  1. This man is influencing your draft this year. http://bp0.blogger.com/_mfj64qYaDZA/SCYQYYn_heI/AAAAAAAAAI0/9YEfBheQMrs/s1600-h/20050605pdwarroom0531a_450.jpg
  2. Your first assumption is incorrect. They have a popular product which today makes them profitable. When revenue sharing started in the NFL, the TV contracts were nothing like they are today. Revenue sharing made them more profitable at first. Today, revenue in the NFL, for the most part, is irrespective of profit sharing. So, I don't think it helps make them profitable, per se. Watch for the owners of the higher revenue teams to try and keep a bit more of their money with the new contract negotiations. One other thing: The primary TV contracts of the NFL are national. In MLB, they are local. National TV contracts are easier to divide up in profit sharing. (This is not an accounting issue.)
  3. I don't see the players union giving up the DH for an extra player on the roster. Too many old players have made too much money extending their careers as DHs. Aggregate Salary will fall. Actually, I don't see the players union giving up the DH for anything.
  4. There's actually a lot more there than you think. One place it's missing is the starting rotation. While Dike and Mahalom are better than last year, Snell and Gorz have been awful, and Duke and Mahalom haven't been better enough to make up the difference. All else being equal, better starting pitching could easily have had us taking this past series. And better starting pitching could easily have had us sweeping the series. In one game, yes. In general, though, you have good starting pitching. Zambrano (who was the one started we beat) and Dempster are both having good years. No starter on our staff is having a good year. If either Gorzo or Snell pitched as well as they did last year (Not both, just one), we'd be over .500 now. If both did, we'd be knocking at your door.
  5. Actually, Jack's playing. I wonder how many games his replacements have booted away. Also, remember Bixler freezing at third base in the bottom of the 9th in one of the Cubs/Pirates games at PNC park. Oh, his .260 average would be a hell of a lot better than what his replacements have done, too.

  7. On page two of Sunday's game thread, I mentioned the Pirates had some Cockiness to them. viewtopic.php?f=26&t=48580&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=25 I was wrong. As pointed out here: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08140/883128-63.stm This is why we're still under .500, and still not able to beat the Cubs. Hopefully, someone will develop an attitude soon.
  8. Good morning, Ladies and gentlemen. A fine game yesterday. Ya see, this Pirates team is getting that attitude, that they can win. And, you guys are throwing Marquis today. Even Joggin' Ronny Paulino got a hit yesterday. The Pirates are going to come in cocky today. And, I think, they're going to back it up. Let's Go Bucs! =D> =D>
  9. See ya in a couple of innings, folks, when we start to mount our comeback. I should do some work instead of torturing myself with this.
  10. fixed You wouldn't be saying this if you saw his numbers.
  11. He's been there quite a few times. Played it very well yesterday. I'm not talking about his glove, but he's a useless hitter playing at a corner infield spot. It's just sad. That's Cause Bautista sucks.

  13. Dave Littelfield was fired. I get the average, but firing Littlefield allowed him to hit homers at a Derrek Lee pace? Firing Littelfield let him play, which led to the HRs.. Seriously? I expected about 20 - 25 from him this year. Not 40. No idea. Really, did he show signs of hitting 25 a year while playing in the minors? I just remember knowing he always put up good minor league avg. and secondary avg. numbers, but never remember hearing or reading he would devleop into Grady Sizemore. Now with McCutheon on the way you guys have a nice problem to have. Yeah, he did. I don't remember the specifics. But, I remember reading stuff like that.

  15. Was that almosta HR by Nate ? (I'm "watching" on gameday)
  16. So, with us throwing three lefties at you guys, we won't see edmonds this series?
  17. Looks like someone started drinking a bit early today. I'd like to be drinking earlier today than I will be.
