  1. Take the number of innings pitched and divide by the number of starts. Thanks for his career its around 5.8 per start. Hmmm...That should spike up a bit for the NL. Then again, AL pitchers don't get pulled for pinch hitters. If he's giving up as many runs as he normally does, the Cubs might want to go to pinch hitters early, since their regular lineup, as currently constructed, isn't going to be bashing people on a regular basis. Good point.
  2. Carlos Lee will make more in his career then junior.

  4. Where can I find the stat of the "average innings pitched per start" of Lilly?
  5. :wall: It's upsetting to me if they didn't pursue him (extensively). Maybe Schmidt told Hendry he had no interest no matter what, but I find that hard to believe. I'm sure if he had interest in coming here he would've been a Cub. Kap said last night that no team would've outbidded us for Schimdt. He just didn't want to come here. Don't beat yourself up over this. Can't force players to come here.
  6. And it's not the Cards. No way the Cards offer him 17 million.
  7. He's got spunk, I suppose that's something. What pitchers don't have shoulder problems. Most pitch through them. Did you hear that PRIOR!!!! You're right. Just thought I would point out the trend. The fact that he beat the crap out of his manager after his desire was questioned is also interesting 8-) So him and Z will make quite the fiery combo.

  9. Yeah, I heard that Hendry, (sweet) Lou, and Soriano were recruiting him.
  10. I honestly don't think anyone does. I don't understand the point in signing Meche?
  11. Ken has been on the ball this year. He's scooped just about everyone this year.
  12. I pray Prior and Miller come to ST healthy, Guzman wins the 5th starter job and we then have a 10m Glendon Rusch sitting on the end of the bench. I really don't want Gooz anywhere near the starting rotation. It would benefit him to be a long\swing man. Like the Sox did with McCarthy. He's just showing signs of being healthy, no reason to throw into the rotation.
  13. I pray that Prior comes to spring Healthy. Man, that would make all the difference in the world with this staff.
  14. Hope they take him up on it. If we miss Lilly AND Meche, what does that mean for us? (And don't just grumble Marquis, I am sincerely curious) It basically means Prior, Guzman, Marshall, Miller or trades...
  15. I don't know about where he wants to play. But the Cubs.com article had this quip: "He likes to hit," O'Brien said. "Jim Hendry was saying, 'Tell Ted, we're still not finished. We're going to go out and get a good left-handed bat.' And Ted said, 'Why? You've got me.' He likes to think he can hit." I'm not sure a guy talks like that, "You've got me" if he's not really wanting to pitch there. Maybe that's a stretch, but I think the Cubs might be offering the most money/years, and he likes that. NY has been offering guys 1 or 2 years so far. Hmmmmm....Good catch Goon.
  16. He signs with the Yankees. No doubt in my mind...
  17. i've read that lilly has told friends he wanted to go back to the yankees so who knows if the cubs can do much besides drive up the price. The Yankees worry me tremendously. If they put an offer close to ours, I'd think he'll take it. I'm not nearly as optimistic about our chances of snagging Lilly as I was before I knew the Yankees were involved. My gut tells me he's a Yankee by tomorrow morning. His agent says he meeting with the Yanks today, which tells me Lilly is saying you have one more shot to sign me or else I'm a Cub. To me, it would be no great loss. Guzman is likely to put up similar numbers to what Lilly would anyway. Lilly is about to get #2 money to post #4 or #5 numbers. Id rather we didnt waste the money. I can't speak for Hendry, but I'm absolutely not comfortable making that assumption. We don't know if Guzman can stay healthy, and we don't know if he can produce like Lilly has. Gooz has never ever pitched over 100 innings. Ever. And some of you expect him to be a starter next year? Huh?

That's if Guzman can stay healthy, and that is a huge IF. I'd rather use Guzman as a long\swing man. Build up his arm strenth another year. I can't see him pitching 180-200 innings.

  20. Haha, I wonder who has a better chance to win a World Series? The team with a $200M payroll, 26 titles and 12 straight playoff appearances, or the team with incompetent management, 98 years since the last WS victory, and the 3rd worst record in baseball last year? It's the team that throws in the extra million.
  21. I agree with you. I can't imagine another year of Z, Hill and whomever is the flavor of the week to fill out the rotation.
