  1. c'mon put this game away! God I love beating the Cards!
  2. I think the only good thing you could say about the Dusty era is we've handled the cards pretty darn welll
  3. My problem is that he has been involved in a number of heated discussions regarding Rich Hill on this board (including one in yesterday's game thread). There's nothing wrong with his opinion, but it's getting to a point where I'm absolutely sick and tired of people stirring the pot just to cause trouble. We've covered Rich Hill's ability/inability to perform as a major leaguer. There is no reason to keep drudging it up again and again to backhandedly bash other posters, prove a point, or just make trouble. There was absolutely no need to bring Rich Hill into the conversation of Marmol's ability. I'm not trolling dude. I'm just making a observation between the confidence and mound presence between Cubs pitchers starting their ML careers at the same time. I think it's a important factor as to why Rich Hill has failed at the ML level. Sorry you took it as trolling but no need to get upset about it. It's cool...
  4. What a difference watching Marshall or Marmol pitch then watching Hill. Both of these pitchers want it! You can see it in their eyes. Hill just looks plain scared...
  5. Comparing Maddux to Hill is not even funny...
  6. Hill at best projects as a Lefty Spec. I've been saying this since last year...
  7. Interesting indeed! Well as other poster said we needed give Hill the lead so he can relax. Well the cubs did and the next inning Hill gave it back. So much for that theory...
  8. Bobby Hill! I always like his moxie to bad he never had the skills to stick...
  9. C'mon Marmol! I think he'll have a good game today...Just a feeling.
  10. "I kind of wore down quick,'' Hill said. "I came out and threw everything at them almost in the first inning.'' Sounds like the start of a relief pitcher in the making to me....
  11. Lets not forget Maddux was 20 and 21 in his first two years in the bigs. Hill is 26 years old.
  12. Lets not mention Hill in the same breathe of Maddux. Please?
  13. I think the Rolen at bat was huge then, and in fact during the at bat I was thinking that this is the difference between the two leagues. When Hill gets ahead of Triple A hitters, he can throw the curve, and they strike out. Rolen fouled off some nice pitches from Hill (a couple bad pitches too)-and Hill couldn't keep throwing strikes and walked him. The good thing is, something like this might get better as Hill learns what pitches can get major leaguers out without having to strike everyone out. Sure that's fine, but the most distrubing part of it is he just fell apart and gave up the game...
  14. if he has trouble thowing K's he should'nt be in the bigs Then every pitcher should be in the minors, they all have games where they struggle with the strike zone. Yeah, but Hill has not been consistent enough in the strike zone to stay in the big leagues. His minor league stats are so impressive though that you know it is mental. I'm pretty sure the guy can throw strikes, he just needs the confidence that he can go out there and get the job done. Just for kicks look up Scott Ruffcorn minor league stats... just for kicks look up greg maddux's 86 and 87 stats. People keep saying that, but no one acknowledges that we are essentially comparing Hill to a once in a generation talent. Do you truly believe Hill will even approach Maddux? Isn't it more likely thaat he will be, at best, serviceable? There are also worse pitchers than Maddux who have had rough goes in their early MLB time. I think the point is not to say Hill will eventually repeat his AAA dominance in the show, but rather that we should wait before condemning him as a one trick pony. This is Hill's 9th start...You be the judge
  15. I am wondering the same thing...he is like a best-ever AAA man but can't do squat here. The mound must be 45' 6" from the plate in AAA. No wait, the baseball is bigger in AAA, no wait he pitches right handed in AAA, no wait..... Simply He's not a ML pitcher....
  16. Just look at Hill body language in the 2nd and you knew he was done

  18. not a big deal...hill's had pinpoint control tonight. I realize you're being sarcastic, but what does your response have to do with my post?? i was agreeing with you. it was stupid to pitch out there...for the reasons you mention plus the fact that he hasn't had good command. and hill's probably thrown his last pitch as a cub. And there goes any trade value we had...
  19. if he has trouble thowing K's he should'nt be in the bigs Ok, so using that logic, Z should be in the minors seeing as he can be so wildly inconsistant from one game to the next. Lets not compare Z to Rich Hill okay?
  20. if he has trouble thowing K's he should'nt be in the bigs
