  1. Is WGN saying the same thing? ESPN? If not, saying something could happen 4-5 days from now is really saying nothing. And the Score is already famous for breaking stories that go nowhere. I'm starting to wonder if the Score update from yesterday was BS. I believe all they are doing is taking Miles article on Ramirez from yesterday and re-stating his proposed figures as fact.
  2. I'd rather hold Murton and use him as a centerpiece (along with a couple of pitching prospects) to acquire Miguel Cabrera instead.
  3. It's posted over on ESPN.com now. There isn't any mention of a world wide draft in the article.
  4. It appears that it is according to this snippet from the Associated Press regarding the new labor deal. I imagine that the "some free agents" is in regards to FA's that are classifed as Type A, B, or C FA's, but the report from the AP is a bit vague. The Cubs better sign Aramis to a new deal now, because it appears now that they won't even get draft picks if he leaves. This is also disapointing now, because it appears they won't even get compensation for Pierre either, who also will probably be testing the FA waters.
  5. Is that the vibe that your sources are telling you, hoops?
  6. Yeah, I'm starting to see what you mean. Looking at Soriano's OPS the past couple of years, he went .807, .821, and finally .911 this season. His K's were sharply up this year too which I find interesting. I'm starting to doubt what player we would get, the player from two & three years ago or this year's version.
  7. Along your line of thinking, considering what the Mets gave Beltran two years ago, that doesn't seem too unreasonable.
  8. Lidle dead confirmed by 670 That's awful. Another Yankee going down in a plane crash (Munson).
  9. Certainly, it may come down to money (doesn't it always?) but I doubt that Graffanino goes to the Cubs. My guess, and it's just a guess, is that he tries very hard to get to BAL, PHL or NYM or some other Eastern team to stay close to his family. Tony has two young boys (one of whom plays in the same little league as my son), and I know that last year he tried to hook on with a team in the East to stay closer to his family. I imagine that will be his same game plan this offseason.
  10. If he retires due to injury, wouldn't insurance pick up most of his 07' salary? If so, I imagine his salary would count against 07' payroll, but I bet the Cubs would have more to spend since insurance would be picking up most of the tab.
  11. Slow gamethread, but can anybody watching report what Miller's velocity is on his heater today?
  12. Mark Prior. Who's he?
  13. Is Mateo ok? Yahoo has Coates PH for him bottom 3 ??
  14. With KC & TB possibly ahead of us (at # 1, & # 2), that could be a distinct possibility.
  15. Scott Moore with his 1st (of hopefully many more) major league hit (2B).
  16. With the way they are playing right now.......they just might have an outside shot at 100 losses. That would be a well deserved achievement for this bunch.
  17. the cubs need offense imo. they have plenty of good young pitching already. Exactly why they should trade Pierre. Since this year is shot, how about Rowand and a significant prospect?
  18. As long as Isiah Thomas keeps running the Knicks...
  19. Hey Hoops !....Nah...unless we can play the Cards another 60 times that seems a bit remote.
  20. Don't worry, unless the Cubs were to miraculously finish the season on a tear, their 1st round pick should be protected. As long as they finish with one of the worst 15 records, they'll get to keep their 1st rounder regardless of how many FA's they sign this offseason.
  21. Wow, that would be quite a salary for a bench player wouldn't you think? Then again, we are paying Neifi $2.5MM a season, nevermind. Believe it or not, if Walker leaves as a "B", the Cubs have an outside shot at landing a 1st rounder if the team that signs him is drafting anywhere from 16-30 in the 1st round and doesn't sign any other higher rated FA's than Walker.
  22. Don't know the answer for certain, but it would seem to make sense that the Cubs would be able to offer arbitration if he became a free agent, just like any other team losing a potential FA.
