  1. If you want JD Drew because his numbers outweigh his injury history/attitude, I can perfectly understand that. But why the revisionist history?
  2. Not to be cavalier about the situation, but I would give the chances Aramis remains a Cub 65/35. He's already come out in the press saying there would be a hometown discount. The parties are talking vigorously. Cubs have money to spend. There's no reason for Hendry not to offer 6 yrs.
  3. Both teams finished decently above the roster-full-of-rookies Cubs. well, to be fair, the Cubs weren't supposed to have a lot of those guys playing for them this year. I'm just saying, it may be fun to scout rookies and hope they succeed in the big leagues...but I think a lot of that is ego stroking. "I" called this player, "I" said so and so would be great, "I" have been following his stats since whenever....a winning ballclub has veterans, usually at a higher ratio to rookies. Fact. Who has said otherwise? You just brought this argument in out of nowhere. It's also a terrible idea to assemble a team full of players in their late 30's who are well past their prime. Fact. I count two players if Gonzalez is signed on the wrong side of 35 on the Cards; Edmonds is the other. They're hardly the Giants. While I wouldn't be shouting from rooftops, Gonzo isn't the worst guy I can think of to sign for a one year stop gap deal. I'm not deluding myself to think the Cards will sign one of the "top" free agent OFs. This could mean one of three things for the Cards: they'd be looking to move Encarnacion, their focus is on starting pitching where it should be, or they're not going to hamstring themselves for years to come with a bad signing.
  4. Looks like this was the best predictor back in Sept.
  5. Conveniently both his free agent contract years. So did he conveniently get plunked last year? Interpret as you wish, this guy can turn it on or off like a light switch. He's that talented. I don't believe in clutch, but this guy's as non-clutch as ARod's portrayed to be. His knees are damaged goods. I don't see him even coming close to 3/4 of a season if he plays centerfield.
  6. Conveniently both his free agent contract years.
  7. This postseason proved more than anything that it is a complete crapshoot. While everyone is making it their favorite pasttime to rag on the makeup of this Cardinals team, I don't remember anyone calling out the injustice of Cardinals teams in the past (who led the league in pitching, offense, and wins in textbook style) and had it handed to them similar to the Tigers this year.
  8. I think this is the best assessment of why the Cards won, http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/baseball/mlb/10/28/extra.mustard.game.5/1.html. Especially this part regarding the post season Cards v. the regular season Cards:
  9. Luckily for you, STL is not recruiting for new citizens at this time.
  10. The Reds are done IMO. The Cardinals are just going to win the division on being the tallest midget. I vaguely recall mocking San Diego last year taking their .500 record to the playoffs. Cards fans have been humbled in a big way this season. I just hope the same fate doesn't happen to the Cards in the first round of the playoffs.
  11. Yeah, you bumped me down a spot for the playoffs by skunking me last week, you scoundrel.
  12. Root against the Sox if you want to. Personally, I hope they win when they're not playing the Cubs. The success of the White Sox puts more pressure on Cubs management to improve the team. It doesn't work too well when Cubs management doesn't know how to improve the team. Ditto.
  13. Luna came up with Cleveland, Cards got him Rule 5 from them. LaRussa has no love for Luna or there'd be no way he would be the starting 2nd baseman to date over Miles. He's publicly outed Luna before. The only way this is good for the Cards is that he'll take ABs away from Miles. They could have just stayed put and started Luna though. didn't realize he was out of favor...but the bolded part makes no sense. seems you saying that if LaRussa really liked him than he'd make less starts. I think you meant to say he would have taken over for Miles a long time ago. I thought he had. Fixed, but you got the point.
  14. Luna came up with Cleveland, Cards got him Rule 5 from them. LaRussa has no love for Luna or there'd be no way he wouldn't be the starting 2nd baseman to date over Miles. 15. Maybe you're just comparing it the Cubs ability to turn perfectly good lemons into rotten ones? That's not intended to be a slam, but when's the last time the Cubs saw improvement from players they've signed? And in all fairness, the Cards have definitely had their share of bad signings. People seem to remember the drastic turnarounds, but there are none to be seen this season.
  16. The Cards were jobbed in the 3rd game! Except for that series 23 run differential!
  17. Ponson again on Sat.
  18. I don't know, I'm of the opinion when you're talking about 25 (Cards), over 50 (Giants), or almost 100 (Cubs), no one should be shouting anything. How about we pull equal with the AL and then we might not be talking about these droughts.
  19. I'm pretty impressed by the move. I thought for sure it would take a full blown implosion (more than just a few bad starts) for Sidney to be demoted. Apparently, there were taking heed of the warning signs. And kudos to Reyes for forcing their hand.
  20. Seconded, is Dempster no longer closing? I could understand in a close game with the meat of the order up?
  21. It is time. The Cards rotation outside of Carp is sucking.
  22. It was brought about by another thread. Gotcha, well it's obviously the worst trade Jocketty's made in his 10 yr. tenure with the Cards and that includes the Tino FA signing (and hopefully the Juan E signing). Let's pay 7.3 million more for a worse starting pitcher and throw in three of our already thin trading chips. Sign me up!
  23. I think it's a convenient time to start this poll.
  24. Anyone who's been watching the Cards recent slump has seen that it's not the offense that's suffering. Our whole pitching staff the month of May into June has been pretty bad. So far, this can't be attributed to Pujols' absence. If anything, the pitching staff needed to be better with Albert gone and instead they've been worse.
