  1. If anything, that was a makeup call for something earlier, because I didn't see anything.
  2. Before the FG, Philly needed 2 TDs. After the FG, Philly needs 2 TDs.
  3. Still, better than a red zone INT, which I feared on the 3rd down play.
  4. Is it so hard to agree that while Paul might be the best player on a per-minute basis, his penchant for injuries limits his aggregate value?
  5. Top 5 players in WP82 (win shares per 82 games) as of Thursday: 1. LeBron James - 24.9 2. Deron Williams - 24.1 3. Kobe Bryant - 21.6 4. Kevin Durant - 20.5 5. Derrick Rose - 19.9
  6. I think that one means more to ND fans than any other win over the last 10 years.
  7. again? Just because I was curious, the lowest rated major conference basketball team since Ken Pomeroy started keeping track (2003) was Oregon State, 2008. It's a really low bar, one I think DePaul isn't bad enough to reset.
  8. *facepalm* Can we not get into another 5 page argument about the statisticians? You know how I feel. Hollinger is a crackhead. :-" Sure, except that he doesn't rank the teams.
  9. *facepalm*
  10. I'd be ecstatic if Orlando hadn't matched Redick.
  11. 15% of the season: meaningless.
  12. Also, for a different statistical look, here is BP's POW rating: TEAM, POW 1. hornets,neworleans, 67.7 2. celtics,boston, 62.3 3. spurs,sanantonio, 58.0 4. bulls,chicago, 56.7 5. lakers,losangeles, 54.8 6. heat,miami, 54.7 7. mavericks,dallas, 52.3 8. jazz,utah, 51.7 9. magic,orlando, 50.8 10. trailblazers,portland, 48.5 11. thunder,oklahomacity, 48.0 12. nuggets,denver, 47.7 13. suns,phoenix, 43.7 14. hawks,atlanta, 41.7 15. bucks,milwaukee, 41.4 16. bobcats,charlotte, 35.3 17. pacers,indiana, 34.9 18. warriors,goldenstate, 34.4 19. grizzlies,memphis, 34.1 20. rockets,houston, 33.9 21. knicks,newyork, 32.8 22. raptors,toronto, 30.4 23. pistons,detroit, 30.4 24. cavaliers,cleveland, 29.0 25. nets,newjersey, 27.4 26. 76ers,philadelphia, 26.0 27. kings,sacramento, 22.1 28. wizards,washington, 21.4 29. timberwolves,minnesota, 19.9 30. clippers,losangeles, 12.7 ...to which I, as a Bulls fan, can only say "Huh...wow." That number is a wins projection based on current level of play.
  13. The down side of having a team built with only 4 players above replacement level (although 3 were far above replacement level) is that if one or two of those go down, it's a huge hit to team performance. The up side of having a team built with 8 replacement level players is that the D-league is full of them, so you could potentially mix and match at will.
  14. Of course, those haven't taken into account this week's results. Also, the Bears should get a bit of a disclaimer for 6 quarters of Todd Collins football.
  15. You mean the call that should have been a face mask, not a horse-collar? Sure, it was the wrong penalty call, but the end result was the same.
  16. My feelings are that the top 5 teams in the NFC are pretty even at this point between Philly, NY, Green Bay, Atlanta and New Orleans. Tampa and the Bears are still a clear step behind right now. The NFC West might just be four of the five or six worst teams in the NFC overall this year.
  17. So, a week later, updated Sagarin predictor ratings: 1. Miami Heat (yes, still) 2. New Orleans Hornets 3. San Antonio Spurs 4. Los Angeles Lakers 5. Boston Celtics 6. Orlando Magic 7. Dallas Mavericks 8. Chicago Bulls 9. Denver Nuggets 10. Portland Trail Blazers 11. Utah Jazz 12. Indiana Pacers 13. Milwaukee Bucks 14. Atlanta Hawks 15. Oklahoma City Thunder 16. Phoenix Suns 17. Charlotte Bobcats 18. Houston Rockets 19. Toronto Raptors 20. Memphis Grizzlies 21. Philadelphia 76ers 22. New York Knicks 23. New Jersey Nets 24. Golden State Warriors 25. Cleveland Cavaliers 26. Detroit Pistons 27. Washington Wizards 28. Sacramento Kings 29. Minnesota Timberwolves 30. Los Angeles Clippers West and East even more balanced this week, splitting the top 6, 8, and 14 spots. I would have to think Miami would not continue to be 0-5 in games decided by 5 or less and 8-0 in all other games.
  18. The division is a much safer route to go than the wild card if you want to make the playoffs. As far as the Wild Card goes, there are realistically 4 teams fighting for 2 spots: Bears/Packers loser Saints Bucs Giants Technically the Redskins (5-5) have an outside shot as well. But based on having 4 different 7-3 teams fighting for a spot, I'm starting to wonder if 10-6 is not going to be good enough to make the playoffs. Will the Giants go worse than 4-2 and the Bucs finish 2-4? In that case 10-6 will take a WC spot. If the Giants go 4-2 or better, and/or the Bucs do better than 2-4, we're looking at a 10-6 team not making the playoffs most likely. I wouldn't go handing the divisions to the Falcons and Eagles just yet, either. In reality, there are 7-8 teams fighting for 5 spots, between Atlanta, Philly, Chicago, Green Bay, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, New York and maybe Washington. At this time, I think the odd teams out are going to be Washington, Tampa Bay and Chicago, but there's still plenty of time left for those teams to improve, or the other teams to get worse.
  19. Would be kind of nice if the Eagles had a let down in this one. Or that the Bears really have improved that much and win anyway with the extra rest.
  20. I think you need look no further than the Bulls start without Boozer to see how good they could be (Hollinger's projecting 50 wins). If any coach is worth 9 losses, VDN is that coach.
  21. Signs the NFC race is tight: the result of this game bumped Philly to 2nd and NY to 7th in the NFC standings.
  22. Might? That is a no brainer. The fun thing is that if we finished with a 6 seed we could be looking at a WC game against GB. Even though thats a much harder game I'd love to play the packers in the playoffs. It would be nice to propel packers-bears over pakersvikings as the chief rivalry in the north I'd much rather that happened in the NFC championship game.
  23. If Philly can get it to 4th and 1 here, I think they should just go for it. Get the first and the game's over.
  24. I think that Coughlin was hoping that challenge flag was a "do-over" flag.
  25. Only Houston could turn a first and goal from the 1 up 1 with a minute to play into a loss in 7 plays.
