    Bad news, Angel Guzman has allowed LH hitters to go 6-17 with a HR, 2 doubles, and with just 2 of his 23 Ks against them. Good news, the Marlins weakest hitter is their only lefty in the lineup.

    Is Willingham not catching anymore? I know he was behind the plate opening day, but I haven't noticed him there much more than that.

    Jones? Neifi? Rusch? (Just 3 horrible deadweight signings/extensions) I wasn't arguing over whether the signings were good or bad. Just that they aren't old.

    The team overall is younger. It's not just that they are giving Murton and Cedeno a chance to play everyday. It's also that the organization finally looks to have some sort of a plan. Other than the Maddux signing, Hendry has not gone out and given multi-year deals to players in their post-prime years. Gotta love the fact that the Cubs position players (outside of Mabry) and pitching staff (other than Maddux) are all 32 and under.

    With all due respect, there have been a bunch of stupid inappropriate comments in this thread. If you don't like things on this board, there's an easy solution. I'm so sick of this BS. What's the point of a message board if everyone agrees and is kissing each other's butts? It makes no sense to me that people can have such lack of appreciation and respect for the man who built the best Cubs community on the web all by himself, and the moderators who work to keep this site clean FOR FREE. To suggest that people get banned for disagreeing is completely disrespectful of everything this site was built on and all the hard work everyone who has contributed their free time to this community.

    I believe coaches had Harvey working on going to RF this spring. He's not as bad as people are making him out to be. He's a lot more raw than guys on the "OOPS" list in the other thread.

    This is Guzman's 3rd time in 4 starts this year facing the Marlins franchise. He was 1-1, with 5 shutout innings the first start and 7 ERs in 6 innings in his 2nd vs. Albuquerque.

    The bullpen isn't gonna be perfect, but they've done a good job of giving up their runs when the game isn't on the line. Howry, Dempster, Eyre, and Williamson have been lights out when it has mattered.

    Last comment on this by me in a game thread (tonight). The are opportunity costs associated with any move. We'll never know what would have happend if Barrett hits in that AB. JJ bunting was fine by me. The JJ bunt was better, simply because it was later in the game and the 7th place hitter who can't hit lefties facing a lefty. But still....2 batters, 2 doubles. Willis was losing it. Same result if Jones hits the ball to the right side, and there's more of a chance of it going thru a hole.

    What is this? When did Pagan get so good? I know he's miles better than Bynum and Neifi, but he's now a "genuine bat"? BTW, Hairston is a better bat off the bench than Pagan too.

    And that's why you don't judge a pitcher after 3 starts! Of course, you don't judge him after 4 either, especially if the last is against a team who faced nearly to a man last year in AA.

    Fast forward the same situation 5 innings. Why does one run later mean more than one run now? A run is a run; I'll take one in whatever inning I can get it in. Because the marlins have 5 innings to get that run back. in the 7 or 8 they have less outs. but if the Cubs didn't get the run, the Marlins would have had 5 innings to take the lead, I like 1 run lead with our pen + the conditions. True, the conditions make it more digestable. It still tastes bad but im not vomitting. I can't beleive some of you guys. We're complaining because of how we got a RUN!!? Yikes!! :lol: The discussion started before the run. YIKES!

If you play for one run that is the best outcome you can expect. You should only play for one run if you know that is all you will need (i.e., late in a game) IMO, it wasn't horrible, merely bad. Barrett is one of the better hitters on the team Dontrell was having problem with control (as evidenced by the walk and then groving one to Murt). JJ was in the hole. Exactly. I understand the conditions. But Barrett is the team's 3rd best hitter and in the 5th slot, an RBI slot. And I especially hate a bunt after a walk. 1. Pitcher could be wild and could give you a free base. 2. Pitcher could groove one not wanting to walk another batter.
