  2. I'd pay Choo 6/100. Reluctantly, but I'd do it. I think he's the most worth those contract terms laid out and I think he's the most likely to get what he's asking for. I think to ever get a top FA, you have to go a year or two more than they are probably worth. In the Cubs situation, they should have very cheap production from several positions to make paying 36 year old Choo less of a hinderance. Love Cano but not sure what the front office would reasonably pay him. Dont think they'd even go 200Mil.
  3. Me either. I think stafford is going to have a great day. Bears are 9-1 in their last 10 games against the Lions, and 7-1 with Stafford as the starting QB. And the "1" was in the first MNF game in Detroit in 10+ years. Of course, it was also against the only "good" Lions team in the last 10 years, which this team appears to be the 2nd.
  4. Yeah probably will win a lot of arguments.
  5. Friend of mine was playing with another friend's samurai sword and started to drop the very expensive sword si his first reaction was to catch it before it hit the ground and chipped. He managed to catch it....by the blade and sliced his hand halfway thru. Reaction.
  6. One interesting thing in that article is Trestman basically saying he was conservative so they didn't help the Steelers get back into the game. That says a lot about his faith in the offense to get it going and in Cutler to be able to pick up the production again like the lull never happened.
  7. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000249985/article/power-rankings-week-4-bears-saints-ascend-49ers-plummet Wright and Conte have started 24 games together. Bears have 36 INTs and 12 of those returned for TDs. 1.5 Ints per game and a TD return every other game is crazy.....especially when you have a team that also forces fumbles at a strong clip. If Hester gets it going again (like he showed in week 2), this team is going to be hard to beat.
  8. Completion% is the main stat I wanted to see greatly increased. It's not that it's the end-all, be-all stat, but a higher number likely means more open receivers (aka better offense designed to get guys open), less pressure (aka more time to hit open receivers), and obviously increased production comes with that. Well I should admit that Cutler's Yards Per Pass Attempt is currently at the 2nd lowest of his career (only 2009 was worse, which was his worst year as a pro imo). But I think that's by design for now. Quick drops, a focus on moving the chains, less downfield action unless the situation calls for it. It's resulted in a ton of high percentage, lower yardage throws. And for the most part its worked. Yeah, the offense hasn't opened up yet at all. There have only been a few shots taken deep. Marshall TD. Harrison Smith INT. Marshall big gain last night. And maybe 2-3 more. You're not even really seeing a bunch of 15-25 yard throws, until the Bears get on the edge of the redzone. Of course, they've played some great pass rush teams so far that have dictated they get the ball out quickly. I think you could really see the offense open it up vs. New Orleans and definitely after the bye week.
  9. Reporters talk to a QB, they expect a guy that's going to provide insight into the offense, be an outward leader for everyone in the lockeroom, and be overly charismatic. Reporters talk to a LB with a bald head and barbed wire tattoo, the expectations are a lot lower.
  10. The highlight montage was highlighted by a Tony Gonzalez TD celebration (dunk over the goalpost) and the Hispanics were all Dallas Cowboys fans.

  12. I don't know that I've ever seen a team have as many FAs as the Bears have this offseason. 26 of the 53 man roster are not under contract for next year. Goes to 27 if you figure Peppers gets cut. Also, no reason to double Michael Bush's salary to 6.45M.....so 28. Seven offensive starters are under contract (8 assuming Cutler is back). Only 3 on D will be back, if you assume Peppers is cut. The only DBs under contract for next year are Conte, Frey and CJ Wilson. Podlesh is the only specialist under contract. No-brainers to bring back: Cutler, Gould, Mannelly (if he doesn't retire). I'd definitely look to bring back: Tillman, Slauson, Collins (assuming he's decent the rest of the year) I'd probably bring back: Wright, Wootton, James and Joe Anderson. That means replacing Garza, Peppers, DJ Williams, Jennings, Fiametta, and Melton as starters, and some random depth (Rosario, Walters, Steltz, Costanzo).
  13. Toeina is not a 3-tech. I'd imagine Okoye would get the first call because he is more of an upfield pass rusher than Toeina. Zach Minter is going to have to be active for the first time in his career next week at least. Hope he takes advantage of it.
  14. I feel like the defense played well. Scored 14. 5 turnovers forced. But they gave up 80 yards rushing to a team that had 75 on the year. And 406 passing yards allowed.
  15. Briggs legit stripped that. Went in with the left, got it with the right.
  16. Called that TD. Said in the 3rd quarter to my Steelers fan buddy that we had another 6 coming on D.
  17. Can't move the pocket if u don't know where the blitz is coming from. Can run right into it.
  18. Ok the blitz needs to be canned now.
  19. Playcalling is boring right now. Which doesn't matter if they can't block.
  20. Blitzing the blitzers!
  21. 3rd times the charm.....as were the first two.
  22. Dungy was lucky enough to inherit Peyton Manning. He never won anything in Tampa. And if you give him credit for Gruden's ring, that was all on the defense. And that was when defense still won championships (and when Lovie was hired by the Bears, which I pointed out). Cowher also fits into, "won while defense could still win". Tomlin has an argument with the QB continuity. But Coughlin's rings have come with the same OC along with the same QB, and those rings were 5 years apart, which is longevity for an NFL OC.
  23. My friend, a Pitt fan, texted me, "is this Big East football?"
  24. Yeah, in this day and age, it's really not much upside in hiring a heavy defensive coach. When Lovie was hired, it was in vogue to do so though. But the only way to have sustained offensive success with a defensive coach is if that coach happens to be buddies with a big time offensive mind, and that mind has to be wise enough to surround himself with like-minded offensive coaching talent. Because that OC will likely get an HC job somewhere if he's successful, and his QB coach has to be ready to take over as OC when that happens. Then that cycle has to continue, which literally never happens. Actually, I guess it has happened in New England. But with an offensive head coach, you can change OCs every year and not skip a beat if your HC is involved heavily in the offense. Saints OC doesn't matter. They've lost a few under Payton and haven't missed a beat. It's really what every team should strive for.
