  1. It's likely the Cubs can avoid the T-storms for tonight's game ... though it's too bad the same can't be said for Mrs. Meyers avoiding the thunder and lightning ... nightly ... under a roof ... directly striking her and only her. ... Brett Myers beats his wife
  2. They have boobs at Hooters?! Not to mention bad food and a 15% chance you'll taste aqua-net in the air.
  3. It just sounds like they'll throw him out there with some caution initially. Not that he has established any record with certain pitchers that conduce a favorable matchup, but any pitcher that's tough on lefties (be it a RHP or LHP) may push Pie to the bench until he starts to either A) show "confidence," which presumably means he'll be more disciplined at the plate and not flail or B) do what they want him to do, i.e., hit to LF more, shorten his swing, avoid a power hitter's approach ... learn how to steal. Obviously he'll likely sit vs. LHP, but basically I wouldn't see a RHP matchup as a guarantee until he establishes a better approach - as deemed by Lou - at the plate and looks more comfortable and not resemble a desperate hitter and reduce his value either for the team or as an asset - as deemed by Hendry.
  4. Watch it while you can. They've had some favorable opposition, as well. Wellemeyer's starts through April give him a pretty good shot at earning a few more W's.
  5. I think Lou and Hendry (especially Hendry) are going to want Pie used in situations that are more favorable for him to get him going. They'll probably maintain that until Pie starts to produce consistently. You've got to give reason to thought that Hendry is very leery of CPv2.0. It's likely that Johnson gets a good # of ABs because of that, but I don't see Pie losing out on anything this season because of Johnson.
  6. Glenallen Hill: Budweiser roof
  7. or soriano didn't play LF like one of the special olympics athletes that i coach What does that mean ... like Cub-worthy?
  8. The Cubs beating themselves? ... They've been doing that for quite some time. PS, did your hometown paper not hold an "election" for "home team" coverage this year?
  9. Anyone know why Harden left after 5 IP? Obvious speculation aside?
  10. Lineups: Cubs Theriot SS Pie CF Soriano LF Ward, 1B Fukudome RF Cedeno 3B Fontenot 2B Soto C Zambrano P Halos of Anaheim Willits CF Aybar SS Rivera RF Morales 1B Quinlan DH Mathis C Wood 3B Brown LF Statia 2B Announcer just mentioned Cedeno was a last-minute addition at 3B for Cubs.
  11. Semi-related but does anyone know if Dusty Baker hums "Horse with No Name" to himself while watching weary starters pitch into the eighth + innings? /ducks
  12. Soto hit the sex out of that ball .... I don't get it either. (obligatory) GEOVANY SOTO.
  13. How far away was Santo last time? I want to say he'll get in, but I feel like I'm just setting myself up for disappointment because of a "select" group of ... word filter creativity engine started ... can we start calling a-holes "Nevins" a la "Rusch"?
  14. At this point, I much rather pencil Lieber as the #3 and Dempster back in the pen. But seeing as Piniella has already announced his rotation. People talk about the Cubs not having a true #2---for which I believe Lilly is a TRUE #2---the Cubs really don't have a #3. Dempster/Hill/Marquis/Lieber all are 4/5. Hill is the closest to bein a 3, but he struggles this spring, makes him a back end pitcher. I think they're taking the biased (if not entirely optimistic) viewpoint that a #2 should really be a #1A. That's true if you're team wants to be considered one of the odds-on favorites heading into the season.
  15. Come on, buddy. I don't think you need to worry about filtering or straying far from the topic in this thread. You like cheese? I bet Brian Roberts does, too. He can prepare cheese better than Soriano and can serve cheese from both sides of the dish. And I bet Dusty likes cheese but not the fresh cheese because such cheese may not know how Dusty wants it to taste. He even liked cheese when Hank Aaron liked cheese. Focus ... or don't focus. Just write something. We march onward together. One clumsy band of rumormongers. I gotta take a dump. Ironically, I think Hendry calls that "a good deal for both sides".

  17. /crosses fingers, throws penny in well, says hi to Prior
  18. Come on, Alice! Gameday Audio Link Uh yeah listening to that already. Looking for the Gameday PbP and box link. But thanks Judy! Was a reference to the Maddux/Glavine "Chicks dig the long ball" commercial. Sorry for the confusion. No worries, my buddies and I always give each other girls names when we're joking around and giving each other a hard time. Came from one of our old basball coaches. Yeah, we usually rotate through "Mary/Alice/Nurse" especially Nurse when referencing any shot/swing/serve/etc. Just for the hell of it, here's the commercial.

  20. Clearly, you had to appreciate his comment about Maddux's first Cy Young victory, which he won with the Cubs ... wait for it ... "100 years ago," according to your boy.
