  1. Yeah, when a slump means you snap an 8-game home winning streak, you're still in good shape.
  2. That makes no sense. TCU is not going to jump both SEC teams, no matter what happens. An unconvincing win gives a greater chance of both these teams having a rematch in the championship game.
  3. I don't want to go all Sulley, so I'll just leave it at a loud sigh, ended with a massive facepalm. Hopefully the basketball season goes better.
  4. If it's tipped by the defender it can count. Like if a defender tips it at the line and the OL comes up with it it counts. If it stands, it was just that kind of season for the football team. Couldn't do one thing right when it counted.
  5. How can that possibly count? I could see if it were a fumble, but a lineman isn't an eligible receiver.
  6. Just watched a replay of the live draw, and besides being a pretty ridiculous 3 hour spectacle for a 15 minute process, did anyone else's heart skip a beat when they pulled Ivory Coast second out of Pot 3, after assigning Nigeria to Group B? I hadn't picked up on the fact they were placing African teams with CONMEBOL seeds first, not just going down the line, and that would have put Ivory Coast in with the US-England group.
  7. When half the weak teams are in your pot, there wasn't much better the US could have done with their draw. Maybe pull Italy or Argentina as a seed, but it's not awful to get the weakest teams from pots 3 and 4.
  8. Norway, 2 wins, 2 ties.
  9. I had a feeling France would get South Africa's group after the seed announcements. Now it's like all the teams they wanted to advance will get a fair shot. Except maybe Brazil.
  10. I could definitely see three 1-0-2 teams in Group G, advancement depending on who thrashes North Korea the worst.
  11. And yeah, South Africa got a terrible draw for being seeded. When's the last time the host nation failed to make it out of group play?
  12. According to FIFA ranking, yes, but Slovenia and Algeria are arguably the weakest teams in their respective pools. Other than the England draw, it all worked out.
  13. Draw by SPI: Group A: South Africa (65), Mexico (19), France (11), Uruguay (10) Group B: Argentina (5), Nigeria (34), South Korea (42), Greece (33) Group C: England (3), United States (16), Algeria (46), Slovenia (37) Group D: Germany (6), Australia (23), Serbia (13), Ghana (36) Group E: Netherlands (4), Denmark (20), Japan (35), Cameroon (15) Group F: Italy (12), Paraguay (18), New Zealand (91), Slovakia (50) Group G: Brazil (1), North Korea (92), Ivory Coast (9), Portugal (7) Group H: Spain (2), Switzerland (31), Honduras (25), Chile (8) Difficulty of group by average SPI: Group H: 79.35 Group E: 78.125 Group D: 77.475 Group G: 76.875 Group C: 76.725 Group A: 75.25 Group B: 75.15 Group F: 70.45 What it means: - Group G is definitely the Group of Death, but North Korea is so weak that the average team rating is brought down. - Group F is so cake, Italy could walk through 10-man. - Groups H, E and D don't look really strong up front, but none has a bad team in the group. - Spain and Brazil certainly weren't done any favors in their groups, other than North Korea.
  14. Yeah, I don't mean to be disrespectful to the Pac-10 fans here or the conference in general, but I find it amazing that we're 3 weeks into the season and there's really not a signature victory of note for anyone in the conference. EDIT: Arguably, the best win in the conference so far is Oregon State's 7 point win at George Washington. Or possibly ASU's neutral-court victory over a rebuilding LSU.
  15. I don't fear them either, but I'd rather avoid them than Slovakia/Slovenia/Switzerland/Greece. I suppose as long as they avoid Portugal, it's not bad. EDIT: And the draw is starting...now! EDIT 2: Never mind, ESPN lied and it doesn't start for 45 minutes. I wonder when the actual draw starts. Mostly curious to what will be going on in 80 minutes when I leave for lunch and if I can catch any of it on tv. According to the live draw chat, the actual draw starts at 12:45 ET and will last 3 hours.

  17. Out of each pool, here's who I'd like to avoid: Seeds: Brazil, England, Germany, Spain CAF/CONMEBOL: Chile, Ivory Coast, Uruguay, Cameroon Europe: Portugal, France, Serbia, Denmark If we get one of each of those, that's officially the Group of Death. If we get none of those, I like our chances to advance.
  18. Premature court rush in Texas Tech.
  19. I took a shot at setting up balanced groups (as much as possible, as the group that gets New Zealand or North Korea is automatically going to be weaker than the rest), based on SPI rating rather than FIFA: Brazil (1), Denmark (20), USA (16), Algeria (46) Spain (2), Slovakia (50), Mexico (19), Paraguay (18) England (3), Slovenia (37), Australia (23), Cameroon (15) Holland (4), Serbia (13), Honduras (25), Ghana (36) Argentina (5), France (11), North Korea (92), Nigeria (34) Germany (6), Switzerland (31), New Zealand (91), Uruguay (10) Italy (12), Greece (33), South Korea (42), Ivory Coast (9) South Africa (65), Portugal (7), Japan (35), Chile (8) The Germany and Argentina groups look a little weaker than the rest, but there's such a disparity in the CONCACAF/AFC pool that there's really no way to be perfectly fair. Essentially, there are 2 SPI top 16 teams in each group.
  20. Oliver Purnell likely not very popular in ACC country right now.
  21. Probably not, since they win every year. I think for many Big Ten fans, it's not so much about winning the challenge every year as it is winning the challenge once, so the media pundits can get off the ACC's superiority for at least a bit.
  22. I think the tandem of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are probably the most popular athletes in Chicago.
  23. So, most disappointing ACC/Big Ten performance thus far: Clemson or Michigan?
  24. England-Mexico-France-Ivory Coast would do well to hose France and Mexico.
