Oh man, now you did it! Shhh! doesn't matter, he's a cub... he's bound to suffer some debilitating injury at some point Unless he's traded, then of course there is a Cy Young in his future... Or they could provide him with solid coaching and attempt to lessen the risk for injury via cautious usage patterns and he could become a solid health pitcher for the Cubs. Hmmm...Nahh! That would make too much sense...

Thank god someone said it. Last year I was going with my friends and I wanted to sit in the RF Bleachers because Burnitz was in right (yes, I am a Burnitz fan), and Dubois was in left. My friends freaked out and were like "what?! right field sucks! left field is the place to be!" Needless to say, I didn't get to sit in Right Field. I only go there when I have outta town friends come in town looking to catch a game. I never liked the bleachers. Give me Box seats any day of the week... -

That really says something as to how pathetic the NL is. Agreed. I find myself taking cursory glances at how Cincy is doing to see if the Cubs can draw closer. And that's just ridiculous considering how laughably bad the Cubs have been. I do the same thing. As bad as we played the first half at least the 2nd half is enjoyable. It's nice having a half of season not worrying about Prior and Wood. The status of the rest of the NL just pisses me off even more that Hendry and Baker did such a bad job. The division was there for the taking, and so was the entire league. MacPhail's absurd "contend within the division" mantra, and the quest for mediocrity that this entails could have actually done some good this season if they managed to do anything good in the offseason. As much work as the 2005 team needed to get better, it wouldn't have taken much to make this 2006 team at least .500 capable and possibly contending. I was talking about that last night with a friend of mine. All we had to do is play .500 baseball to be in it. It's a shame a team with a 95 million dollar payroll couldn't even do that, with or without DLEE.

It's a little better than a 1 in 1000 chance. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_oddspec.php I'd buy a lottery ticket if I had a 1 in 1000 chance, but I wouldn't plan on seeing baseball on the north side in October. But it's still a chance!

Wouldnt it be something if we could go a whole day without someone talking about a team that has absoloutley no bearing on ours? I have a ton of Sox fans who have been giving me hell for two years, so it would have a bearing on my life. It shut them up for a while...I'm sure I'm not alone.

Looks like Marmol has the best pure "stuff", but can he learn control? I honestly don't know who has the most upside. Each has their faults and I haven't seen them enough to make that call. -

Can I ask why? I'd rather take a chance on Girardi because he's really done a nice job this year with the Marlins. Fredi has never managed before, yet I've been hearing about him for years. What makes you think that Fredi would be the better pick?

.238/.273/.286 Are those really his numbers or Ohio States top football players SAT scores? It's what espn.com lists his numbers as a Cub, but sometimes they are late to include the previous days' stats into the current total. In fact, now it says .250/.298/.343 when you dig a little deeper. Ya see, things are already looking up for Izturis! :wink:

and if it weren't for negative comments about the negative comments some other people would be the silent type. I actually started this by making a positive post about the Cubs play as of late, and it turned out to be a negative post about Izturis. Go figure...

It was for a defensive superstar who drives in runs with his glove. Point taken...we can go round and round on this but won't. IF we can get a Loretta type at 2B I think this Izturis thing just might work out pretty well. There aren't many ground balls at Wrigley that are routine....see Pagan's double late in the game. There are funny hops out there...he's got the talent and the arm to stick with it and still make an out on a fast runner. I don't deny that he's defensively talented. The point of all of this is that he's not a flawless gem of a defender who makes up for his lack of offense with a great glove. He's more than likely better than most with his glove, but that's not good enough for a guy making what he makes in a lineup as bad as the Cubs. I don't think anyone said he was flawless? I mean even the best players have bad days.

What goes unmentioned was he was 2/4 at the plate with a RBI.

He is giving Murton a compliment by saying he has struggled at times but found himself for a strong second half run while complimenting Pagan, too. Oh my...the humanity. I realize most people here don't like Baker and want him gone, but don't try to find reasons to criticize unfairly. I agree that sometimes the piling on of Baker is a little over the top. In this case, I'm not so sure it isn't justified though. I would like to know the context of the comments, but it sure seems what he is saying here is 'Murton is coming around thanks to the way we use him, Pagan on the other hand is the truly talented one.' That's what I'm reading, and it seems to have been a trend. Dusty talked about missing Pagan almost as much as he missed the rest of his horses. And he spoke of nothing but doubt about Murton last year when he was putting up better numbers than Pagan is now. I haven't heard him talk about protecting Pagan from the proverbial book that's bound to come out about him. That is a pretty crappy Baker comment? It's really uncalled for...
