  1. I'm surprised that the Alex Cintron move hasn't resulted in another 10 pages on this thread yet. I sure hope that it's the precusor to the looooonnnnnnngggg awaited Brian Roberts deal.
  2. I was at Wrigleyville Sports yesterday buying my son his first official Cubs jersey (he went with a Soriano home btw) and they had plenty of Fukudome Cubs t-shirts in stock, along with plenty of home and away jerseys.
  3. One of the things I always appreciated about Sammy was that he never wanted to take the day off, unlike many ballplayers who were get 1-2 games off every few weeks. That doesn't excuse him from leaving the team that day, but the good that he did for this franchise FAR outweighs his early departure from a meaningless game.
  4. Yeah, the Mets performed so well last season with all of their talent. All one has to do is look at the old Seattle teams to realize that one player doesn't guarantee any team a World Series birth. If having A-Rod, Junior and Randy Johnson didn't ensure a league championship, nothing will.
  5. When 2 of those starters are highly regarded, one being one of the highest regarded prospects in baseball last season, it makes sense. Again, I'm not saying that they can even compete in the Central, I am only saying that they can compete with the Cubs, currently a mediocre team playing in the worst division in the worst league in baseball.. I'd take the Cubs rotation in a heartbeat....Kenny Williams has to hope that all three of his very questionable back end pitchers come through, because the minors are now bare and the bullpen is still on the weak side. If you can call a division champ with 5 all-star caliber players mediocre, then there are quite a few truly bad teams in baseball.
  6. ...Or what about my Slurpie after the game to sober up before heading home?
  7. Wow...the worst part would be that everyone would call KW a genius again...
  8. I don't know how 3 starters with 5+ ERAs can be described as anything but bad. Plus, And despite spending $10M on two middle-relievers, the bullpen (besides Jenks) still sucks. Add in the AL Central and the Sox will be battling for 3rd place.
  9. Just bring up that the Cubs won the World Series in 1908...both championships are in the past.
  10. K-Dub definitely spending the cash to buy a bullpen....MLBTradeRumors reports it to be a 2 year, $11M deal. That's two $5M+ relievers...ouch! Now all they need are two more starting pitchers and they might be able to compete in the AL Central.
  11. I agree on the road unis...They've been beyond bland for years. I think retro grey vests with blue shirts underneath would look sharp.
  12. Great news! WTG Jimbo.....Finally a high OBP guy at the top of our lineup. Boy, the K-Fuk jerseys are going to be replacing Wiis as the hot Christmas gift now...
  13. Since when did Greene become Cal Ripken? That's way to much to give up for a guy who hasn't lived up to expectations.
  14. There's been talk that the Cubs need a true #2 starter next year. The only problem is that there aren't any FAs that fit that bill, and teams don't necessarily trade them if they've got 'em. Now, I'm not saying that Mark Prior will regain everything that made him a dominant starter, but he's our best opportunity at significantly boosting the starting rotation. The real question is whether the Cubs will gamble the $3.5M to resign him?
  15. We already have the next Riviera...his name is Carlos Marmol.
  16. I'm not sure how a goat could possibly curse a team....but Bartman was real...
  17. Let's also remember that Hill is a young pitcher starting his first playoff game....Maybe having a veteran presence behind the plate won't be such a bad thing.
  18. That's the only emotion the Cubs has shown in this series. At least Lilly looks like he cares, unlike our free-swinging trio of all-star hitters. Nothing epitomizes this series than Doug Davis' bunt single that drove in a run. We knew he was going to bunt, yet Wuertz throws a pitch right down the middle, Soto starts to come out to field the only (even with the runner on 3rd) and then can't recover in time to make the play, and D-lee was late reacting to the bunt while Wuertz stood flat-footed on the field. Brutal...appears like we were simply going through the motions.
  19. Easy....Stop swinging for the fences on every pitch. What was so disappointing was to see the Cubs hitters with seemingly no approach or strategy at the plate while the D-Backs rooks showing poise and confidence. And then there's Augie.....D'oh!
  20. I was just talking about this a few days ago....why hasn't Prior been more active and visable with the team this year? is there a policy that players can't be in the dugout when they're on the DL? I can recall only seeing Prior at a game once this whole season.
  21. How many flippin balls can the Cubs hit deep on the track only to see everything the DBacks hit fall in? That's now 3 track shots in less than 2 innings.
  22. Tip your hat to Webb, but we plenty the ball hard last night...the problem was that it was it was always at a DBack. A-Ram hit two on the track and we have a few line drives to the outfield. I expect us to bounce back tonight.
  23. Wow, this board is more pathetic than normal with the doom and gloom. The reality is we went up against a Cy Young caliber pitcher tonight and we weren't able to take advantage of our limited scoring chances. We hit some balls awfully hard; they just didn't fall in. The D-Backs didn't exactly scare me offensively. I expect Lilly to pitch a strong outing tomorrow and the Cubs to come back with a big W... Let's GO CUBS!
  24. Is WGN doing the game on radio? If so, that's what I'll be listening too (even if it mean hearing Ron's grones every once in a while). I was thoroughly unimpressed with whoever was doing the TBS game last night...absolutely no energy from what should have been a great game to call.
