So 6 minutes to go in the first half, PSU is shooting 83% from 3-point range, but Illinois still somehow leads by 6. Reason for that? Illinois shooting 100% from the FT line. Yeah, I don't get it, either.

psu-illinois score might be lower than that... bring on the big ten brickfest. Not sure why that Iowa-Michigan score was surprising. Both teams are pretty bad. Like you said, this game won't be much better. In fact, it has a good chance to be even worse. I was expecting bad, but that second half was....really, really bad. Like I said above, Michigan went scoreless for 10 minutes, but Iowa went and trumped them by going 16 minutes in the second half without a basket (8 free throws). Iowa made 5 jumpshots for the entire game, none in the second half.

you can't really be this dense. making completely unprompted inferences of another posters racism wouldn't constitute an attempt to derail the thread? has it been your experience that people usually have no issues with these kinds of allegations? Pretty sure he was likening the spiking to Ty Cobb, who was notorious for spiking other players. And stabbing a black man over an argument. EDIT: Of course, I assume OMC doesn't like Cobb because of those actions, rather in spite of those actions, he is able to separate the baseball ability from the non-baseball behavior, and admires the baseball ability.

That sounds like a pretty fun system. Is there a similar system for teams in the Americas? yes, but its divided between south america and central/north america. its not nearly as good as uefa though. North America just this year decided to form their own Champions League, I believe. South America has been doing their own version of a Champs League (I think it's called Copa Supamericana or something like that...), and the winner of the European (UEFA) Champs league plays the winner of the South American Champs League in a winner-take-all cup, also.

Yes in the Champions League which takes place every year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Champions_League This pretty much explains the CL if you're curious. http://www.sportsargumentwiki.com/index.php?title=UEFA_Champions_League Put simply in baseball terms, the Champions League would be like if the world baseball league was a collection of the champion teams from MLB, Japan, the DR, Cuba, Puerto Rico, China, Italy, and any other pro league. All the champions would be pooled together in a league of their own and play each other for a very prestigious world championship league (except Champions League is just Europe, but semantics...). So, the Red Sox would play the Nippon Ham Fighters, and such. Countries with more prestigious leagues will get more teams eligible for the Champions League. England, for example, generally get 4 teams in (I think one year they got 5 because the defending champions didn't make the top 4 of the English Premier League the following year). Spain gets 2 or 3, Italy gets 2 or 3, Germany gets 2 or 3, France gets 2 or 3, and then the smaller countries get just their league champions.

Mount St. Mary's (NEC) and Portland State (Big Sky) earned auto bids tonight with wins. As for at-large teams' games, Pittsburgh held off Cincy 70-64, Marquette beat Seton Hall 67-54, Rhode Island lost yet again, this time to Charlotte 65-63 (they are done). Arizona looks awake so far against Oregon State, leading 45-15. EDIT: Now 59-21 at the half. Oregon State is baaaaad.

West Virginia holds off Providence 68-63, St. Joe's rolls Fordham 80-62. (I'll keep reporting bubble scores in this thread, simply to keep people updated on what's happening)

Harangody was a good choice, but I would've thought Pitino would get the nod for Coach of the Year. Maybe if they had beat Georgetown last week.

Syracuse blown out by Villanova 82-63, Dayton squeaks by Saint Louis 63-62 in OT. The bright side is maybe the selection show won't have Boeheim on standby this year to complain about not getting a bid.

And all the basketball experts will bash the Big Ten at every opportunity for "stealing" an at-large bid.

Previews of the last 4 conference tournaments: SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC For the Big Ten, not sure if I'd go so far as to say 4 teams are there for decoration, especially since one of those decorations swept the team they're playing in the first round. OTOH, would not be surprised in the least to see Minnesota or Illinois in the finals come Sunday.
