  1. *Searches for a 7 year old, generically-titled megathread to revive in the Social subforum*
  2. The other thing that is confusing about the Transactions forum is that it is now named "Cubs Transactions & Moves" What about non-Cubs transactions? Do those go in General Baseball Talk?
  3. Why can't we be optimistic? Maybe Keegan finally figured things out on the bus back to Iowa.
  4. So weird to see Utah on there.
  5. I wonder what Len's contract status is with the White Sox. I know he signed a "multiyear deal" prior to the 2021 season, so he is currently in his 4th year on the job. Does he really want to continue doing radio in obscurity while watching terrible baseball for the foreseeable future?
  6. Me: The Cubs got a baserunner. They could score a run. 7 year old son: It doesn't matter. They are losing 6-0! Me: Every run counts. Son: AS SIX??? Future NSBB'er he is.
  7. I took my son to the bathroom at Wrigley after the 5th inning. He finished in the bathroom (not a #1), we picked up a malt cup from the concession stands, and got settled back into our seats... with 0 outs in the inning.
  8. We can be mad about all the cheap hits, but none of it matters if the Cubs can't score.
  9. That seems... At least slightly concerning? I thought he usually tops out around 97?
  10. Of course the Cubs play the Padres next week and now have to deal with Arraez again.
  11. I know it's not the way Major League Baseball works in 2024, but at some point the Cubs need to start leaning on their starters to go deeper into games. So what if a guy has to occasionally throw over 100 pitches? This playing ultra-conservative with the starting pitchers is putting too much reliance on a really bad bullpen. You could argue that maybe the starting pitchers wouldn't be as consistently good as they have been if they were throwing more pitches, but there is only one way to find out.
  12. Repeatedly wasting unbelievable starting pitching performances just sucks so bad.
  13. Aww man, I'm going to the game Monday night and was hoping to get Imanaga. But I guess I can't complain about getting Steele back.
  14. Which problem spots would those be? CF, which Bellinger is generally very good at, and 1B, which Busch is fine at and will hopefully continue to improve? I don't think you are gaining a ton defensively by making that move.
  15. Caissie at DH would be awesome and preferable to Mervis. He could also take Mervis' 40 man spot. But I doubt that makes sense if Bellinger/Suzuki are only a few weeks away.
  16. Maybe I'm crazy, but I wouldn't be opposed to a conversation centered around PCA in a Mason Miller deal. Yeah I know, there are injury concerns with Miller, but the guy is dominant when healthy and under control through 2029!
  17. I am a bit late in responding, but I think my thoughts have mostly already been covered by others. I am in agreement that Articles are "clogging the bases" in the Cubs forum and I generally skip over them. I do appreciate the effort and research that goes into writing them, and their importance in leading people to the site, but most of the time they just aren't for me. I would prefer them to be relegated to their own forum, and have voted as such in the poll. I also think the Transactions forum could use some work, and that ties into the megathread idea. I like seeing separate threads for all substantial transactions rather than all discussion being buried inside a megathread, a gamethread, or a generic daily discussion thread. When the Cubs make a roster move, I would love to have that highlighted by a corresponding Transactions thread with appropriate subject line, rather than being buried inside some other thread. Do I want to see a separate Transaction thread when the Marlins sign Matt Swarmer (callback to Matt Swarmer FOCO bobblehead, on sale now!) to a Minor League deal? No, definitely not. But definitely any Cubs transactions and other significant MLB transactions. Overall though, it is great to see the activity picking up!
  18. As someone who follows college basketball very closely, I have seen the impact that the NIL policy has had, both on roster construction and recruiting (which I could rant on for days) and on players' decisions to enter the NBA draft or remain in college. I am curious whether NIL is already having, or will have, any similar impacts for baseball. Are top college/high school stars being offered significant NIL deals, and have we seen any cases where it has led to players remaining in college when they otherwise would have signed with a Major League team? Or is college baseball simply not big enough for schools to justify large NIL offers? It seems like maybe it could become a factor with the second tier of players who weren't clearly decided one way or another, but is there any evidence of NIL money being a deciding factor for players?
  19. That's like the old trick when my parents told me to go to my room and I would create a path of clothes to walk from my room into the hallway. "I'm still connected to my room!"
  20. I have been saying this since well before he signed his extension, and have been consistently proven wrong. I assume he will turn things around this season and prove us wrong again.
  21. You're looking at things all wrong. The Cubs HAVEN'T had a runner thrown out in 2 out of 6 innings!
  22. So extends the streak of lost extra innings games in a row to something like 136.
