  1. I expect the Bears to bring in a cheap veteran backup and then draft a guy this year. Probably not until very late in the draft, but teams have shown they can get by a couple games at a time while developing a QB.
  2. Pesky ass team. Have a couple tiny RBs in Graham and Shell. Graham is the workhorse. Shell is a speedy freshman. They will probably run the combo 40 times. Qb took a decent step forward this year and isnt makin as many mistakes. Has a couple big Wrs, a couple fast ones. The OL is ok but young. Defensively I don't know much about. No nfl prospects that dide of the ball. I think it's going to be a good matchup. Both teams, at least to me, appear to be a touch better than their records suggest. Pitt lost by one point to Syracuse, lost in 3OT to ND, and played a damn good game against Louisville it looks like. Whereas Ole Miss lost by 3 to A&M, 6 to LSU, and 1 to Vandy. Ole Miss was within 10 points of being 9-3 and Pitt was within 14 of doing the same. Our big weapon is WR Donte Moncrief. In his last 2 games against LSU and Miss St. he put up 334 yds and 5 TD's. I think it's pretty much going to be a home game for the Rebels though, as the bowl has already sold 54,000 tix and I doubt many of those are Pitt fans. Pitt travels pretty well, but yeah, I doubt they will travel very well for a 6-6 team. I think if Chryst had another year with this exact same team, he'd have them as a 9 win team. Not that they are losing a ton, but they do lose their top QB, RB, WR, OL on offense. The defense is pretty young and was decent this year.
  3. If Marco plays in the majors, I think it will be at SS. I won't go as far as to say he'll make Castro move to 3B (and potentially Baez to the OF), but Marco's bat likely won't play well anywhere else but middle IF. And he's far too good defensively at SS to waste some of his ability at 2B.

  5. And then made Thomas a top 5 wr this year after a lost year of development. Id love him with a realky athletic TE and Jeffery. Not to mention a better pass catching Rb than McGahee. I think there's only one man responsible for making Thomas a top 5 WR, and his name is not McCoy. FWIW, Manning gives McCoy plenty of credit for their success in Denver. Of course he does. I wouldn't expect him to say otherwise. And I'm not saying McCoy isn't a good offensive mind, or that he didn't have any influence on the success of the Broncos' offense this year. But it was clearly Manning's show, and he deserves the bulk of the credit for this year's performance of their top players. I think the best piece of evidence for McCoy is is his work with Orton when he threw for 4,000+ yards. Manning is not a God. He still needs coached. And even if he doesn't, everyone else on the offense does. And this wasnt Manning's offense from the Colts. He had to learn a new system too. The common denominator between Orton, Tebow and Manning is McCoy. 3 completely different levels of talent. 3 successful offenses.

  7. I was listening this morning too. I got the feeling that if Myers was asked to choose between Holmgren and one of the up-and-comers like McCoy or Clements, he would have went with an up-and-comer. I agree with him that I would prefer Holmgren over John Gruden though. Personally, I worry that Holmgren cannot keep up with a head coaching gig any more. I would pass. People do realize that Clements is 58, right? Holmgren is only a few years older. I'm thinking McCoy is the better choice. Thats what I am thinking too. Leaning McCoy now.
  8. FWIW, Saints fans weren't all too happy with Carmichael this season. Main reasons cited have been he's TOO pass heavy 65-35 pass/run ratio. Not using Sproles enough. Too many sacks allowed because of predictable play calling.
  9. Forgot about him. Hadn't really heard his name much this offseason. Did some last year. People wondered how much was him and how much was Sean Payton, but Payton wasn't around this year and they were still a pretty good offense. And Doug Marrone (the OC before him) has gone on to develop a pretty good QB at Syracuse in Ryan Nassib.
  10. If I had to guess: Arizona- Andy Reid Cleveland- Chip Kelly Buffalo- Lovie Smith Philadelphia- Greg Roman Chicago- Mike McCoy Kansas City- Kyle Shanahan? - really not sure what they're going to do if not Reid. San Diego- Bruce Arians
  11. I have no idea how this trade would possibly work. But man, if the Cubs can pull off Stanton, this would be a very fun season.
  12. Yeah, I've heard it's a longshot. I'd guess he'd be interesting. Much rather have the OCs from GB, Denver, or Houston. But he's the only guy with any head coaching experience of those 4, though it's only 1 year. And you have to admire what he was able to do with Penn St's team. He does fit the requirement of being from an elite offensive background with his experience as OC/QB coach in New England.
  13. Didn't see this mentioned in this thread but Clements was given permission to interview with the Bears. Not sure when though.
  14. Dennison is interesting. The Texans offense is pretty solid. They developed a very good OL without a ton of top picks there. They have a good all around RB and they really get the most out of the TE position.
  15. Walter update has Bears taking Ogletree and Fluker in the first 2 rounds. One of a few ideal scenarios IMO. Love Fluker at OG.
  16. Yes. It's partly on him. He got a lot more say so in personnel moves after getting to the Super Bowl in 2006. Angelo did a terrible job, but failed picks on the defensive side of the ball have Lovie's fingerprints all over them. They were all "his type" of players that fit in his defensive scheme. Often times, they picked these players over offensive players (aka linemen). He also is probably mostly responsible for bringing in failed players like Archuleta, Gaines Adams, Hester on offense. But at the same time, you have to give him credit for guys like Jennings, Melton, Idonije, etc. And yet he's a Cutler fluke injury and a tiebreaker away from having 3 straight 10 win seasons and 3 straight years in the playoffs. Ultimately though, it came down to him not being able to get the offensive coordinator hire right. Best quote I read was, "Lovie hired 4 OCs in 9 years, he wasn't going to get a chance to hire a 5th". 4 OCs = 4 failures. None of them have been (or will be in Tice's case) NFL offensive coordinators after leaving the Bears.
  17. Nope. Zach Ertz is a beast. Looks considerably faster than Eifert.
  18. Interesting. His first decision may have to be to cut Kolb though. He makes a ton of money and isn't very good. I don't think they can go into the season with Kolb at QB and just hope Reid makes a huge difference. If SF is willing to deal within the division, I think this is where Alex Smith goes. Though with Reid, they could draft a QB too.
  19. They lost games to the 2 teams in the NC game, an undefeated team that could have been there if eligible and the team that was 1 play away from the NC game. As u said 3 of 4 were really close. Got a shot at a big year next season.
  20. Agreed, no interest in them. It really depends on who comes with him. If a ST coach brings in the Saints QB coach for OC and a good DC, I'm game. Thanks probably pretty unlikely though.
  21. He took Kyle Orton and make him a near 4000 yard passer. Then he changed the offense completely to fit Tebows mess. Consistent running game for all his teams. I think his best attribute is being to use his players to best fit their strengths. I mean...I guess. There was nothing really impressive about that offense with Tebow. And this year the Broncos have Peyton Manning, so, yea. The point is though he made it work. Everyone knew they were running with Tebow and they still led the league in rushing...and when they needed to throw late Tebow was able to move the ball in the air. And Peyton is not the OC. He's not making up the playbook. And McCoy gets credit for developing Thomas and Decker for them being able to contribute with Manning after basically a non developmental season last year.

  23. Reading twitter for recaps. - Looks like TE and OL will be huge priorities. I like that it was almost explicitly stated instead of the whole "we like the guys we have" stuff. Called Kellen out on his terribleness. - He admits 3-4 in unlikely due to personnel. - Definitely sounds like he's going offensive with this hire. Talks about using Forte and Bennett more (no mention of using Hester more) and the middle of the field specifically.
