  1. I think a better quotation came from Maddux in the latest Sports Illustrated issue in a small blurb towards the beginning/bit pieces. SI: What's the worst locker room smell? Maddux: Ryan Dempster's sweaty backside. Have to wonder if Demp will strike back.
  2. Is that some sort of riddle? Probably general directions for the Cubs to use should one of them actually get a hit. It's been a while since they've had the opportunity to run the diamond. Wouldn't want to waste all that fantastic speed that we have by virtue of the players being unfamiliar with the progression of baserunning. Jokes aside, the way Livan has been throwing there is a flicker of hope that tonight we see some Cubs offense as opposed to offensive Cubs.
  3. What happened to Ronny? We're not going to lose the tilda to injuries now, are we? #-o
  4. Consistently Underperforming (but) Blazing SPEED! Technically, not right. But management may commend it.
  5. So, if this is a 'desperation move' - albeit a pretty weak one, no offense to The Riot - which would you rather read in the paper: The Cubs calling up The Riot today to provide that much-needed speed, -OR- the Cubs putting their clubhouse manager "Otis" in as batboy to help break their first long losing streak last year? And remember, death is not an option.
  6. Has there been any word on whose place on the 25-man roster The Riot will take?
  7. On the next Bonds on Bonds: Barry talking during BP: "You know they don't want me to break that record. I'll prove them wrong or die trying ... (ball immediately hits Bonds flush in the head) -Cut to Bonds at home- Barry (crying): "They're all out to get me." Incidentally, how much would you pay a broadcaster to ask Bonds straight-faced: "Would the ball have had less of a chance to hit you when you were in Pittsburgh, you know, before the HGH and steroids grew your head to monstrous proportions?"
  8. anyone else having trouble accessing espn.com? I like having their gameday animation feed in conjuction with the euphoneous broadcast of Pat Hughes and Ron Santo.
  9. No. NO, Yes! Yes, Yes! Ah, ah ah, Kiss me! AAHHHHH!! Your helmet is so big! "May the Schwwaaaaaartz be with you!"
  10. Rich Hill just called up per Cubs pre-game from Dusty on WGN-720!
  11. You beat me to the thread punch! Does he have a nickname yet? How about "Murton for Certain"? Seems to dovetail nicely from his overuse of the phrase "no doubt about it." Bad news, Marshall just said in his postgame interview he's fortunate to be able to pick Glendon Rusch's brain. I hope he's referring to asking Rusch where to go for dinner.
  12. With less than 12 hours until the game I propose that we cease and desist all talk of a Z no-no. It's like in the Big Lebowski, i.e, 'you don't f with the jesus.' And you don't f with the baseball gods. I just want to see some good pitches from Z, one pitch at a time. Hopefully this becomes a good series for J-Strap to swing the bat, start making consistent contact and deliver some good OBP.
  13. I don't know about that. For those of us here in Chicago, there's a little place on Clark Street 3 blocks south of Wrigley called El Jardin (it's a soft "J" like in "jogging" ... apparently you just run) that serves some deadly margs. The Chicago Tribune's social/nightlife/etc web site Metromix reviews the Jardin's margs by stating that "two of these margaritas will have you walking on your hands and seeing stars." Point is, I think you're in the right crowd here. Cheers. My wife is a fan of the El Jardin margaritas. She says they're very good. I can't vouch since I don't drink tequila. Bad experience... I'm not sure there's ever a truly good experience with tequila. It's like riding a bull. It's cool for a little while, but once you're bucked ... you're bucked.

  15. Happy bruceday, Birth! What?
  16. If I'm not mistaken, Wood had the same surgery Matt Morris did last year, right? He's 2-0 on the year, but anyone know how he's looked and where his velocity is at, etc. I remember Morris' last year with the Cards and you could tell the pop and velocity wasn't there. It's not entirely accurate to say that Wood had the same surgery as anyone or to look at anyone to gauge how he should come back. There are varying degrees of damage that are done to the labrum, and the repair isn't necessarily the same for different people. Having said that, any loss of velocity that Morris may or may not have can likely be contributed to the fact that he's now on the wrong side of 30, and really has been on the decline since that "breakout" season in 2001. I thought Kerry went in for arthroscopic surgery to repair his rotator cuff and doctors found some fraying of the labrum that they repaired additionally. With Morris, I believe it was a torn labrum from the beginning. I think Wade Miller's injury may be more akin to Morris' situation. Regardless, Kerry's value to this club is as a starter.
  17. I love any Cubs game, and I have no class. Sincerely, Rodney Dangerfield Here's to seeing Pierre get the production going in a warm weather environment and slide into a groove. Lee commented that Pierre was a bit of a slow starter. Perhaps all the bunting attempts in ST didn't yield enough prep time actually swinging at pitches.
  18. Agreed. To be enshrined in a Cubs hat Maddux would have to contend for the Cy Young this year, win the WS this year and then repeat both next year. So, that said, Vegas has the Cubs hat as a loooooong shot.
  19. He's on the books for 5 million, he isn't going anywhere. Not unless he's traded. Wow! they really gave him 5 million? That was a really bad idea.... *shakes his head* ... 5 million? really? In the words of Ron Burgundy, "I immediately regret this decision." BEAR FIGHT!
  20. almost? What's holding you back? Lose all my posts and I'm too lazy to change and think of a new name. if you pm tim he can just change your name and you won't lose posts Any idea on what to change the name too? "The poster formerly known as [expletive] McGee33"?
  21. blech ... I just threw up in my mouth. Any report on Guzman's progress?
  22. Going to the game today and am pumped. It may be a little cold but we'll be heading into the El Jardin for a warm-up marg and off to some first baseline seats. Listen for me over the tv. I'll be the voice in the background yelling at Macphail and Hendry to sign D-Lee and give him whatever he wants.
  23. Did the Cubs just take the field to Bon Jovi? This is an improvement from Van Halen's "Jump"?
  24. How that guy on the right isn't Marcus Fizer I have no idea. Unless he has talent. That could be the difference.[/img]
  25. Yeah, I couldn't find any SP info for today's game. Hopefully we'll be able to watch Wood and Prior pitching for the I-Cubs in April as they make their way back to Chicago.
