Seriously, I hope the Wrigley fans give him a 10 minute standing ovation the first day he takes the mound. Sadly, it will probably be the opposite. I doubt it. Kerry Wood is probably the most universally loved player the Cubs have had since Sandberg I was out by the players parking lot during a game in 2005 waiting for players to come out. The first player to come out was a disabled Kerry Wood. When he walked out, a guy yells "KERRY WOOD GET THE HELL OUT OF CHICAGO YOU BUM!" and then the rest of the crowd, almost if on cue started a long, loud booing. Kerry pretended like he didn't notice it, but you could see it in his eyes that he did. Experiences like that make me wonder why he said that he owed it to the fans to come back this season. that's a really upsetting story. i can understand being frustrated and dissapointed by the guy... but yelling angrily at him? even booing him? to his face? that's classless, and the fact the Kerry can see through it to his true fans speaks a lot about his character, I think. Was at the game on Sunday, and Kerry was in the outfield shagging batting practice balls. The fans were clamoring and shouting for him. Kerry Wood, by most accounts, is still very highly regarded because of the 20K outing vs the Astros (/ducks) and for his performance in the latter half of the 2003 season and 2003 playoffs. Of course, the people who object and want to criticize - or just yell at a player out of frustration - will be the loudest.
