  1. Our A line-up is looking horrid today.
  2. OK, I'm done littering the page with Seinfeld-esque stories about nothing... after this post.
  3. Bleed Cubbie Blue also reports that its sources debunked the SunTimes report of Ceda's current inclusion in a Roberts deal.
  4. This is typical of Dempster. He's a walking machine. I never understood why they wanted him to start any way, back when they tried it (I think in 2005) he was terrible at it. Good thing we have depth there though. well, i agree. i haven't been a big supporter of him in this role from the start, but he had a couple of nice outings before this. i just don't know where you put him. i guess that he could be a middle reliever. i know that money should play a role in the decision as it is a sunk cost at this point, but it'd suck to have 5 million (i know i know, not my money) tied up in some middle relief guy. and if that is where he would go, i would almost rather give a young guy a shot. i say this while liking dempster himself, but i worry about him and although i have no idea, i almost wonder if marshall doesn't end up getting that 5th spot when we're going down the stretch yet. he is capable of the best of the bunch, probably. I think Dempster is in limbo. Lou doesn't trust him as a closer and we all know he will fail as a starter. I think when the season ends we will see Demp in middle relief or traded to another team. They should have traded him before his shiny "closer" label got tarnished.
  5. Cintron hit in the face on deck by a foul ball - walks off field, no word on injury.
  6. Fuld described with a another nice catch at the wall in center. Is it wrong of me to be rooting against him doing good things so as not to hoodwink Piniella into ditching Pie?
  7. Leaving Theriot as a leadoff guy over the 7/8th hitter spot that his hitting skills demand gives nearly 100 more PA to an offensive sinkhole.
  8. It's a shame Fukudome couldn't hold onto the 2-spot for more than 3 games... Theriot getting more PA is a bad, bad move.
  9. Coming in late, but does the line-up mean the Fukudome 2nd experiment has ended?
  10. I can't find other defensive metrics that are sorted by position. Derosa's overall numbers are skewed since he plays so many positions. BP's Davenport Translations have both DeRosa and Roberts at average (+1 run) for last year and similar for their career. David Pinto's Probabilistic Model of Range for 2007 has DeRosa near the bottom of the list at 95% of average and Roberts at average.
  11. Down to the cleanup spot? Wow!
  12. Thankfully we are spared more articles like this.
  13. Gammons still believes, even after he previously called that this would be done the weekend after the Bedard/Jones trade.
  14. If the Cubs indeed trade for an everyday CF, it is because the Cubs do not believe Pie will ever live up to his potential and that he is only a 4th OF. If that is their opinion, there is no reason to not trade Pie to a team that believes in his promise. I think the Cubs are wrong on this account, but it is the only sense I can make of the issue. What benefit is there of holding a place for Pie and letting him kill AAA pitching again? Why are the Red Sox content to go with Ellsbury over Crisp? Because they are a smarter organization. 23y/o Pie in 430 PA: .284/.339/.470 http://www.baseballprospectus.com/pecota/images/piefe01_005.pnghttp://www.baseballprospectus.com/pecota/images/piefe01_010.png 28y/o Crisp in 550 PA: .271/.335/.415 http://www.baseballprospectus.com/pecota/images/crispco01_005.pnghttp://www.baseballprospectus.com/pecota/images/crispco01_010.png While unloading Marquis is a plus, Crisp is 5 years older, much more expensive and not enough of an upgrade to block your long-standing #1 prospect.
  15. I think the reduced PA by lower order hitters is the key here. So Theriot/SS moving from 2nd to 7th 'saves' ~80 PA over a season from a terrible hitter. I think it's also handy to know the 17PA/slot difference.
