  1. There's no denying the great Mike Rivera.
  2. Gagne has given up 23 runs in just under 30 innings... here's hoping he keeps getting run out there in close games.
  3. Does Gaudin pitch every single day, or does it just seem that way?
  4. You mean I may need to root for Valverde tonight? I'll try to bring myself to do so.
  5. Darn, those are the next 4 in my back yard! I was going to go just for Vitters :(
  6. Lou likes to tempt fate - irresponsible - hopefully the new owners have a say in how commodities are treated.
  7. Wow was the resurrected season short...
  8. In other news CC is about to throw his 3rd consecutive CG for a win.
  9. Nate Silver of BP: David Pinto of Baseball Musings:
  10. You can chat with Will soon at 2pm CDT / noon PDT. Chat link
  11. Just a toss in line from today's Under the Knife, but... hopefully this is better than it looks...
  12. Brewers. With Gallardo out, the Crew needs a No. 2 starter. If they get one they will be a close(er) second at the end of the year.
  13. Yep. The Cardinals are outperforming their predicted adjusted record by 5.7 wins and 'should be' a .500 team. Though, the Cubs are also a bit 'lucky' and should be 3.3 games worse than they currently are. The whole NL Central is outplaying its numbers. NL Central Current Predicted Standings w/ (AE)RS/(AE)RA (above/below actual record difference) Cubs 46-29 (+3.3) Cardinals 38-38 (+5.7) Brewers 37-37 (+2.7) Reds 35-41 (0.0) Astros 34-41 (+0.5) Pirates 30-45 (+5.8)
  14. Here are BP's Adjusted Equivalent run differentials. These may add a bit more objectivity for how runs are scored and against (and by) whom. Equivalent runs scored and equivalent runs allowed (equivalent runs, generated from the opponent's batting line) adjusted for strength of schedule. The Cubs are tops in the NL, well ahead in the division, and 3rd in baseball (behind Boston and Tampa Bay). NL East Braves 32 Phillies 31 Mets 12 Marlins -12 Nationals -107 NL Central Cubs 61 Cardinals 3 Brewers 3 Reds -28 Astros -39 Pirates -39 NL West Diamondbacks 14 Dodgers -4 Rockies -16 Giants -29 Padres -46 AL East Red_Sox 107 Rays 84 Yankees 37 Blue_Jays 30 Orioles -1 AL Central White_Sox 54 Tigers 9 Indians -22 Royals -31 Twins -48 AL West Athletics 50 Angels 6 Rangers -10 Mariners -64
  15. The estimate is $1M lost for 15days of Z.
  16. Not to say I told you so, because I pray I'm wrong, but...
  17. A bit of research reveals that MRA (vs. MRI) is more sensitive for the diagnosis of labrum and rotator cuff injury. (Thanks to Will Carroll for confirming the sensitivity question.) Hopefully this is just extreme caution, but you wonder if the exam revealed something more likely to involve the above issues rather than something like tendonitis.
  18. I'm not sure if this means something less ordinary is going on...
  19. Am I the only one who continues to believe the Brewers are still very in this thing?
  20. they are hardly a better team, just much much luckier. if they think that their luck will luck them into the playoffs, they've got another thing coming. The Cubs record is 45-26 (Pytagorean record is 46-25), whereas the Rays record is 41-29 (and their Pythagorean record is 38-32), so yeah, the Rays have been slightly more lucky then the Cubs. But I could see the Cubs pull this game out of their butts. If you use BP's adjustments for components of runs and strength of opponents the Cubs are +3.6 games "lucky" and the Ray 2 games under their supposed record. They are 2 games 'better' in the tougher league to date.
