  1. Yepez in a lot of trouble today. -Walk and a couple deep fly balls in the first. -Double and single to start 2nd, but got out of it while starting a 1-6-3 DP, all while holding a runner at 3B. -Double and 2-run HR in the 3rd. 3 IP, 4 hits, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K.
  2. I always thought he had a pretty swing and would be able to hit for a respectable average in the majors. He's great defensively. My concern has always been his ability to take walks and hit for power as a 1B/corner OF.
  3. This should be an interesting game with a LHP on the mound. Lee's only backups are LH (Walker, Mabry). I'm sure Jones will be in the lineup too, so that's 2 LH hitters that are gonna have to play against Mulder. Good thing Mulder sucks though. Cubs will score. Bad matchup for Williams, though. Cards will take walks, he will issue them. He has to keep the lesser players in the lineup off base via BB, and keep Edmonds struggling. Walks to non-Pujols, Rolen, Jedmonds hitters are a recipe for disaster.
  4. Seconded. Thirded. Of course, I blame Pittsburgh for pitching to him just once.
  5. Also of note, the schedule isn't all that tough for the next month. At St. Louis will be tough and Milwaukee (end of April) is always tough. But the Cubs see Florida 6 times. Washington 3. Have a road trip outwest, but that's a very weak division.
  6. Another thing that sucks....Brian Dopirak's opening day broken foot. The way he hit this spring, if he'd carried that over to the regular season, he'd have a good shot of being called up if Lee is DL'd.
  7. Only problem. Chipper is less of a loss than Lee. The Braves had Wilson Betemit (who's hit everything for the last year and a month) and Andy Marte to take his place. The Cubs have Mabry or Hairston/Perez if they move Walker to 1b. And it doesn't mean anything, but Francouer is/was a better prospect than Murton or Cedeno. Edit: The good thing is the Cubs possibly get 3 of what could be the league's best SPs back in the next few weeks, which could keep them afloat if Derrek is out for a while.
  8. wow. He had a young son when he was with Texas a few years back (who I have a funny story about). I'm guessing the kid is still school age. Tough loss. Heart goes out to his family.
  9. Agreed. You're replacing Lee, 2005's most productive offensive player, with a combination of Neifi Perez, John Mabry, and Jerry Hairston.
  10. That's exactly the lineup I'd put out there.
  11. You know it's bad when Rusch is pitching better than you. He's had relievers give up 1/2 of his 8 ERs after he left games so far. Oh yeah, and the kid missed the last month plus of last year with just 11 starts above A ball. He left the baserunners on. Turning the ball over with the bases juiced and no outs isn't a recipe for success. His inexperience above A ball is supposed to be a selling point for Marshall? ...or an excuse for his performance. Your bashing of anything non-veteran is supposed to be proving a point? ...or an excuse for you trolling for arguments.

  13. and yet we have how many K's already? :x It will change if that keeps happening. Lee just missed. Barrett hit the ball hard. Mabry and Jones helped him out a bit.
  14. Somebody tell Aramis that he's not in Pittsburgh. He can be consistent now.
  15. I know Maddux has a history with the Cubs and free agency, but it gives me hope that the Cubs didn't even think about signing Alou after an all world season because of his age. They didn't go after Giles because of age. Didn't sign Grudz after a good season because of age. I don't think Hendry will re-sign Maddux, because of age.
  16. Pie tries to split the OFs, but the LF runs it down.
  17. Bases loaded walk by Sing. LIX is up as the tying run.
  18. And Guzman's at 23/3, but gave up as many HRs in the 2nd inning today as the other two have combined for ERs.
  19. Remarkable that he can have a 1.04 WHIP, 12.7 K/9, and a 11.5 K/BB, but a 6.06 ERA. Darnit!
  20. Amazing Peripherals. You would think a .238 BAA, with a 12.68 K/9 and a 11.5:1 BB:K ratio would win him an ERA title.
  21. Felix hasn't homered in a while. He's really been getting fooled lately.
