  1. He's been mentioned a lot. He's just not that good. Murton was better during the 2nd half. Lee has been consistently good, but nowhere near great, and doesn't deserve the type of contract they are talking about him getting. He's 30 now, coming off a career year, with an OPS+ of 125. Typically he's closer to the 110-115 level, which is barely above what Jones did this year. So, you're talking about a guy who is not as productive as Ramirez, but is 2 years older and could get a contract that is significantly bigger. You'd be foolish to replace Murton with him, unless Matt is needed to get a stud like Cabrera. And the defensive questions (who plays right) just add to the problem. CLee should be an AL player. Reports are he's gaining weight and eating himself into a DH role.
  2. You enjoy seeing people humiliated? It depends who?
  3. I just don't see it. They are going to want zambrano. Maybe a Hill\Pie combo? I don't know.
  4. I agree with respect to the GM, but not the ownership. The problem isn't the amount of money the Trib is willing to spend, but rather how Hendry uses it. I agree. Other teams win with a payroll far less then ours.
  5. I know that you know this already, but Jim has essentially put himself in a spot where he has to acquire THREE top tier hitters and two good starters. Forget it. We'd be lucky to get one of those top tier players let alone three of them?
  6. About the only way to deal with this team right now.
  7. Didn't Huff have all kinds of problems with Lou in Tampa?
  8. Funny. Remember that when we're watching Geoff Blum hustle his way to hitting .263 with 11 HR's next year for a 69-93 team. OMG, you're right, now that I think about it I am afraid the Cubs could go 66 - 96 and finish with the worst record in the NL without ARAM! Oh wait... I would like to have ARam back, but just like the hated Juan Pierre he did nothing when the Cubs needed him last year. His stats were built up in garbage time when the team was hopelessly out of contention. It would still be nice to sign him because it is one less hole to fill, but if not then take the money and try something new. I guess Derrek Lee's 2005 stats meant nothing, either. We finished below .500. Did Ramirez vanish when his team needed him the most in October of 2003 or September of 2004? No? Were his stats those years built up in garbage time? How about his 2005 numbers? No? Whoops. There goes your argument. It's a stupid statement based on nothing but what the Chicago media shoves down your throat.
  9. From Miami Daily Herald. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/15991908.htm The problem is we don't have a farm to empty.
  10. So true! Soriano or any other FA are going to command 6-7 year deals. This offseason is looking to be a major faluire. We are basically a expansion team...I hate Hendry and the entire Cubs Org. What a bunch of small market thinkers. World Series my ass McDonough!!!!
  11. From the Cubs? Yes. Dont kid yourself for all intent of purposes Ram is gone. If you couldn't make a deal in the window that just passed, what makes you think we can make one now? He will get higher offers from other teams and he'll take one of those offers... The team is a joke.
  12. Nothing there to kick. Dig, dig, dig! The post of the day!
  13. Good job by Hendry and the Cubs botching this up big time. What a bunch of amatures. The Baseball world, yet again, laughs at this stinkin' team!
  14. The Cubs have stood firm on their principles, and as a result have not gotten a premium free agent in Lord knows how long? 15 years? 20? Probably haven't signed a true top notch guy since Hawk. So yes, 20 yrs. And the only reason we got Hawk was because he basically forced his way on the Cubs by the famous "blank check".
  15. MY friend just heard that Buster Onley said that the Red Sox won the bid for MATSUZAKA!
  16. Let's not hit the panic button just yet...
  17. DEPAUL TOMORROW!!! CANT WAIT! It's good to see Depaul's recuiting class is in the top 10 on most publications.
  18. I'm with you! Go to my local pub, drink into a drunked stupor, and convince myself we are going to the World Series. Perhaps a little bar-room brawl with some Sox and/or Cardinals fans who can't shut their trap; to top of the wonderful night. Yep - Typical weekend night for me....
  19. You have to pay him top ten money because someone else will. If every player was a FA every year, you could make that argument more easily. But that isn't the case. Right now, a lot of teams have money to spend and there aren't a lot of players out there worth that money. Guys are going to get overpaid. Ramirez will make the money. If the Cubs don't pay him someone will. Furthermore, if the Cubs let Ramirez walk, there isn't really a feasable way to make this team a contender for 2007. If that's ok with the Cubs, they should let him walk. Sometimes you have to overpay to get what you need. Very true. Sometimes you have to over pay.
  20. I'm going out on a bigger limb and say the Cubs were in the top 4 for bidding. So as usual, we will have bid just enough to lose but say we tried? Did you expect anything more? When was the last time we roped in a top tier FA that wasn't our own? I'm thinking Andre Dawson? And that was only because Dawson gave them a blank check.
