  1. Why is a rundown called a "pickle"?
  2. Oh the Old Style endorsements they could get :P
  3. PLUS I HEARD HE WON'T TURN OFF HIS CAP LOCK!!
  4. The same Benitez who has 15 IP this year? Yes, the same one. Like I said, you do not know how it would've turned out if he was a Cub. If you say that, then someone can just as easily say "you do not know how it would've turned out if Wood, Prior, and Nomar wouldn't have gotten hurt". Considering that all 3 spent significant time on the DL the previous year, you can assume it's a possibility. As it was a pretty good possibility that Drew was going to get hurt also.
  5. I agree you have no way of knowing if potential free agent signees are going to end up injured just as you have no way of knowing guys you already have on the team are going to be injured.
  6. Now that's just ridiculous. Walker is more than capable of hitting leadoff. And he's more than capable of reaching home with less than 3 hits after him. That's just absurd talk that completely belittles the rest of your message. I'm not impressed with Furcal because he's not very good. He's fine, but he's no $8 million difference maker. He's a career .346 OBP player, and that's acceptable, but hardly impressive. He's also got a drinking problem, that, unlike Kyle Farnsworth, has actually gotten him in serious legal trouble. If Furcal is your primary offensive improvement in the offseason, you will still be severaly lacking on offense. The OF must be addressed. The Cubs have options at SS, but they don't have anything for the OF. Speaking of ridiculous. I would love to hear your explantion on why Furcal is "not very good". I'm also wondering how you know Furcal has a drinking problem. And isn't the point of a leadoff man to not only get on base, but also get himself into scoring position? In some circles getting into legal trouble as a result of your alcohol comsupmption is by definition " a drinking problem". I don't think anyone is saying Furcal isn't a decent player - the question is, is he the best player and is shortstop the position to spend 8-10 million dollars on.
  7. He does play the best RF ever according to Sutcliffe. Burnitz has to be used right to be effective and Baker well..... I think Brenly said he played the best right field in Wrigley he's seen in years. But the guy before Burnie.......oh well forget it.
  8. I agree that it probably is the nature of the beast but with a 100 mil payroll we should have the advantage over all but a couple of teams in solving the problems.
  9. My plan B? Well it seems that many teams out there competing for a playoff birth, don't have Offensive juggernauts at the Catching position. Cubs can acquire a Catcher through a trade that is more of a happy medium they would be fine at that position. They need a leader at Catcher everyday, and Barrett CLEARLY isn't that type. I would argue that the majority of the last 10 world champions have had pretty decent offensive catchers. 2004 Varitek 2003 Pudge 2002 Molina 2001 Miller 2000 Posada 1999 Posada 1998 Posada 1997 Johnson 1996 Girardi 1995 Lopez
  10. Amen brother!
  11. Sound like a couple of differing viewpoints to me.
  12. Pitching we throw 3.84/PA (Tied for highest in ML) Batting we see 3.61/PA (2nd worst in ML) Maybe I'm just dumb but isn't the approach that get's us ^^^^^^^ those results the root of our evil?
  13. I'm just sitting here wondering is their anyway or does anybody know to find out how many pitches we have seen as an offensive team vs. how many pitches our pitchers have thrown?? While I suspect their would be a huge differential it would be interesting to know.
  14. The only thing that bothered me about that is I have him on 2 fantasy teams.
  15. THE FARNS!! Came in in the ninth tonight with a 6-2 lead - got a guy on first - of course they are not holding him with a 4 run lead. First chance he gets Farns fires one over to first - it rolls almost to the right field wall  John Miller said something to the effect of " He is here physically but not mentally"
  16. Why do they put Fuentes in for the 3rd straight day and with a 4 run lead?
  17. Burnie......dude knows the park man
  18. It aint pretty, but its better than an empty bottle... Just barely but I guess we were all 16 once!
  19. I realize that being tied with the Brewers this late in the season can leave a taste in your mouth a lot like a flat, warm Pabst Blue Ribbon, but at this point, I'll take every Houston loss I can get, thank you very much... Ooohhh man......I've had flat warm PBR :P
  20. If everything finishes as it is now does that make the Cubs 5 games out? If things fall right tommorow they could be within 4? Clemens hasn't got much out of his offense lately........so sad.
  21. Miller with the 2 run double!! 4-2 Brewcrew.
  22. Bases juiced for Damian Miller!!
