    Clearly all of this angst transpiring between two posters did nothing to motivate either one of them to go assault Bob Howry. For this reason alone, this thread has failed.

    Well, they dumped all their money from their private equity funds into Univision in a club deal, forcing them to go back to their investors and start up another fund just recently and less than two years after their biggest fund to date. The credit crunch has undoubtedly affected their ability to take on and leverage debt, but throwing all their money in early and then trying to drum up more from the same investors w/ no significant returns to show is foolish. Canning himself can make up a lot of ground in the bid, but I doubt he wants to take the risk.

    I think they'd try to move Lieber first, emphasizing value with a combo bullpen + rotation pitcher and see if Marquis would consider coming out of the bullpen. Would love to see OPR keep it up, stretch out in AAA and make it back up to Chicago in August.

    Though I'm not sure what I'd like coming back from NY in that scenario, between this and Marquis running the bases in pinch situations, thumbs up to the cagey posters here on this board. Separatley, and more relevantly, has anyone heard a scenario for what Beane would ask for in exchange for Harden?

    So where does Edmonds keep his little dog while the game is being played? Hope he didn't negotiate to have it sit with him in the dugout because it would probably be in an oversized purse ...     This was probably already suggested but reading too much of this thread will surely lead me to pure rage so pardon any redundance. Raise your hand if you think Edmonds will ride the pine most of the time while Reed gets the bulk of starts in CF essentially relegating Pie to AAA irrelevant of Edmonds' production or potential production. Lou's statement about Johnson yesterday leads me to believe this, as well as the spew-inducing performance I foresee coming from Edmonds based on his crap-worthy stats this year.

    So you mean we'll let a promising young player sit in AAA and tear it up there while we trade/sign for a overrated declining veteran? Does that mean Pie will be as good as Soto next year? :lol: I believe it's the same model used in the Underpants Gnomes South Park episode: Step 1, collect underpants Step 2, ... Step 3, big profit!

    Indeed. He'd be a terrible pick up at this point in his career. I hope this is more speculation than sourced material. Where's Bruce Miles? I fear it's much more likely that Edmonds will be our Jason Kendall v2.0 as opposed to mere speculation. Hopefully there are similar results in a prospect pushing him out of the picture later in the year.

    Anyone know where the pre-game/in-game/whenever Z feels like it routine between Big Z and Fontenot came from - Z's hammering on Fontenot's head? Apologies if this was covered previously. Did a quick search and didn't find anything on it. Thanks!

    I thought they released Nix? Atkins played 2B for a game, I think, but it didn't appear that such an option would be forseeable for the season. Would've opened the door for Stewart, though.

    Nice. Where, I might point, it was snowing !!! :evil: Fortunately, I've come "back down to Earth", as they say. It's a whole lot warmer here in West Sacramento. I'll be heading up to Tahoe this weekend for a bachelor party. Well, not a bachelor party but my bachelor party. Good times shall be had by all. Congrats, soccer! Was there for a bachelor party back in Jan and had a blast - got hosed at the blackjack table, too. I just picked up "the ring" this morning. We're having a staring contest, and it's winning.

    That was great. Thanks. Anyone remember when they took Wood out of that game, and Guthrie - I'm convinced he and Veres could have combined to make one memorably mediocre ambidextrous relief pitcher - got Giambi to K? They showed Wood leaning over the dugout rail, and he spiked his water bottle when Guthrie rung up Giambia and just screamed in excitement. That. Was. Awesome. I miss Kerry Wood as a starter.

    Oh god, that's ugly. We get wgn, about 92 ESPN's, but no CSN. Hell, we get the NASA channel, WTH? Yeah. I go to college in Indiana, the land where nothing makes sense. I had to stay over there later than usual on opening day, so I thought I would watch it on a TV over there. I checked the channel WGN was supposed to be on and found the Research Channel, then I checked ESPN2's channel and found ESPNEWS. I think they have something against Cubs fans. What school do you go to? Indiana State University Oh, okay - I've got a couple friends there I think. I always get mixed up if they go to Indianapolis University or Indiana state Indianapolis Univ? What is that, IUPUI?
