  1. Can we stop with the AAA stats? They are meaningless until he proves otherwise in the ML. AAA is no where near the majors! If that was the case he wouldn't have a 9 era in 8 starts in the bigs...Save all the Rich Hill love until he actually impresses in the majors.
  2. Cedeno should've taking that play himself.
  3. I can hardly wait until Thursday. He's a mystery and you don't know what going to happen.
  4. Pretty good article about Hill on baseballamerica.com http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/news/261992.html
  5. Marshall has shown the ability to get people out at the ML level and has made numerous quality starts this year. Obviously not every young pitcher is going to pitch like Jered Weaver or Liriano, but I want to see some progress which is what Marshall has shown at points this year. Has he had his setbacks? Of course. Most young pitchers do. But Hill hasn't shown any progress. Again, how could you possibly percieve "progress" or "regression" in only FOUR CONSECUTIVE STARTS!? Why couldn't you? If you are making the same mistakes for 4 straight startsl then you aren't exactly making progress right?
  6. If a corner OF w/ an .835 is a Superstar, you can have all the Superstars you want. At 2B, that's good; for corner OF, it's nothing special. I want good baseball players, hype or not. Soriano's all hype. Thats a little over the top. Has he been overrated in the past? You bet. This year he is hitting almost .300, OBP over .360 and he is on his way to 40 HR's, 40 doubles, and 40 steals. I don't think it's fair to say he is "all hype" at this point. Will he do it again next year? I have no idea. He is doing it now though. Agreed! Hype or not look at his numbers this year. Can't deny he's having a great year.
  7. Huh? You do realize teams win the world series with guys like Cedeno and Murton right? Well I wouldn't go that far.
  8. He's going to get at least 10m a year come next year. It's what the current market demands. I mean is Furcal worth 13m a year? Is AJ Burnett worth 5\60 million?
  9. I'd take players that know how to play the game of baseball...
  10. Easily explained by the fact that Soriano is completely destroying his numbers from the past few years. edit: his ops is 81 points better than his career best and 121 points better than his average (which he was below the previous two years) I agree I was on the anti-soriano bandwagon but you can't deny the numbers he's putting up this year... I have never supported the idea of getting Soriano. I admit that he's been somewhat productive. The problem is that the hype surrounding him has grossly outweighed his real value. He is simply not a $10+ million player. And since the Cubs' biggest need has been OBP for several years now, Soriano would not be the right guy for this team. That's not to say he couldn't help, I just never thought he would help enough to justify the cost. Note: I am not sitting here saying Jim is an idiot for not getting Soriano. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if Hendry still got him, since he's such a prototypical Hendry target (hyper-aggressive athlete). Let's face it in this current market he's a 10 million dollar a year ball player...

  12. Well don't forget Kenny actually has talent to trade. We don't. And who's fault is that? Gee, I don't know! Start with MacPhail and work your way on down.
  13. Because they did it once they will always do it? You can't prove you will turn it on when it counts, you can only prove that you have done it in the past. But it's not like they stunk throughout 2005 and flipped a switch, they were pretty good all year long. I'm sure most or all of that starting staff won't duplicate last years numbers but they won't have to with this lineup. Put it this way I like thier chances...

  15. Well when you're allowed to just assume things like the comments in parantheses, it sure works well. If Buehrle continues to have a down year (like he is) Contrares Garland (up and down, up and down = question mark) Vazques (not good at all this year) Garcia (not good at all this year) If I make those parantheses, then I don't see giving up McCarthy for a rental as as good an idea as some of you do. These are all big game pitchers...You know that they are going to turn it on when it counts. They proved that last year.
  16. Does it make a difference. You weren't going to get much of anything for Walker or Nevin.
  17. From rotoworld.com...Pretty funny: Cubs placed first baseman Derrek Lee on the 15-day disabled list with post-traumatic inflammation of his right wrist. It looks like Cubs have mishandled yet another injured player. Lee might be back in 15 days, but it's anyone's guess how much of an impact he'll make the rest of the way. The Cubs will go back to using Phil Nevin and Todd Walker at first base for now. If either or both is traded, it might be that John Mabry will also see time at first. Neifi Perez and Ryan Theriot will get Walker's playing time at second base. Jul. 24 - 4:06 pm et
  18. Man, this team is a complete mess! Might as well shut dlee and prior down for the rest of the season. Neither is healthy...
  19. Point blank in the 4 starts he looked over matched in the big leagues. He didn't look comfortable on the mound and showed no presence what-so-ever. It was a good move by the Cubs to let him work on whatever was wrong in AAA. Hopefully it pays off for him or maybe he's suited for the pen. Who knows? but if the "whatever was wrong" was getting used to pitching in the big leagues, sending him down would not help him work on "whatever was wrong." How do you know that? We can sit here all day and talk about Rich Hill being a dominate AAA pitcher, but the point is until he proves other wise he'll remain a dominate AAA pitcher. I think everyone is in agreement that he deserves a good chance on the ML level and It looks like he'll get that chance. If 4-5 starts from now his ERA is still in the 9.00 or worse then It'll be quite obvious you have to find other role for him.

  21. BRAVO! Great thought out post! Gives both sides of the agrument something to think about. I'm so curious to see how he fares on Thursday.
  22. And the 5 BB's and 2 HR's in 4 innings didn't help either. In which game? The same game you mentioned. The Sox game.
