  1. Taking two of three from the Cardinals in St Louis isn't bad, but it isn't good enough. We'll still be 11 games below .500 and 12.5 out. It's especially bad since they actually scored some runs today.
  2. He never seems to get on base, but he doesn't K much. Before today he had 20 Ks in 228 ABs.
  3. Good inning. Now the Cubs just have to score... three times. In two innings. With Pierre leading off the 8th. In the other hand, he's gotten on twice.
  4. Mabry is now 2 for 18 pinch hitting. Why not just send Bynum up there? Great, Dusty, perfect time to let a rookie make his major league debut.
  5. And the Cubs give up the lead. I don't care how tired the bullpen is, Dusty has to get somebody up there before Maddux takes us out of it.
  6. This is not Maddux's shining moment. :x
  7. Is it just me, or does it look like the umpp has expanded the strike zone a bit since the start of the game?
  8. Maddux gets three quick groundball outs. Phew. I was getting worried after that first inning. Now they just need to stay patient and score some runs. What's Marquis up to now, 50 pitches?
  9. Really? From the way it was going, Marquis was probably going to walk Womack anyway, so the steal wouldn't have mattered.
  10. And Pierre gets caught stealing with a 3-0 count. Brilliant.
  11. Why is Maddux pitching so terribly? It looks like he has no control at all.
  12. It isn't over, but we're 11.5 games back, and not really all that good. Unless Prior, Wood, and Lee all come back and play 100%, and the Cardinals run out of magic pixie dust that makes career minor leaguers .300 hitters, we don't have a shot at the division.
  13. All they have to do is get their best reliever to get one out before he gives up three runs, and they win. I think it's about 50/50.
  14. I don't know whether to laugh or get sick. Why not both. :(
  15. And Neifi fights off two bad pitches, leading to a popout.
  16. When the ball came off the bat, I would have sworn it was going to be a hit. Phew. Now let's score some runs! :D
  17. Eyre looked tired, but putting in a pitcher with bad control in the bottom of the 12th with the bases loaded? I guess bringing in Dempster was probably the right thing to do, but still, ugh.
  18. What's that...his 3rd of the year?? speaking of which, wasn't Pierre advertised as one of those "rarely strikes out" guys. And doesn't he strike out like all the time now? Before today, 20 Ks in 217 ABs.
  19. Fred, shouldn't Zambano have 6 innings? Right now it adds up to 8.
  20. I think one start might not be quite enough to say that we need to shut him down and completely rebuild his mechanics for a year or two.
  21. The good news: Prior did only go two innings, but he threw three innings worth of pitches (40+, I think). He wasn't pulled earlier than they had planned in terms of pitches. I listened to the radio broadcast. Prior was consistently ahead in the count, and didn't walk a batter. It sounded like his control was pretty good. A couple of runs did score, but it wouldn't have been nearly as bad if the team didn't commit two errors behind him.
  22. I guess that's it for Prior. It could have been worse, at least it sounded like he had decent control.
