  1. I think he would be a rental. Despite his age and his terrible first half, if the market is anything like last years, if he has a solid second half to go along with the 40 HR season last year, teams will be lining up to sign him. He should only be a rental. Williams will always ask for too much, but I'm wondering if at some point this season that Reinsdorf or someone doesn't squeeze Williams to make a deal and get something for these "walk" players on the White Sox.
  2. Seriously, I hope the Wrigley fans give him a 10 minute standing ovation the first day he takes the mound. Sadly, it will probably be the opposite. I doubt it. Kerry Wood is probably the most universally loved player the Cubs have had since Sandberg I was out by the players parking lot during a game in 2005 waiting for players to come out. The first player to come out was a disabled Kerry Wood. When he walked out, a guy yells "KERRY WOOD GET THE HELL OUT OF CHICAGO YOU BUM!" and then the rest of the crowd, almost if on cue started a long, loud booing. Kerry pretended like he didn't notice it, but you could see it in his eyes that he did. Experiences like that make me wonder why he said that he owed it to the fans to come back this season. that's a really upsetting story. i can understand being frustrated and dissapointed by the guy... but yelling angrily at him? even booing him? to his face? that's classless, and the fact the Kerry can see through it to his true fans speaks a lot about his character, I think. Was at the game on Sunday, and Kerry was in the outfield shagging batting practice balls. The fans were clamoring and shouting for him. Kerry Wood, by most accounts, is still very highly regarded because of the 20K outing vs the Astros (/ducks) and for his performance in the latter half of the 2003 season and 2003 playoffs. Of course, the people who object and want to criticize - or just yell at a player out of frustration - will be the loudest.
  3. Si.com Will look for the link but read that the confrontation with Mitre stemmed from Mitre stepping in when Olsen was berating some (or just one?) clubhouse attendant for not fixing a button on his uniform.
  4. :stickman: Is that a drunk dude? Sorry for the premature steeeek. Gameday was optimistic.
  5. A conversation between him and an excited Devin Hester would be fun to hear. Fixed. Throw in an interrupting Michael Irvin for good measure?
  6. A conversation between him and an excited Soriano would be fun to hear. Moderated by this guy: http://larry.teamoverkill.com/pics/mushmouth.jpg
  7. I sometimes wonder if he makes lamp shades out of skin. "It rubs the lotion on its skin..." "It places the lotion in the basket..." "...or it gets the hose again." This is guaranteed to end this quote fest ... "... i'd **** me." /cue "smooth operator" dance
  8. Only rookies crap their pants, and then it's usually only in pressure situations. Lilly is a seasoned vet. I guarantee there is no fecal matter in his pants. I don't know about that. He does live near Wrigley, and if he's a burrito guy who's been to that place by the Addison el stop ... well, I'm just saying there's a chance.
  9. Pagan in CF, Derosa in RF. Fontenot at 2nd/Theriot SS. Seems like Lou has no place for Izturis per Bruce Levine interview on Silvy/Waddle this am on ESPN1000.
  10. Don't throw trash. But haven't you seen the new bleachers' entrance ... http://www.thetrashbar.com/images/trash_motor.jpg
  11. Is Sut cranky from a hangover or what? Someone get him on a plane to San Diego and open a tab, stat.
  12. A guy in my league has been trying to trade me Placido Polanco for either Rich Hill or Lincecum (I only have Kendrick at 2B who's likely out for July). Any thoughts?
  13. wow. didn't think Jimbo had it in him to admit to such a crappy trade so quickly.
  14. Nothing like using up all of his options early. They use one option only this year no matter how many times they send him out. Hey Bruce! Any word on who's going down? Word should come any minute. Bruce, you're just fueling the fire. I hope they pay you well for putting up with the desperate fervor of Cubdom. Thanks for all the input.
  15. Has it been reported that Petrick has officially been recalled yet?
  16. And Felix goes back down. Please, can we get rid of Jones for anything? http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/paul_sullivan/index.html
  17. Yeah, Soto isn't anything special. But you are talking about a legit opportunity to see an increase of 300+ OPS points out of a position, from the ~400 OPS provide by Hill and Bowen to possibly a 700 from Soto. Any such move is going to draw attention. Hey, I'm here, too. Just wish we had more to pontificate about, like why aren't we hearing more about the 3 teams interested in Izturis? Levine mentioned that the Blue Jays and Orioles were having 'aggressive' discussions regarding Izturis. So, while it's not quite "pursuing," at least it's hopeful.
  18. 9 LOB? I thought only 2 Cubs players made the NL roster.
