  1. .359/.422/.537 in triple A last year ignorance ](*,) Those are great #'s for the Iowa Cubs. However, I'm more interested in what he's continued to prove at the major league level - he sucks - year after year after year. He's played in the majors for one year. ONE. YEAR. He's got nothing more to prove in the minors, he has no options left, and the Cubs have nobody obviously better on the team at SS. There's no reason he can't at least get a shot this year, at least in some kind of platoon option with Theriot.
  2. I thought I'd always heard he was a good defender? He gets to a lot of balls, and makes a lot of tough plays. Tendency to botch the easy ones, though.
  3. Now sure, Lilly is pitching poorly, but that's no reason to wish death on him...
  4. After back to back walks, Jose Bautista pops out to SS on the first pitch. Way to go, slugger.
  5. For goodness sake, Lilly, you have a seven run lead. Make them hit the ball.
  6. I know, I'm almost completely satisfied with every starting position player on this team. Cept CF and SS...and sometimes RF In before the edit, Fuku-hater. :)
  7. :?:   If there are any more smilies showing confusion that I missed here, tell me. They all fit. What's so confusing about it? I'm reading it as Dusty hoping EE would bunt for a three-run homer...
  8. I am hoping they only use Marmol if it's a one-run game, or a situation where the current batter can tie/win the game. I'm ok with the Cubs using anyone else in a more manageable game. Heck, I have more faith in Wuertz right now than Howry. Get Wuertz and Pignatiello some time.
  9. Huh, Yankees game on ESPN. What are the odds?
  10. The Hawks blew their chance at a playoff spot in January/February where they went 1-14 over a 15 game stretch. Sure, 6 regular players were out, including Toews and Havlat, but if they even got 1 extra win in that stretch, they're in.
  11. did Washington lose? Yeah, today. I guess they're 4 games into the season. EDIT: Also, just one winless team: Detroit.
  12. Heh, 3 games into the season and there's only one defeated team: Kansas City.
  13. Blackhawk fans everywhere are huge Blues and Oilers fans tonight....which seems wrong. But, wins by both and the Blackhawks only have to beat Nashville at home and win at Detroit to make the playoffs.
  14. well, he's not now -- he has a save Plus, he has a 100% save conversion rate. He's unstoppable!
  15. #-o Hey, hey, I said almost. Now, Kerry, get Kendall out.
  16. I almost want Counsell to reach, just so Kendall can end the game.
  17. Woody with Hart, Hardy, Counsell and Kendall. Four hitters who shouldn't pose a threat, but for some reason that sounds like a murderer's row to Cub pitching, and will only end with a Kendall GS.
  18. What a terrible hire...
  19. both. the prestige of the program is still mostly intact. i'd go so far as to say top 6. unc duke kentucky kansas ucla iu in no particular order. it's tough for me to argue for or against. i'm not close enough to the situation, but it seems that Indiana hasn't had an "elite" team in a long time, Mike Davis' Final Four run not withstanding. I mean, would you consider Penn State a top 10 prestige job in football? that's a tough one. it's going to be VERY interesting to see what happens when JoePa retires. knowing Penn State, they'll just promote a coordinator and completely rule out the idea of getting a marquee head coach from outside the system As football prestige goes, it's difficult to argue a basis, but based on overall program winning percentage, the following 10 programs are the most prestigious: Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Alabama, USC, Nebraska, Tennessee, Penn State. That leaves out programs like Florida State, Florida, Miami and LSU.
  20. I got 3 of 4 right last night, and lost ground in the NSBB pool. I can still get 4 tonight, though. Kansas, Memphis, Texas, Wisconsin.
  21. Um, no, sorry. Skin color has nothing to do with it. No, really, it doesn't. "Gritty" (usually white, fast, high-effort & smallish) players do tend to get a lot of fan-love. Like Augie Ojeda.
  22. AL East Boston 97-65 NY Yankees 94-68 Tampa Bay 77-85 Toronto 75-87 Baltimore 63-99 Central Detroit 98-64 Cleveland 95-67 Minnesota 79-83 Chi Sox 77-85 Kansas City 68-94 West LA Angels 91-71 Oakland 83-79 Seattle 81-81 Texas 74-88 NL East NY Mets 92-70 Philadelphia 87-75 Atlanta 87-75 Florida 72-90 Washington 67-95 Central Milwaukee 93-69 Chi Cubs 88-74 St. Louis 75-87 Cincinnati 74-88 Houston 70-92 Pittsburgh 67-95 West LA Dodgers 90-72 Arizona 89-73 San Diego 87-75 Colorado 83-79 San Francisco 57-105 Playoffs: Detroit over LA Angels, Cleveland over Boston, Arizona over Milwaukee, NY Mets over LA Dodgers Detroit over Cleveland, NY Mets over Arizona NY Mets over Detroit
  23. In other college basketball news... It'll be Bradley-Tulsa in a best-of-three series for the CBI championship. NIT Final Four is set with Ohio State, Florida, Ole Miss and UMass.
  24. Granted, nothing is impossible, but it's improbable. It's also improbable for Cedeno to be as bad as Cedeno was in 2006. If either is that bad, there's plenty of chance to switch to the other after a month or two, but in a year where a game or two can be the difference between winning the division and missing the playoffs, it's not an absurd position to go with the safer bet.
