  1. I agree with all of this. I compared him to a handful of players in my post (Guillen, Pence, Cantu, etc). All those guys have had very inconsistent seasons. All of the have had a season with an OPS in the mid 8's and above, all have failed to reach a 700 OPS in a season. If Colvin can find a way to be consistently in the .775-.825 range, then he will be a valuable player to this team. With his speed and age, hopefully he could stay at the higher end of that range. If so, he's a decent everyday OF probably somewhere in the 5-7 spots in the lineup. If he's inconsistent and on the low end, then he's still a decent 4th OF being used similar to the way he is now.
  2. I agree with ScrubMD. It seems like people try to make the argument whenever they can that Colvin is not good. If you are skeptical because of all of the failed Cubs hitting prospects, fine. But it's pretty ignorant of you if that's your reasoning. Sure, Colvin's not an ideal hitter. He probably will never be based on his minor league numbers and numbers so far this year. But he looks to be a solid player similar to guys like Jorge Cantu, Hunter Pence, Delmon Young, and Jose Guillen (to name a few). Granted those are franchise centerpieces, but nobody is expecting that of Colvin. Add in that he appears to be faster than anyone on that list and has proven to be just as strong, if not stronger. There's no reason to believe that Colvin can't be on the upper end of that group's production.
  3. I hope the Bulls get Wade and Bosh, simply so they can field a starting lineup of all 4-letter last names. Rose Wade Deng Bosh Noah
  4. The only people in the organization I would keep 100% are Rothschild and Riggins. And I would probably keep most of the minor league instructors. I don't understand why Jaramillo is getting a free pass either, but I will admit that I'd keep him around for the work he has done with the young players (Colvin, Soto, Castro) and the guys he is familiar with (Soriano, Byrd). What I'd imagine will happen though is that Hendry will be back. Piniella will be back if he wants to be (probably doesn't wan to be back), if not Trammell's the manager and everyone else stays, with maybe a few exceptions. I think the 2011 Cubs will be similar to the 2010 Bears in that they will give this regime one more chance to do something. Like it or not, I think the 3 straight winning seasons bought Hendry some time like the Superbowl did for Lovie and co.
  5. Youk left off in the AL. WOW.
  6. Because I added a closer and dropped a closer which mean the new closer would normally have to go into my lineup mid-week, which I'd imagine is not allowed.
  7. I picked up Jenks for Lidge, I thought I hit "add to list of waiver claims, but I didn't". So, I put Jenks on the bench, CJ WIlson at RP (no more starts this week) and Harden at SP (on DL) so it shouldn't affect any scoring.
  8. I don't see anything wrong with that deal. I think standing alone, it's a fine deal for a 27-year old 7-footer that can shoot the 3 as well as anyone in the league. When comparing it to some of the other deals that have already happened. It may be the most sane deal of the offseason so far.
  9. I don't know why 2006 team gets so much hatred. They were horrible offensively and should have been expected to be. The 2004 team was much more annoying to me.
  10. I'd rather be last than first.
  11. Where is it written that life will be fair ? Game threads are a whole lot like sex. If you can't get it up by midnight, she'll find someone else that can. WOW
  12. It's not even that for me. If you told me the Bears are going to make a Jay Cutler like move and get an affordable young superstar in the making and never pick in the 1st 2 rounds again, I'd be fine with it (generically speaking). But a move for Jackson would be falling into the Cubs trap of spending big money and failing to continue to infuse young talent in to get better. Woah what? Jackson won't turn 28 till after this season is over, so if you trade for him and sign him to a 5 yr deal you get him for ages 27-32. We are talking about a guy who averages over 17 yards per catch. Yea hes never been the 100 catch reciever like some other guys in the league but hes gradually progressed his catches every year in the league from 41 to 59, and to 68 this past year. Hes played on a San Diego offense that hasn't lacked talent and that spreads the ball around pretty good. With this organizations history of developing offensive guys, Id have no problem giving up a 2nd round pick for Jackson. I think you guys are severely underestimating him here. The Bears have not had a problem developing offensive talent. They've had a problem developing QBs. 28 is when Jackson will get the big pay day. 28 is when NFL players typically start the decline. And I agree with everything you said about Jackson. He's great. He's a wonderful player, I would love to have him. But I don't want him that much to trade another early pick (haven't picked in top 70 in 2 years) and to pay him like he is one of those 100 catch WRs.
  13. I think Johnson and Amare will go to the Nets.
  15. Call me crazy, but I'm going to step way out and say that I don't want the Bears to go after Vincent Jackson. I'm thinking it will take at least a 2nd round pick and maybe a 4th or 5th. I'd rather keep the picks, keep the money (he wants more than Brandon Marshall's 4/$47Mil), and hope Aromashodu, Hester, Knox and Iglesias all develop. If not, I think you have a pretty loaded class of WRs, if everyone comes out and a good one could be had in the 2nd. Jackson is a very good WR. But I don't rate him as one of the elite guys, though he is a notch below. He's not a Andre Johnson, Fitz, Moss, Wayne, Marshall, or even Roddy White that will get you 80-90 catches in his sleep, but he will get paid like them. He does give you the big play, but I don't think that's missing in the Bears offense with all their speed. And this pains me to say, with as much as I want a Bears jersey that says "Jackson" on the back and not be a made up one.
  16. Deng as a PF? Does it really make a difference? Is he going to be that overmatched in the East by the likes of Rashard Lewis, 90-year old Garnett, Beasley, and Josh Smith.....the PFs on the other good teams in the East?
  17. If you get Lebron there's still so many places you can go. If the Bulls get Lebron I really wouldn't care if they got Bosh or Amare or whatever. I'd settle for 2 less than max FAs that are good role players. I'd take: PG- Rose SG- Morrow SF- James PF- Deng C- Noah Bench- Gibson, Channing Frye, Tony Allen.. for example
  18. Can't be the Cobs, they have no O. :good: The Super or Mega Loser will be fine, then. You do know that there's an "O" in there too, right?
  19. And he played like 15 years and was considered a model NFL citizen while he was killing people on the side. Of course, if you are a stripper-beating, bouncer fighting, rapist then you are probably going to get caught eventually anyway.....but be smart enough to do your dirt under the cover of integrity.
  20. If I'm an NFL player. I find two maybe 3 bars/clubs/strip clubs in town, and I go to them exclusively. I make cool w/ the owners, bouncers, and bartenders. I buy the bar out a couple times a month. I tip big. That way when I feel the urge to slap a stripper, punch a bouncer, or rape a girl in the bathroom I can do so and have acquintances to back up whatever story I tell police if I get caught.
  21. Yeah, if anything Week 1 should be closer to the Week 17, 2009 Lions than it will be to the Week 17, 2010 Lions. They still have the same coaching staff, I believe. So, it's not going to be a scheme change to give them a boost ala Green Bay in the opener last year. I've gone back and forth all offseason about this team. On one hand, Martz has shown he is good for adding 4-6 points to an offense and a healthy Urlacher, Pisa, the addition of Peppers and development of Bowman and Wright could lead to a much improved team. On the other hand, the offensive lineman I have the most confidence in played mediocrely at RT for 3/4 of the season, the young skilled players are largely unproven, and there are some key players on D that are at or approaching 30. The Bears could be anywhere from 5-11 to 11-5, reasonably speaking.
  22. Actually, yes I do think that. Because, especially if Kobe gets one more ring, every mention of Kobe's greatness is going to compare him to Jordan. And people are going to say that Jordan did it without a true big man in the middle. Yeah, cause Scottie Pippen was dog [expletive] Pippen wasn't a big man. Who cares? Why do Kobe's rings mean nothing because he had a really good big man, but Jordan's are immaculate because his 2nd best player was a SF? Oh right, cause IT'S MICHAEL!!! I agree that it doesn't matter if the 2nd best player was 7' tall or 6'1" if that player is as good as Pippen. But Kobe didn't have a really good big man. A really good big man had Kobe. Kobe was a clear 2nd fiddle. While still a very good player, he was not as good as Shaq when he won his first 3 titles. Same thing can be said about Pippen in all 6 Bulls title years.
  23. No, if Kobe wins 1 more, people are going to say, "Kobe and Jordan both have 6 rings, but Jordan carried his team to all 6, while Kobe had Shaq for 3." Kobe has 5 rings, but he was Scottie Pippen for the first three titles (very good player, but 2nd best player on his team) and has been Jordan for the last 2.
  24. Why would the Indians take on any money when they could just let those 3 walk after the year and be free of the money? The problem with trading Zambrano isn't that he is a bad teammate with anger issues. The problem is that he is a bad teammate with anger issues who sucks at pitching. You want an example of what you get for bad teammates with anger issues who suck at what they get paid to do.....look at the Milton Bradley trade. You don't get to trade a bad player AND get another team to pay him for 2 years after you trade him unless you get to pay for their bad player for a similar amount of time and money.
