Not when compared to offensive guard, tackle, backup RB, defensive line, safety and corner. Not when faced with a weak FA class and a shortage of draft picks. At this point, there's no harm in letting what we have play for another year. It's not completely known if it was the WRs that led to the issues in the passing game. Maybe it was the offensive line not giving Cutler time. Maybe it was the lack of a run game that allowed teams to play more defenders in coverage. Maybe it was Ron Turner's offensive scheme. Maybe it was Aromashodu not getting a chance before the last 4 weeks, or Hester being played out of position as the #1 WR, or having a talented WR like Iglesias sit the bench. I just think that with your 2 biggest, and arguably most talented WRs, not getting much of a chance and the clear upgrade in offensive coordinators; you have to see if the young guys developed unless you get a true stud for next to nothing. The Bears can't trade for anyone. They aren't going to draft a stud WR with no picks in the top 70. Might as well see what you have in your group of WRs with less than 1 year field experience than use valuable resources on a WR.

I'm a big fan of Antonio Bryant for some reason. I really don't think WR is a priority, but Bryant would be a really good fit for a Martz offense. He's a good WR after the catch and a solid route runner. But any WR brought in would have to mean a trade of a WR. The only one with any trade value, though, is Hester. Trade Hester and I'd be all for Bryant.

I want Hester to return pretty much every punt and kickoff. At the very least, he gives the Bears good field position. But Devin, you were crying two years ago about wanting more money and you said you deserved it because you thought you could be a number one receiver. Well you aren't and won't ever be, but you got your money, and now you want to go back to the old days. Angelo should never have capitulated with Hester or Urlacher. Should the Bears trade for Osi Umenyora if he becomes available? I don't even know that Hester is a better returner than Knox, Manning or Bennett anymore. Manning was a better KO returner in 2008. Both Manning and Knox were better this year. Bennett returned punts much better this year. I know Hester says he wasn't focused on returning kicks, but how hard is it to focus an extra 2-3 times a game to run back a punt? I hope Hester still has it, but they better not throw him out there just because of his history.

Apparently, that makes you crazy to even suggest a thing. Bruno didn't suggest that Jones is as good as one of the best players in the Big Ten. And you completely misinterpreted one line from a full paragraph post. I said Jones is the NEXT Talor Battle. That was the end of the sentence, and end of the thought. Never said that he IS as good. I even explained he's a guy that wasn't highly recruited that will come out of nowhere and could be one of the top 5 scorers in the conference next year.

Wow, if the Bulls could get Ray Allen and JJ Redick for Hinrich, Salmons and Tyrus....I'm pretty sure I'd take that deal. It might actually make the team better THIS year, and would clear up enough room to possible get 2 FAs this summer.

I don't buy the TE thing either. The only TE he had with any talent whatsoever was a young Vernon Davis, who was by all accounts a knucklehead until Singletary set him straight just last year.

Alright, I give up. Is this supposed to mean Jerome James and John Salmons or do you think his name is James Salmons? Jerome James is not involved in the trade rumor that I read.

Yes, this needs to happen. Obviously a Dungy guy, which fits into Lovie's scheme. But also had amazing success with the Colts' DBs, with 3 of the 4 starters (including a former defensive MVP) missing at least 1/2 of the season. Exactly the type of coach the Bears should be hiring, especially if they are going to stick with the same scheme.

Not following the point you are trying to make? Those are both 4 hour drives (give or take 30 mins) depending on where you are in NYC. My point is just that they are very far from NYC, so potential games being played there for family to come watch isn't all that enticing. Guys choose colleges based on where they want to be, and what is the best way to take the next stop, not for the most road games that allow mom and dad to show up. You don't think that factors in....all else being equal?

I really think it would be a bad move for Pitt to enter the Big Ten. In the Big East, they can recruit kids from NYC, DC, and other places out east. Kids from the East coast will have more opportunity to play in front of friends and family, either in person or on TV. A kid from NYC could play basketball in front of family when Pitt plays at home, at St Johns, Syracuse, UConn, or Georgetown, etc without much travel time. But not going to get a lot of family going from NYC to Wisconsin for a game. That could hurt their recruiting. Admittedly though, it hasn't really hurt Penn St's recruiting in football.

Good game. Don't know why IUs best defender, Rivers, was not on McCamey at the end. Dumes was giving up size and can't guard anyone, except for Richardson apparantly at midcourt.

I've been anti-Martz also, but if this is a 1-year job, I don't mind it. I'd rather get a guy that's going to be around for the long-term, but it's hard to say if anyone will be at this point. I hope they talk to the Colts/Saints assistants before making a decision, though...and if Martz is the best choice, so be it.

Doesn't sound like he was involved with Vick, unless you mean his brother: If 2006 was his first year in Minny, after 4 in VT, that would put his arrival there in 2002. http://www.vikings.com/team/coaches/kevin-rogers/98211720-e194-4fbf-ac70-9a7d2bb32aad This guy is in his late 50's and has a very weak resume. Why in the world are they even considering him? Man times moves fast. I thought Vick was done in 2002. That makes his resume even worse. He better not get the job.

I don't think it tells you much about what they think of him. It's standard for teams to let position coaches interview for coordinator positions. That being said, this guy would be a completely uninspiring selection and would tell me even more Lovie is just looking for a guy to do what he wants rather than an actual autonomous OC. I don't know. I just think the fact that GB didn't let the Bears interview their QB coach and Minnesota is so willing raises an eyebrow. Plus, I think there is some disappointment that he couldn't develop Tavarris Jackson (who I actually think is not that bad). But yeah, completely uninspiring as was Hue Jackson.

Did some mad scientist combine Tom Moore and Jim Mora? :D Apparently. I can't tell you how many times I have done that. "Playoffs!" And Tom Moore has no plans to retire. The Colts offensive line coach Howard Mudd is retiring. But Moore has said that he will coach until they don't want him anymore. He almost had to retire last year because of the pension situation, but now that's been settled and Moore should probably be there through at least the end of the Peyton years. That's even better news then.

Not sure what to make of a Kevin Rogers interview. He did coach McNabb at Syracuse and Vick at VT, I believe. But he has only called plays for a poor ND team almost 10 years ago. Add to that the fact that the Vikes allowed him to interview with a division rival who has a franchise QB, that kinda shows me what Minnesota thinks about the guy. I really don't want him. However, there are still some very interesting names that are on the Colts and Saints staff. Obviously, Clyde Christensen for the Colts who we talked about. But there is also Saints OC, Pete Carmichael Jr, who's dad was a Bears assistant under Jauron. And my personal favorite, Joe Lombardi, grandson of Vince. If the Bears can somehow pull off one of these 3 guys as the OC....I would be estatic.

I liked Bates for his upside (can a coach have upside?), though I doubt we would have seen a major improvement to the offense right away. I liked Chudzinski, who was the most experienced of those interviewed.

Shoulda fired Lovie and you wouldn't have to worry about hiring assistants because the new head coach would have brought his own.
