  1. That would be amazing! Z Schmidt Hill Westbrook (hopefully) Prior\and whomever else...
  2. How about: 1) Aramis eats himself off third base, but we can't move him to 1B because Derrek is already there 2) The pitching doesn't come through 3) We don't win the WS even though Soriano breaks through to a 1.00+ level of OPS What I was really saying is if we win the WS it is a good signing if not it is going to be a bad signing. I really think it boils down to that. The money is too much for the talent. The only justification is we win the World Series. If we win the World Series, it won't be because we signed Soriano. He's not a good enough player to take a 66 win team and turn them into WS champions. He might contribute, though, and I guess that's what you're saying. Don't forget getting a healthy DLEE back will be nice also.
  3. Kap and Waddle just said about a week or two ago Soriano sat down with his family and had the choice of six teams which had interest in him and Cubs were dead last on his list. He wasn't sold on the Cubs. Hendry called his agent and said promise me I'll at least get a chance to talk to him. Hendry had a meeting with him that lastest 3 hours and Hendry sold Soriano on coming to Chicago.
  4. It's offical! Welcome to Chi-Town! http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061120&content_id=1743683&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  5. In 25AB: .360 .407 .840 1.247 Not bad at all...
  6. And in the nat'l league that might be enough.
  7. I don't even think thier lineup was all that killer either.
  8. Why? Just go back about 30 pages or so and read from there... Too lazy. I'll take your word for it...
  9. Everything in the paper points to him playing CF. Everything coming out of Bruce Miles and Lou Piniella says he's in right field. Right-Field? Is Jones going to CF then?
  10. We don't have 37 million left, we have 15-20 million. I wouldn't expect anything more for the offense through free agency except for one 4th outfielder. It looks like they are going after pitching now. I'm assuming the offense is done. On to the pitching. Are you kidding me? This offense is still only half baked. DeRosa, Izturis, and who in CF? All signs point to Jacque being traded. As of right now, we've got five guys with above average production for their positions in Lee, Aramis, Soriano, Barrett, and Murton... DeRosa is going to be slightly below average... Izturis is an offensive black hole... there's nobody in CF... and we have the pitcher's slot. I wouldn't exactly call us an offensive juggernaunt. We might not even end up being above average... No I'm not kidding you. It may be "Half Baked" but whose isn't in the NL? Get pitching!

  12. I woke up from a drunken stupor this morning and I had to check the websites just to make sure it really happened yesterday. Wayyyy too many beers and shots before, during, after, and everything in between during the Bears game.
  13. I'm not sure if a couple of years from now this contract looks better then it does now. I also think he's going to age well.
  14. I think what people are saying is that Matt Murton improved from the first half to the second half. Which means he's making progress and should continue to progress. Since last year was his first full major league season it'll be interesting to see how he fares next year. i am in favor of murton starting for us but if we get lee for example i will not complain, we need impact bats and right now lee is one, 3 years from now he might not be but he is now. i want to win now so i don't really care about the payroll, the cubs can spend with the best of them so we shouldn't have to worry about payroll problems too much in the future. I'd rather have Drew or Soriano more then Lee. I have a feeling in a year or two he's going to eat himself into a DH.

  16. In another thread--maybe the rotoworld rumors thread, not sure--there was talk about Murton possibly being used in drawing Westbrook from Cleveland. If they're shopping Murton as trade bait, then we'll likely end up settling for Soriano/Drew/Jones. Well first get Drew and Soriano signed.
  17. Hoops, get on this- i mean, do you realize how important you are to all of us this time of year- GET ON THE HORN and get some info:)- Seriously though, you are hearing 2 and 30M? i would be open to that deal with an option year tacked on- It does appear that the Cubs are very active in this Drew bidding. I too would much prefer him over Soriano, if forced to choose. I'd offer 3 years and $40 million - $12M, $13M and $14M with a $15M option, which can automatically vest with an appropriate amount of games played in 2009 or a $1M buyout. Why monkey around. 3/45 and be done with it...Scotty B is going to drag this one out a bit.
  18. I really like the 2/30 million dollar contract. I'd even go 3/45. It beats the 6/96 for Soriano.
  19. True, but the problem is when you avoid everyone you don't have a chance to win or flop.
  20. I think the point is, the Cubs are desperate. And the only thing they have going for them is their cash. Soriano at a huge deal isn't ideal. He's not as good as the true elites that make the big bucks, but the Cubs already missed out on most of those guys. They need some offense. And if you're going to overpay, you might as well overpay for somebody who at least has a chance to put up some great seasons. Riding on your coat-tails, it's kinda funny that the Cubs chose this year to spend big bucks when the market is so thin. They couldn't do it when Beltran and Vlad was out there...Only the Cubs!
  21. Beat the Cubbie passion into them Lou!
  22. I'm just hoping we at least get 1 of them...
  23. In the second half he really had a bad August and Sept. He pitched 10 innings in that stretch and had a era of around 17! Which pretty much killed his season.
