  1. You guys deserve to lose just because I had to look at steve stone naked. :-&
  2. Post Gazette is reporting Marmol is out today and tomorrow, with his wife due.
  3. Greetings and Salutations! I bring you this years Jeckly & Hyde Pirates. First, to answer your Dumatrait questions - he was shut down late last year had had shoulder surgery. Still recovering. Maholm & Duke have been brilliant at times. (Check out Duke's ERA!) Snell has been inconsistent, and our offense has been inversely consistent when he's pitching. Ohlendorf is coming into his own. Looks like he's going to be very good, but he's not there yet. Andy LaRoche and Moss are starting to get hot. Nyger Morgan is exceeding anyone's wildest dreams about the season he'd have. Freddy is being Freddy. But, the offense gets maddingly quiet for spurts. Gonna be interesting tonight to see which Pirate team show up.
  4. Rule V. We want to hold on to him. And, as long as our starters are, for the most part, going 6 or 7 a night, we can afford to hide him. (It's when they don't that he gets to pitch!)
  5. For you guys who like to keep up on ex-cubs.... http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09132/969448-63.stm
  6. I sometimes wonder if Boras pushed Lowe towards the Braves, knowing the Mets would throw crazy money to Perez in desperation after losing out on Lowe. As Desperate as the Mets were, the money was still insane. They were bidding against themselves for Perez.
  7. Lets go for a lefty reliever. gotta get out those lefties late in the game. Good to see the fans accepting their inner Dave Littlefield!

Because the doom and gloom predictions of the team are such that, even if we're leading in stats of anything after one game, it would be significantly better that the prognostications of our team! That a team with our prognostications leads over any two week period, be it the first two weeks, the last two, or any two weeks in between is worth noting. :-)

Actually, it was Carl Pavano's fault. It wasn't just that he was hurt a lot. It was that he didn't work hard in rehab. Then there was that car accident he kept to himself. I'm sure there was other stuff. His team mates were calling him out in the papers. How does that make it his fault? The Yankees brass didn't evaluate his work ethic properly before they offered him that absurd deal. Yankee Brass has nothing to do with Carl Pavano getting da boo. His own attitude and work ethic got it for him. Whether the powers that be in the bronx knew doesn't matter.

They're going to have to be very good to draw at the beginning of the season. The Pens had a nice run to end the season. The Steelers... Pitt Basketball did very well. After all that, It's going to take a LOT to get people to come see a team that many have predicted break the record for consecutive losing seasons.

This clearly includes the home town fans. Oh, note, too that the game was held up by rain. And, even though they were off last night, I'm sure the Pens series had an effect, too.

Anyone notice who's leading the NL in ERA this morning ? Maybe those guys don't suck as badly as some make 'em out to.
  15. Cruz was sent down. Not sure about Andy L option - i think he's out. Monroe is safe because we lack right handed hitting outfielders on the team. ETA: Andy LaRoche has a long rope by virtue of being one of the pieces acquired in the J Bay trade. As does Hansen (who is also out of options.)
  16. Craig Monroe would be a good choice. They've only got around 20 or so good choices. Name them, and explain to me why they should go over Delwyn Young.
  17. From Dodgers. Wonder what this means. He's a guy we tried to get during the Jack Wilson negotiations. Probably be a utility guy. We need to put him on the 25 man roster as he's out of options. Wonder who will go. http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090415&content_id=4275936&vkey=news_pit&fext=.jsp&c_id=pit
  18. I was wrong. Meek was sent down this morning and Jesse Chavez (He of the 11 ERA this spring) made the team. Did we get Littlefield back from you guys?
  19. ARGH! Beaten by the hated manatees! We'll have our revenge next year!!!
  20. Mostly, last year, he was used in mop-up situations. But, no matter when he entered the game, it was ugly (at least from where I was sitting!) Meek, who was not quite ready for prime time was eventually fully acquired from the Rays for cash. We were able to send him down - AA at first then AAA where he put together some good numbers. He had a good spring and has made the club. Last year, he was a doe in the headlights while with the big club. The reports are he looks a lot calmer this year and has been throwing the ball very well.
  21. It's official, as it is for Hansen too. Suggestion to teams playing us: Extra padding when coming to bat later in the game.
  22. Looks like he made the Pirates! There's one cut left, coming from the Bullpen. So, it's not really a done deal yet. But, this morning's PG says the last cut is probably down to Even Meek or Jesse Chavez, meaning Veal made the team. Also, keep in mind, that Huntington is not happy and is looking for help there. He got Yates last year. So, while Veal is safe for now, doesn't mean he'll still be here in 2 weeks. posting.php?mode=post&f=6
  23. Funny how that looks totally out of context!
  24. Keppinger was in our system, and went to the Mets in the Kris Benson trade. He was rising very fast. Then, tore his ACL when a runner slid into him and was never the same.
