?

  20. I said it when he signed with USC. How many great skill players have ever come out of Proviso West?
  21. No great loss. He's over-rated. Might actually get some playing time at one of those schools.
  22. I am sure all the Who's down then in Hooterville will continue to defend him like the blind sheep they are. Their argument will just change from "he's never flunked a drug test" to "big deal, everyone was doing it."
  23. Five is a little low for the Trojans but will all the recent noise it's understandable. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1037628
  24. How did your illini do in their bowl? abuck's an Iowa State fan. LOL. Well that explains a lot.
  25. Lol why am I not surprised they're no USC, that's for sure. Good point. They haven't come close to winning 11 National Championships like the Trojans have.
