  1. right now it sounds like they are waiting on Angelos to approve a deal. None of the names are 100% but Levine was quoted as saying Cedeno was part of it, along with a pitcher and perhaps an OF.
  2. Unless we are moving one of Howry, Marmol or Wuertz, I dont understand why we would want Lahey. He'd be nothing more then a throw-in in a trade and that team would still have to keep him on the big league roster. They could have just picked him themselves if they wanted him that bad. Then asked the Cubs for some other prospect. I think I am going to stop trying to understand anything we do at this point.
  3. He's a good talent, but old. He stayed in school at Miami (of all places) to get his aeronautical engineering degree. He's actually a good candidate to stay on the DL for most of the year as he blew out his knee. Miami is a pretty good academic school... the most visible part of the university, the football team, really brings its reputation down. But it's definitely ahead of UF and FSU academically. My high school comes in just ahead of FSU academically. FSU has academics? Who knew..
  4. Prior, Pie and Cedeno is too much. It sounds like Cedeno is in the Roberts package anyway, and that deal is probably all but done except for Angelos approving the deal. Whoa, whoa. It is? Any word on who is going to go Baltimore's way? Levine was quoted as saying He was certain Cedeno was in the deal, but that was the only name he knew for sure. The most popular theory seems to be Marshall/Gallagher, Cedeno and Murton. I'm just peicing together everything I thought I read so if I missed something someone feel free to correct me.
  5. More than anything, it was just a suggestion by Meph. I'd probably do it because I happen to agree that Greene could be a monster if you let him out of Petco. I agree Greene would be have the potential to be much better outside of Petco. I'm just wondering if you make this trade if for some reason we don't sign Fukudome. As of right now, Pie is our only legit CF (defensively). If we sign Fukudome, trade for Green and Roberts then put Derosa in RF that would be nice. A lot depends on signing someone to play CF capably though. I'm guessing it would likely cost the Cubs Pie and Cedeno, unless the Padres found Theriot more to their liking. They are really hurting for top of order type hitters (defined as what GM's view as top of the order type hitters, mind you). Probably have to give up a pitcher as well. The Padres have always been pretty high on Greene and they aren't just going to give him away. We know the Padres like Prior. If I give up Prior, Pie and Cedeno then I probably ask for a prospect as well. Perhaps not a top talent but that's an awful lot to give up for Greene, althought I might do it. I wonder if they would Take Prior, Cedeno and someone else for Greene. Maybe Epatt or Kroeger?

  7. Well he has to work out better than the tub of goo Wells they had before. Vernon is a tub of goo? J/k, I am sure you meant Boomer.
  8. Technically I'd guess so, but I'd doubt we've got room on the 25 man to hide two guys all year long. I was just wondering because of the quote earlier about the Cubs looking for arms, arms and more arms. I wouldn't think we could hide anyone on the 25 man either and I don't get Lahey at all. Seems like he doesn't have near the upside some of the others out there had.
  9. You found a picture of hendry and MacPhail at lunch? That's nice.
  10. Bedard, Tejada, Markakis. If they talked about any of those 3, then good. Otherwise I hope Jim was just hungry like always. Roberts wouldn't be a bad guy to pick up. I wouldn't mind Roberts either, I just prefer to keep Derosa at 2b

  12. Dusty is gonna have competition for those guys? Thats crazy. I figured they were Cincy bound for sure.
  13. If we could pull this off without getting rid of Murton it would work pretty good I think. Some sort of a platoon between the 2 would probably put of good numbers.
  14. I read that too, but I didn't want to post in on here and get blamed for starting a 93 page thread. I usually dont hear about those rumors until 40 + pages in so I had to wonder if it was buried in another thread.
  15. I think some of this about Fukudome has already been posted but I had not read any rumors about us trying to deal for Dunn? Did I miss something or is the writer just guessing? This was on Pro Sports Daily from the New York Post "The Cubs have prioritized finding a lefty-hitting right fielder. The free-agent market is not appealing to them (Geoff Jenkins and Brad Wilkerson) and their attempts to land Cincinnati's Adam Dunn in a deal fizzled. So they are focused on Japanese free agent Kosuke Fukudome, who has not even said officially he will come to the States. Chicago considers Fukudome a five-tool asset capable of playing any outfield position. There have been comparisons to Hideki Matsui, but the Cubs feel Fukudome has less power than Matsui, but is a superior runner and thrower. If the Cubs fail on Fukudome, they could become interested in Johnny Damon, though Damon certainly does not have the arm to play right field."
  16. Didnt see this anywhere else. Tigers acquired RHP Denny Bautista from the Rockies for RHP Jose Capellan. It's on Rotoworld
  17. It seems to me Hendry has it in his head to have DeRosa play all over the place. This means he'll be platooning w/ Teahen in RF if that is where he goes. It does leave second still open though. Unless he pulls a rabbit out of his hat and gets Roberts, I don't see him finding someone else to play 2B now that Matsui is off the market. I'd bet DeRosa is the everyday 2B next year. There is still the rumor abour Orlando Hudson being someone we are interested in.
  18. That sounds like a pretty good description, although he may be better defensively as I think he came up as a 3B and played a few games in CF last year as well as RF. Not that'll happen. Teahen's very mobile for his size. He might be mobile enough to play 2B non-Jeterian to the point where his bat more than makes up for his defensive miscues, in a Jeff Kent lite sort of way. Aha, so Hendry is still looking at 2B. now it makes sense.
  19. did you consider jones a starter or 4th outfielder/platoon player? Myself, if Jones would have been kept, I would have used Pie in center and Murton in left with Jacque spelling the two. Preferably upgrading at short, but either way it's time to let Pie figure it out or deal him and move on. Murton should be the rightfielder anyway. Granted, I am sure Hendry isnt thinking this way, but by that scenario we are replacing a 4th outfielder/platoon player. The only problem will be what they replace him with production/cost wise.
  20. I agree Hendry is insane, but I don't really mind this. It seems like it cleared salary and if that is used to bring a quality player in then it worked out. Jones and Ohman were role players but both seemed to like throwing the ball in the dirt, well short of the target. Plus by inquiring Infante for a couple weeks it gave us more to discuss and now by getting rid of him it gives us even more to talk about. Hard to find a bright side with Hendry moves, but well nevermind, there's not much of a brightside with him.
  21. undoubtedly we will force a game five, in which lilly will pitch 8 innings, give up 1 er and leave it up to dempster to close it out. We will be up 3-1 and Dempster will give up a 3 run bomb to Micah Owings (pinch hitting) and we will all be very mad, yet sad
  22. I thought during the top of the 7th that they said Z was going to pulled because of heat exhaustion? Were they talking about somebody else or did I not hear right?
  23. WGN should cover this all night. Call it reality TV.. Cubs style. I can't believe this day. Started up crappy and ended up one of the best days in forever. My son got to sit here and watch the celebration with me. Just freaking awesome!!!
