  1. While I agree with most everything you said, in 2003 Patterson had a good month of May, but was headed back to normal in June and July. In 2003 he had 15 walks in 83 games, this year in 82 games he 16 walks, and last year he had 45 walks. I agree that Patterson is not the sole problem on this team and I would hate to see him succeed somewhere else, but the fact is he's the same player today he has always been. I can't stand Dusty Baker, but to say he is responsible for Corey's production isn't true, he is responsible for putting him in the leadoff spot over and over again.
  2. I may be wrong about this, but I believe that each player has 3 option years. When a player is first called up (excluding September callups), that counts has his first option year, leaving the next 2 seasons as his option years. Corey was up in 2000 (September I think) and then again in 2001, so I think his option years would've been 2001, 02, and 03. So he would have to clear waivers to go to AAA.
  3. What's really embarassing about it, is that his peaking doesn't seem to help one bit.
  4. Definitley were in the West division until Selig created the three division alignment (1994 I think). Odibe McDowell, I do remember him.
  5. John Schuerholz and Bobby Cox joined the Braves in 1990. The first season was mediocre, but from 1991 on, you all know the story. They were the doormats of the NL West back then, other than Dale Murphy I couldn't name one player from a single one of their teams in the 80's.
  6. This is true on a typical team, however on the current Cubs our starting pitchers are better hitters than several other regulars in the lineup and all are better at the sacrifice bunt than the rest of the team.
  7. I'll take Orel Hersheiser. Other than the Cubs, the Rangers are the team I get to see the most of on TV and this guy has the fire that this team needs and he knows how to handle players. Call me crazy, but that's who I want.
  8. There is no reason why Hairston can't play LF. He should be av everyday LF/CF at this point. The notion of Dusty playing certain players (Holly and Neifi) for their defense is ridiculous when we continue to lose 4-2, 4-0, etc.
  9. the 3rd strike on Cedeno appeared to be in the same spot as the 2 previous pitches, which were both called balls. is that about right? that's the way it looked on sportsline.
  10. that was adventursome, but he got the job done.
  11. although Schneider hits .300 vs lefties, .248 vs righties and is 0 for 9 career against Dempster.
  12. Ohman in a big spot again. Hold 'em down Will!
  13. He got too big of a secondary lead. The pitch was outside and it was an easy throw to third. And yeah, that ball was clearly a HR. I don't know how you can miss that... Did Dusty bother to get off his seat and argue? ah from that angle they got the call right. and yes dusty did argue it. thanks i'm at work as usual, so you guys are acting as my eyes.
  14. He got too big of a secondary lead. The pitch was outside and it was an easy throw to third. And yeah, that ball was clearly a HR. I don't know how you can miss that... Did Dusty bother to get off his seat and argue?
  15. IF we get a couple on this inning is Ramirez available to PH?
  16. I'm not trying to start an argument, because I agree with you to an extent. However, I think OBP is beginning to be an over-analyzed stat. The Marlins are 5th in MLB in OBP, but have only scored 335 runs (19 fewer than Cubs), while the White Sox are near the bottom (below Cubs) in OBP and have scored 370 runs (16 more than Cubs). Didn't have time to look at every team, these are just the two that jumped out at me. I already know, you're going to tell me the Red Sox lead MLB in OBP and Runs scored. I guess I'm looking for how can the White Sox score that many more runs than the Cubs and why aren't the Marlins scoring more? I'm tired of D Lee coming up with bases empty myself!
  17. At least we don't have to deal with Vidro, Johnson, and Church. Will Johnson or Church play at all this weekend? I know Vidro is headed for a rehab stint.
  18. There is another thread on this guy, but call me crazy, I still think Lew Ford is a great option. He will plug the hole now and can contribute in the future.
  19. If this were the case, I don't think anybody would trade with Atlanta. Schuerholtz almost always seems to come out on the good side of trades. I don't know every trade he has made for Atlanta, but the ones that come right to mind wound up in his favor.
  20. Dusty needs to consider pitching Maddux only in night games. That would be very difficult to do, I know. But his splits show a night ERA of 3.95, WHIP 1.22, and BAA .262. While the same numbers in day games are 5.55, 1.41, and .308. He's had 10 starts in day games and 7 night games. Obviously, with the number of day games the Cubs play it's almost impossible to pitch him only at night, but when possible it should be considered.
  21. I for one would go for Lew Ford. Not touching Jacque Jones though. If it's Hairston for Ford I'm in.
  22. It doesn't make sense as to why the Rockies would want Ronny Cedeno in the first. 1: They had the "front-runner" NL ROY SS Clint Barmes. 2. One of their top prospects in the organization is Chris Nelson. Third they JUST drafted a SS in the first rd....Troy Tulowitzki. Them asking for Ronny Cedeno is beyond redundant, and I believe Hendry has to know that, and thus WON'T put Cedeno in the deal. Add in the fact that they already have a top prospect at 3B in Ian Stewart...I really can't figure this deal out. They can't exactly shift one of their players over and moving some one like Nelson or Stewart out into the OF would just be more trouble that it's worth, imo. Plus Barmes should be coming back sooner or later. They're all better than Cedeno...so why in the blue blazes would the Rockies want him?! These rumored deals just aren't making any sense. The only way it would make sense is if the Rockies are shipping one or more of those prospects off in some sort of deal either involving one team dumping a high salary guy on them with cash or if the Rockies are shipping Todd Helton off somewhere and tossing in a really good prospect or two to make the deal palatable. Can anyone else make any sense of what the heck is going on here from the Rockies' standpoint? Well one thing is all of you are assuming the Rockies are competent to run a baseball team and are thinking logically about Barmes, Stewart, etc., history indicates that may not be the case. My question is, can someone tell me how Preston Wilson is an improvement over Corey Patterson?
