I was just trying to point out an essential truth about Chicago Cubs baseball. And nope, no anal pun intended there. I know you weren't, that was why I questioned it being quoted (by the original poster) in the first place. Keep fighting the good fight boy - you would have thought there is no sarcasm anywhere on this board anymore. Bruce - I know that you were not trying to be funny, but stating the fact. The reason why I thought it was funny is that it is so obvious to all of us that do "honor" the OBP as a real statistic while other people (who make out lineups) do not see the importance of having guys in the #2 spot with higher OBP. that is all - sorry if you did not find it a bit humerous. I think it implies that the number two batters of late are not really threats to get on base. It is funny the way it is worded - and simply put it is a backhanded slap of Dusty Baker.

can you imagine if David Stern were the commissioner of baseball and not basketball? If Cuban gets fined $250,000 for yelling at a ref, can you imagine what the words Guillen has used would bring - also his blatant approach at hitting guys...

agreed - I am sort of shocked at how disinterested in this team right now. I do not tape games like last year. I hardly make it a priority to watch them and even when I do I flip back and forth to something a bit more interesting. I am shocked at how I feel... -
You're all absolutely right about the derogatory sexual slurs. I'm not debating that at all. They have no place anywhere. But you know what? Someone decides to badmouth me in the newspaper, I'm going to use every swear word I can find. It may not be professional in the sports sense, but attacks upon a person don't have to be professional. Both of them just need to keep their traps shut if nothing productive is going to come out of them. did I miss something - did Mariotti say something about Guillen? If not, what gives him the obligation to open his mouth to defend an opposing manager? That is simply classless and really his comments are extraordinarily offensive. Guillen apparently has also made some criticisms of Ozzie and Chad Tracey or something...the Dusty thing was not the only trigger. yep, sorry - just noticed that as well....still does not justify some of those comments

Things I wouldn't have guessed (or would not want to know...) That Patterson is having a higher AVG than Cedeno, Murton, Aramis, & Pierre - a higher OBP than Jones, Aramis, Cedeno, & Pierre - a higher OPS than Walker, Cedeno, Murton, & Pierre - and more SB than Pierre... That Nomar would be leading our team in Runs, Hits, 2B, RBI, SO (the fewest), AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS... -
Reads good to me as well however, its got to start with a removal of Baker. Despite his claims to contrary, he's shown an unwillingness to let a young player play thru his struggles. Pie, Murton, Roit will all, at some point slump, upon which Baker will start pulling the crap he's currently doing with Murton. Pierre, who will "do his thing" gets start after start to bring his OBP up to .300 yet, Murton after a few bad weeks suddenly needs to be platooned because he struggling with RHP, simply amazing. I want last year's "patient OBP conscience Matt Murton" back. The guy who hit and got on base before Baker conveniently told him to be more aggressive. Watch him now and see how many first pitches he swings at. He hardly ever did that in the small sample we had of him last year.

Hey - do you think that if I were to sue the management staff of the Chicago Cubs, I could get my $150 back that I payed for MLB extra innings so that I can watch them play? I am not asking for much, not even pain and suffering - just my stinking money back that I put out so that I can watch this terrible event take place (because they do not want to televise on WGN much anymore). Maybe we could make it a class-action lawsuit - anybody in?

I really do agree with everything that is being stated here - it is really depressing. I do hope they continue to lose - I hope management has no choice than to make a complete overhaul. I never thought I would ever be here, but I just want them to lose everygame (except against sox & cardinals - not quite that desperate yet). I would love to see some guys that have some fire - that show some excitement - give me the Iowa Cubs instead of this team - anything...
