  1. Its being reported by one of the insiders on OH that Angelos has signed off and the deal is very close.. I don't know all the insiders over there but they seem to believe him. Take it for what it is worth.
  2. Not to get off the whole Pie sucks and everything thread, but does anyone think that we could work a 3 way with seattle and baltimore, somehow ending up with Adam Jones and Bedard. Send Hill to Seattle, Pie to Baltimore and other prospects as needed? Others here know more about this stuff, so just out there for thought.
  3. It would be a gamble, but Wood has said in the past that he would like to start. . Wood has said repeatedly that he is a reliever now, and he will be a reliever at least for the immediate future. I see zero chance of him moving to the rotation until, at the very least, he's gone several months of showing he can put up significant innings without being hurt. I know recently he has said he was a reliever, but I thought late in the year or right after it ended there was mention of him talking about wanting to start. I'd search but it's really not all the important to me as I don't think he should start until at least '09. That's if he is able to pitch all of '08 without any troubles. I think Wood is well suited for the closer role.
  4. It would be a gamble, but Wood has said in the past that he would like to start. I haven't heard anything recently about it. In fact, the last quote I heard, I'm not sure if it was Lou or Hendry that said Wood be in the hunt for the closers job in spring training. If they get Nathan, who knows what they are thinking.
  5. What player do you think 2 of those guys could get the Cubs that could help the team get better? I'm not talking about trading just pitchers, but I think the guys that have been mentioned (Burnett, Greinke, Blanton) can all be had for any combination of Gallagher, Marshall, Hart, Veal, Holliman, Patterson, Murton, Cedeno, Petrick, etc.....all of whom are probably ML ready, but have not significant place on the Cubs roster. I see as those 3 you mentioned would definitely help the Cubs as well. I'm still a little uncomfortable with a Soto, Pie and Theriot 6,7, and 8 unless Hendry puts Murton in right and Fukedome in CF. I don't want to make the thread go off tangent but I think these holes should be fixed first. I think Soto will be fine but counting on him being a 280/340 15 Hr guy may be too much and if the other 2 fail also, it might force Hendry to make a poor decision and this is why I'd rather have him make it now. I'm really not so worried about the lineup at this point. If Pie struggles some changes could be made, same with Theriot. Will Lou make them, who knows. Cedeno perhaps getting a chance or using Murton in RF and Fukudome in CF. The problem with trading for anyone to fil those holes is that Hendry doesn't really seem interested in doing that. He's not really looked for a CF or a SS. I know everybody wants Greene but we dont even know if he is available or if we have what the Padres would ask for. There does seem to be plenty of pitching available so if I can't upgrade my lineup, then I would def look at upgrading the rotation if it means getting someone better then our in house options at 4 and 5. Otherwise, I might fill out the bench and call it an offseason. See what becomes available during the season.
  6. Ironically, that pharse could be used to sum up Seligs entire tenure as commissioner. Very true.
  7. I kinda expected more from this report. Other then naming a few names of people who bought or "used" according to 2 sources mainly, this tells us nothing new. We all knew the use of roids and PEDs was there, that they needed better testing progams, that kids should be steered away from it and so on. None of this is earth shattering. Other then Selig being able to say he did something by having this investigation done, I think that has been a pretty big waste of time.
  8. I heard that. Very odd.
  9. If that is how the outfield stacks up, I dont think many teams will run on us. It's possible our SS might have the worst arm on the team.
  10. Thanks for the insight. If it happens before Chistmas it will at least be a good present.
  11. Yeah, I agree with this. I mean I always really liked Greene as a shortstop. He was a good defender and hit for power. His OBP hampered my enthusiasm for him, though. However, after seeing the splits and reading Meph's argument, I'm on board with the idea. I would expect a .800-.850 at least in OPS from Greene and much improved defense (specifically range) over Theriot. That's such a huge upgrade. It would make me giddy. I agree Greene would be a very nice upgrade but isn't this all speculation at this point? I thought I had followed along pretty closely the last few days and I don't remember an article or quote anywhere stating we were talking about Greene with the Pads. Is this still just wishful thinking or is there confirmation somewhere that the Cubs have inquired recently about him?
  12. USS said Petrick in another tread. Didn't they move Veal to the pen? I think we've still got O'Malley who wouldn't kill us for a few starts if we needed him. Do we still have Mateo? I can't remember hearing anything about him for a while.
  13. I'm thinking it's the royals. They have been in on it for a while now too if I remember correctly.
  14. Doubt it affects Guillens contract status but.. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3144472
  15. Well, you have to consider Nick Johnson will be on the DL. Dukes will be suspended. Dmitri will be in rehab. There will soon be plenty of rosters spots in Washington. Sounds like they just missed out on Milton Bradley. He would have rounded that team out nicely.
  16. I don't understand that deal at all. You would think there have been better offers for Tejada
  17. You forgot to add that Hendry hates that a guy who has been so helpful to the Cubs organization is sitting there all unemployed and stuff. Well he has helped the Cubs quite a bit in the past. He helped keep Pittsburgh from being any good and gave us good players for nothing. He's probably helped us more then JH has.
  18. Are they moving to AL so they can use a dh or are they thinking about a trade perhaps? That's a lot of outfielders.
  19. it did say the cubs originally. The player tracker had CHC beside his name on MLB.com, so I posted that without looking any further. Next time I will have to do a little more research.
  20. Do I need to do that or does a mod do it? And I am glad that was an error.. If you start a thread, you can edit it yourself. I went ahead and did it now though. Thanks, never started one I had to correct before. Thank heavens it wasn't true.

  23. I am sure it's somewhere in the 30+ pages here but does anybody know or have the numbers for Kosuke against LHP? I know he is a good hitter I just wondered what the dropoff was from RHP to LHP.
  24. You're in Fantasy Land (a.k.a College) and you don't have time to read 24 pages? show me where I said I didn't have time. I just don't have the desire. Why would someone desire NOT to read the greatest thread ever? The sea lions alone make this the greatest thread ever. How could I forget the sea lions and kittens..
  25. right now it sounds like they are waiting on Angelos to approve a deal. None of the names are 100% but Levine was quoted as saying Cedeno was part of it, along with a pitcher and perhaps an OF. Any ideas as to who the OF might be? I would say someone like Fuld but apparently he's "untouchable." Oh, and what are the chances of Angelos approving this deal? Didn't he turn down a deal involving Roberts at the last winter meeting? Angelos did nix a deal with the Braves last year but I think that had more to do with it being Roberts and Penn for Giles and Laroche. He was/is their # 1 pitching prospect and neither of those guys are that exciting. Hard to get a read on the OF. the only name I have heard so far was Murton, but it was late and I am not sure if it was being implied as Cedeno, Murton, SP or Murton, SP. So many rumors in those 24 pages it gets fuzzy.
