  1. Maddux stats - Chicago 22 starts; 4.69 ERA; 13.4 VORP Dodgers 12 starts; 3.30 ERA; 18.3 VORP
  2. Right behing the Cubs with the 13th worst BA w/RISP are the Phillies who lead the league in runs scored, and oh yeah, have a 25 point higher OBP.
  3. The Indians have scored 81 more runs than they've allowed (776/695). They "should" be a better team. When adjusted for strength of schedule and predicted runs, they would be the wild card leader in the AL. They are currently more than 11 wins worse than their play would suggest they would be. The disappointment may have more to do with luck than performance. It's a problem I wish the Cubs had.
  4. Link "[Lee] wasn't available," Baker said. "His hand is sore. He should be OK [on Monday], but he was in the trainer's room and said he needed a [day off] bad. So no matter what, we had to give it to him." Lee said after the game his hand was no more sore than usual. But he conceded he'd asked Baker for a real day off. "I needed a full day," Lee said. "I'd pinch-hit every other time I had an off-day. Originally, I was going to play two days and then have an off-day, which is fine, but it's never worked out that way." PLEASE STOP PLAYING THE FRANCHISE FOR A LOST CAUSE.
  5. Higher career OPS - Murton or Aramis? Murton - .823 Ramirez - .820
  6. On Lee's homerun, did it appear that the camera angle was VERY narrow to avoid the empty seats?
  7. Fun with PECOTA: 2007 VORP predictions from ’06 PECOTA 1. Gary Matthews Jr. CF (age 32, 5.7 VORP) 2. Ray Durham 2B (age 35, 19.5 VORP) 3. Derrek Lee 1B (age 31, 40.3 VORP) 4. Gary Sheffield RF (age 38, 34.8 VORP) 5. Michael Barrett C (age 30, 13.3 VORP) 6. Mike Lowell 3B (age 33, 12.4 VORP) 7. Jacque Jones LF (age 32, 6.1 VORP) 8. Cesar Izturis SS (age 27, 6.3 VORP) Total projected 2007 VORP above: 138.4 Last year's 2006 projection: 164.9 VORP (Pierre, Walker, Lee, Aramis, Jones, Murton , Barrett, Cedeno) In theory, the offense of team Sullivan is 2.5 wins worse than this year's lineup was supposed to be. However, it may be better than the current 2006 team VORP (all players) of 93.8, currently good for 26/30 in the league.
  8. Was it Will Carroll? He appears on Wednesdays at 7pm on WGN with the Sports Central guys.
  9. 2006 VORP as Cubs: Mabry -7.5; Neifi -7.3; Hairston -6.0 That's a combined 2 losses contributed by 3 bench players...
  10. Phil Rogers comes through with the stats from those in the know... "I think losing Lee for three months—a nice round number—would cost the Cubs roughly three or four games," Neyer said. "Five tops."
  11. Cedeno's offense, at a defensive position, is currently a cumulative 8th worst in baseball (VORP -13.3; #917/924 players).
  12. Per Baseball Prospectus odds: Cubs chance for postseason: 0.114% As mentioned above, the sad fact is that the NL is so weak: Average # of wins to take the NL Central: 86 Average # of wins to take the NL Wild Card: 84.5
  13. Team Ranking of Total Pitcher Abuse Points during Dusty's "legacy": 1993 - SFN #28 1994 - SFN #28 1995 - SFN #22 1996 - SFN #21 1997 - SFN #9 1998 - SFN #27 1999 - SFN #2 2000 - SFN #1 2001 - SFN #3 2002 - SFN #1 (CHN #9) 2003 - CHN #1 (SFN #13) 2004 - CHN #4 (SFN #2) 2005 - CHN #2 (SFN #3) Dusty's clubs have finished in the top 4 in pitcher abuse points for the past 7 years.
  14. Pitcher Abuse Points refers to PAP^3, which assigns 0 PAP to a start in which the pitcher throws 100 or fewer pitches and (PC-100)^3 PAP for all other starts.
  15. Livan "150 Pitches" Hernandez was #1 last year, right? Livan has lead the league from 2004-2006.
  16. MLB Pitcher abuse rankings: 2003 - Zambrano #11 2004 - Zambrano #3 2005 - Zambrano #2 2006 - Zambrano #3 (before tonight)
  17. Here's how PECOTA weighs in from preseason this year... Cedeno Year OWARP, DWARP (total WARP), mean VORP 2007 0.7,2.5 (3.2) 13.5 VORP 2008 0.9,2.4 (3.3) 16.2 VORP 2009 1.0,2.1 (3.2) 16.9 VORP 2010 1.1,2.3 (3.4) 18.1 VORP Izturis Year OWARP, DWARP (total WARP), mean VORP 2007 0.0,3.4 (3.3) 6.3 VORP 2008 0.0,3.0 (2.8 ) 4.5 VORP 2009 0.0,2.9 (2.9) 6.1 VORP 2010 -0.2,2.2 (2.0) 2.5 VORP Next year's a tie, then Cedeno is a tick better every year in WARP. Start adding salary to the mix and there is no contest. The only problem is that Ronny is already far underproducing his projections and may not achieve even the modest numbers above...
  18. Is there a serious analyst out there not panning Hendry for this deal?
  19. Let's buy some good young players and a manager that knows how to use them.
  20. I haven't looked into Todd's 2 year splits.
  21. What happened? Maddux threw a pitch to Nady and either motioned for the trainer or the trainer came out on his own. Either way, everyone examined him and he decided to stay in. There goes his trade value?
