On a cold, brisk April night in Chicago, the Cubs sent former Cardinal Jason Marquis to the mound against his former club. The Cards countered with Mark Mulder. Scott Rolen scored on a sacrifice fly after his 1st inning double to give the Cards the early lead. After Soriano and Izturis were quick outs, Derrek Lee blasted one onto Waveland, tying the score. A pitcher's duel between the former teammates ensued until the bottom of the 5th when Jacque Jones took a 2-1 fastball into the right field bleachers to put the Cubs ahead 2-1. The Cubs got an insurance run in the 6th on a Mark DeRosa long ball. 3-1. Yadier Molina's RBI single in the 7th pulled the Cards within one. The Cubs double switched Cliff Floyd into the game along with the new pitcher, Neal Cotts. Cotts gave up an RBI single to Rolen and then a 2 run shot to Pujols to give the Cards the lead back, 5-3. After a pair of scoreless half-innings, the Cubs found themselves down by 2 in the bottom of the 9th. Shockingly, Cesar Izturis took Jason Isringhausen's first pitch into the left center field basket. Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez hit back to back singles putting runners at the corners. Jacque Jones, with the winning run at 3rd, reached on a 5-4 putout by Rolen. Michael Barrett then blooped one in front of So Taguchi but Lee had to hold up. Bases loaded. Pinch hitter Daryle Ward laced a game tying single through eckstein, into left. DeRosa popped out and Floyd grounded out to send it to extras. Bob Howry survived singles by Pujols and Ecktein in the top half of the tenth. Alfonso Soriano led off the bottom of the 10th with a triple, seemingly ensuring a Cubs win. Cesar Izturis and Derrek Lee were both intentionally walked to load them up for Ramirez. Aramis hit a shallow fly to left. Soriano didn't try to score. 1 out. Jacque Jones then stepped in. On the 0-2 pitch, Jones reached out and tapped it to first. Surely an inning ending DP. Albert Pujols bobbled it. Soriano slid in safely and the Cubs celebrated. W-Howry L-Isringhausen S-None CUBS WIN ;)
