  1. Wow! Just got out of a meeting to see this. Brutal start for Marmol eh?
  2. The problem is...we need both of them plus another front line pitcher. Unless the Trib raises the payroll up to $120 million or so we're in deep doo doo in 2007...yet again. I think any deal for Tejada and Baltimore would want Z. That just can't happen. I'm not so sure. The NL just stinks and it'll prolly be the same next year. If we add another starter and a Soriano or Lee, we can compete with anyone in the NL. I really believe that...Of course we need to stay healthy... I don't think the NL can be as bad next year. I think we'll need to replace 2 of the 3 bats of Cedeno, Murton, and Izturis to have a chance to keep up. Izturis will be the starting SS next year. No doubt about it. Murton will not be the LF'er next year and who knows about Cedeno.
  3. CLee does still look like the most viable and Hendry-like move, although he has been more of a 825-850 OPS guy. That would still be an upgrade of 150+ OPS points in LF (and he could really explode at Wrigley) and enable a platoon in RF that could gain us another 100 OPS there as well. That said, I'd still love to see us go hard after Cabrera. Adding him to the lineup would mean a huge lift all over. Soriano would be about in the CLee category but probably more expensive. I wouldn't mind seeing JD Drew in RF either. What would Marlins want for Cabrera? That would be scary...
  4. They'll get it done. No way the Cubs let him leave.
  5. I think he's willing. He loves Chicago and his wife is from Chicago. If the Cubs offered him 1 million plus incentives I bet he stays...
  6. I guess he talked to doctors and other players with similar injuries and not having sugery worked for them...
  7. I'd be shocked if Murton is the starting LF'er next year.
  8. There is talent in the pitching department, but you still need hitting...
  9. The 1984 was the best Cubs team I've seen in my lifetime. That was my first crushing Cubs heart-break. I was devasted! Just a fun professional team. Would've been a fun World Series with the Tigers...
  10. I think Wood would only be asked back to the Cubs at a serious discount, and probably with mucho incentives. If he wants to come back that badly, I'm all for it. He doesn't hurt this team as much if he's planned as a reliever IMO. I just want 5 healthy starters....I know I know...I ask a lot. I agree. Offer him 1 million with incentives to make more...If he turns it down then it's no loss to us...
  11. No, no, no...Never count on Wood being healthy. I'd rather have too much pitching then not enough. If Wood proves healthy then someone can be traded at the Allstar Break...
  12. What's so low about it? There is no shame with the Pen. Just ask smoltz.
  13. I hope he signs a 1 year deal to stay with the Cubs in the 'Pen. I think he can be nasty in the pen! I can't help it I'll always be a Wood fan. The guy bleeds Cubbie Blue and he gives you everything he has (including his arm) every time he takes the mound. He's the one pitcher in the league that you pay whatever it takes to watch...When he's healthy! The pen would be alright by me next year...

  15. Hendry actually said that? Sure did! Murphy mentioned how Oakland A's preaches OBP starting with the lowest levels on the minor leagues and why don't the Cubs. Hendry said if you look at the Stats Oakland is one of the worst in the league in OBP.
  16. He's going to re-sign Pierre. He has to because Pie is not ready. Give him another year or two in the minors. In all honesty I would've liked another year in AA this year. Pierre has been very good the last two months of the season. Sometimes it takes a player a while to get used to Wrigley and the day games. I think Pierre was just trying to do everything to prove himself and he just needed to relax and play the game. I'm all for Pierre for another year or two...
  17. He came back on sat.
  18. That's your problem, not his. Prototypical, better year, stereotypical, leadoff hitters are grossly overrated. Walker could do the job better than anybody the Cubs have had for several years. Has he ever leadoff in his entire career? I think there is more to leading off then getting on base right? This year Walkers OBP is 20 points higher then Juan Pierre ,but isn't juan more of a threat because of his speed? Isn't Walker more suited for the 2nd place hitting slot?
  19. What a guy hitting .292 with 28 HR and 82 RBI with a OBP .352 isn't good enough? Huh? Carlos Lee is 96th of qualified players in OBP. He's not a bad player, but on a team that's going to need an OBP stud to overcome low OBP guys in Izturis, Jones, and possibly Cedeno, it's not enough. Gee, Hee Flop Choi is an OBP stud, he just can't hit too well. See, this is called trolling. No, just stating a well known fact. Sheez those OBP guys get testy eh?

  21. It was funny on the Murphy show Hendry said he value's RISP over OBP.
  22. Which is what he does? He's got 2 100 RBI seasons in his career, and he's 30, and has hit in the middle of some good lineups. That's nothing special. He doesn't have an inate ability to drive runners in. He's just a second rate corner outfielder who is going to get way too big of a contract, and tha contract will last through his declining years. So who should the Cubs target next year if you were GM? I'm just curious...
  23. RBI is a team stat, you don't take them with you when you switch teams. Carlos Lee is pretty mediocre for a slugging corner OF. He's got a career OPS+ of 111, hardly the stuff of stars. And it's not like he was at 90 for a few years and then went to 135 the past couple. He's been a consistenly above average hitter, but not much more. Those are definitely not the kind of numbers you throw big year, big money contracts at, especially when that contract will take a player from 31-35/36. We aren't blinded by OBP, we are completely devoid of it. If the team had any ability in that department we wouldn't clamor for it so frequently, or focus so closely on it. But you still need hitters to drive in the people that are on base. Which is what Lee does. I mean his OBP is not terrible. Who else in the FA market next year would be a better fit. Sheffield?
  24. My preferred option (which has been campaigned for here by vance and others) would be to stick Jones in CF and get a bat in RF, where they are much easier to come by. And if your question was regarding a leadoff hitter, we don't need the little quick guy who might steal bases. We just need someone who's really good at getting on base. It's a shame. We had a decent leadoff hitter on the roster, already. Unfortunately, he didn't hit there at all this season, and we shipped him off for basically nothing on Monday. Oh, well. He's in a better place. :x I don't consider Walker a leadoff hitter at all.
