  1. Terrible decision to take that risk at a critical juncture. Unlike him as far as I know. Unlike playoff him.
  2. Superior coaching and great talent evaluators, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Insane how they keep losing offensive coordinators yet their offense gets better each time. From Cameron to Caldwell to Kubiak. Not to mention, they've had Pagano, Rex Ryan, Hue Jackson, and Greg Mattison as DCs over the last 8 years.
  3. Would do? Or did several times over the last 2 years?
  4. I love Bowles but don't like Roman, his rumored OC. I think Quinn is OK (may not be ready), but don't like his rumored OC, Kyle Shanahan. I'm fine with Kubiak and he may be the best of all worlds (experience, some familiarity with a previously successful Cutler offense, not old and/or terrible) But I'm starting to open my eyes to Teryl Austin. Seems like the Pace of head coaching candidates. Quietly part of 3 Superbowl teams. Only 1 season as a coordinator, but people he's worked with speak highly of him.
  5. The Ravens are so boring. How the [expletive] are they this good?
  6. there were rotating captains each game, right? That's what Briggs said. Don't remember hearing it before this... Just weird Oh I remember. They made a big deal about who went out for the coin toss each game. Subtly a pretty bad move if it even remotely matters at all (debatable). No accountability was kind of a theme for this year. I don't know if nobody felt like a leader (or felt like they had a leader) because of lack of captains.
  7. For more ties to potential Bears coaches.... Adam Gase, the Denver OC who already interviewed for Bears HC job, is married to the daughter of Saints LB coach, Joe Vitt.
  8. He was already promoted twice and rumors were he was going back to the Saints, with another increase in responsibility.
  9. That's exactly what I want. This is the perfect time to bring in a defensive coach like Bowles. The defense is going to have a bunch of young players next year. Briggs won't be around to control the defensive lockerroom. This is a very moldable group of defenders, and I think they need a strong leader. I think the offense can kind of police themselves. Obviously, you need a good OC but I think there is enough veteran leadership on that side of the ball with Cutler, Marshall, Garza, and guys like Forte, Bushrod, and Slauson lead by example. And Long is the "rah rah" guy.
  10. Sean Payton is an EIU alum....I'll trade a 1st for him :) Ah forgot about him.
  11. Connecting the dots hypothetically here. Pace = EIU alum Mike Shanahan = EIU alum Bears= not interested in Mike though Kyle Shanahan =Mikes son. Just got out from Cleveland Dan Quinn = already interviewed for HC job, Kyle is said to be his OC if he gets a job. Could that be what the Bears have in mind? Or they could be trading for Romo. Or Jimmy Garoppolo. Or it could mean nothing.
  12. I hope this wasn't a different for different's sake situation. But I do like that he is very different from Emery. He's young, not a "lifer" who paid his dues. He didn't spend 20 years teach S&C in college. He's a handsome man in the mold of Theo Epstein..., ok I'm done. My understanding of the Saints is they are not a feature back team, they rotate multiple guys with varying skillsets. I like that type of approach to the roster. This is what I wanted. I didn't know much about Pace, but I knew the Saints wanted to keep him. That was good enough for me. I was OK with Ballard, but this seems better.
  13. Scientific? Who said it was? Logical? Bears said next coach/GM will determine if Cutler is back. Obviously they don't feel he's the longterm answer if there's even a question now. Why hire a guy to make the best of 2 years in the grand scheme of things? i just don't think you know what you are arguing. You insist that there has been some sort of special treatment of Jay above the normal treatment of a similar-caliber quarterback. That the Bears have made moves because of him that no other team would have made for similar Quarterback X. That his simple existence on the roster has caused mass insanity and incompetence among coaches and GMs. I assure you that any incompetence or insanity was pre-existing and not Jay's fault. You absolutely cannot separate Jay from the QB position or his talent-level. This is why you're being a meatball, because a normal person looks at Jay Cutler and sees Problem is Scherff is destined to be an NFL guard. I'd be fine with pass rusher (like Ray, Gregory and Fowler). but above average QB that's prone to risk-taking and mistakes. You look at Jay Cutler and see someone who is ruining your dreams and causing others to go mad. Bears management tried to make the offense good, that's it. They tried to amass a line and a stable of receivers that can run and catch and score TDs. That has nothing to do with Jay Cutler, Cutler simply happened to be the quarterback when this all happened. Saying that they shouldn't try to build around Jay ascribes a measure of blame on him for simply being himself. Like this was part of his evil plan to get the coach and GM fired and he's not deserving of usable offensive pieces around him. The simple thought that the Bears made a mistake by trying to "build around Jay" is so absurd and meatballish i have no words. You are a lunatic. But I will humor you. I've literally said in every post where I said the Bears were making moves because of Cutler, that they should have done all those things. See page 66 and 68. Never have I said it was a mistake. Never have I said he was special or didn't deserve to have the team built around him.
  14. Problem is Scherff is destined to be an NFL guard. I'd be fine with pass rusher (like Ray, Gregory and Fowler). But I may be leaning towards Ronnie Stanley from ND at 7. Tremendous upside. Would help if he declared in the next few days.
  15. But not at 63 (when the season starts), with 1 winning season in 8 years. Convenient to leave out his college coaching success. Hey Chip Kelly never had a winning NFL season before getting the Eagles job.
  16. I did say ONE or 2. And first round picks get an option which basically makes it a 5-year deal. Sitting for 1 of 5 years isn't that big of a deal. That being said, I know there's no way he sits for a year. Oh and I think Lovie picks him.
  17. Unless he loses his job soon, Caldwell will also join the 60-plus year old coaches. He is 2.5 years younger than Shanahan and was hired to try and get the most out of a veteran QB with a huge contract, no playoff wins and a sub sub .500 record. I'd like to find the guy who will be here for the next 10 years because that probably means he will be pretty good. But being head coach for 10 years doesn't mean you've achieved greatness (see Smith, Lovie or Lewis, Marvin). Relative youth doesn't mean much either. The history of this league is littered with 49 year old failed head coaches. I want the guy who can do the best job the next few years, and I don't see anybody out there who is a slam dunk great candidate. Kubiak would be my preference. Shanahan would be perfectly acceptable. Honestly I know where u are coming from. But Caldwell is younger and recently had success unlike Shanahan. Shanahan just had success, what, 2 years ago? Otherwise known as once since 2006.
  18. Maybe it isn't "best case", but it's a pretty likely scenario. But 2018 Shanahan will be 66 years old. He'd be 4 years older than every coach in the league now other than Coughlin who is 67. Coaches don't typically coach at that age. Carroll Forgot the word "now". Carroll is the same age as Shanny now (as is Belichick). He's actually a month younger Shanahan is younger than both of them. We keep repeating this fact. All born in 1952. Belichick in April. Shanahan in Aug. Carroll in September. Edit. I guess Carroll was born in 51 per Wikipedia. Still "younger" isn't a big deal when u are talking about 4 months.

Coaches don't typically coach at that age. Carroll Forgot the word "now". Carroll is the same age as Shanny now (as is Belichick). He's actually a month younger I thought you just meant the coaches who are in the league now, not their ages now. Either way, unless you're assuming that two very entrenched and successful coaches will be gone, then their ages are relevant (as in, there will still be a few coaches in the league of around Shanny's age). Relevant. But there's not much history of coaches coaching past 65 in the NFL, let alone multiple guys. Its very conceivable that Belichick could go out with Brady in the next couple years. I don't see Carroll coaching 3 more years either.

  23. Hence my opinion. Obviously, everyone doesn't agree with this. But if Shanahan isn't a great coach anymore. Why hire him? Especially when combined with the fact is best case he's gone in 2-3 years?
