  1. People in Iowa don't have a lot to hold on to sports-wise, so they take it where they can get it. Hey, now! Step-off! I didn't vote for either of them. Of course, I'm an Illini fan that happens to live in Iowa. Well, you're in a select minority. Where in Iowa, btw? Eldora, I'm about 30 miles west of Waterloo Well, I am also a huge Illini fan, and spent most of my life in eastern Iowa, so I know how it is. Yeah, I get along with all the Iowa State fans................they hate the Hawkeyes too. I don't have to argue about the Cubs quite as much as I did when I was gowing up in Illinois w/ Card fans. Are you guys over Bruce Pearl yet? Figured Kelvin Sampson would make you forget about him.
  2. Tony Dungy should just get on the phone and thank Kirk Ferentz for making Bob Sanders/Dallas Clark. Both guys weren't recruited at all when they left college, and Ferentz took both of them, and look what he turned them into.
  3. Prior says he's ready for 2007 and Spring Training.. Great news. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2737285
  4. According to Rotoworld: A source told USA TODAY that a Randy Johnson deal between the Yankees and Diamondbacks will get done this week. The Yankees are reportedly set to get three players -- a major league reliever and two pitching prospects -- so it looks like they'll be paying a substantial portion of the $16 million that Johnson was owed. It was previously reported the Diamondbacks would have to give up just the two prospects if they were going to pay all or nearly all of Johnson's salary. The reliever the Yankees are getting is probably Brandon Medders, though Luis Vizcaino has also been mentioned. Dustin Nippert, Ross Ohlendorf and Micah Owings were the prospects most frequently coming up in talks. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al/yankees/2007-01-02-johnson-trade_x.htm
  5. I think people are stupid and blind to believe that all all-stars are roid-free, or a majority of them are.
  6. I'm not going to read through the whole thread, but Schilling has already said this year is his last year if i recall right.
  7. You keep saying that and you keep failing to provide anything other than your opinion. Do you have anything concrete or even anecdotal to back that up? If not, fire away, be my guest, but don't expect anyone with even half a head on their shoulders to agree with you. umm...my argument that hendry doesn't have a thing for hill is based on a lack of him saying or doing things to indicate support of hill. therefore, it's kinda hard for me to point to his non-existent quotes of support. since your claim is that he does support/like hill, you should be able to point to quotes or actions indicating such. but as you said, you're not a librarian. I think it was last year with Hill that Hendry could have netted Soriano from Texas for Hill, and said no. Not sure if that deal was true or not.
  8. I guess you guys found out how stupid Hendry really is, considering he hasn't really overpaid too much for pitching. Hope Hendry can get a deal done for Jennings though.
  9. Since Schmidt is off the market, hopefully we can get Meche and Lilly. Just get us some damn pitchers.
  10. Well Yahoo Sports is saying.. I thought Gonzalez was going to the Cardinals?
  11. He better have topped 10/11 million for Schmidt. No reason not to. Jim, get it done.
  12. I've always thought Marmol has the stuff to make it, but that's just me. I would value him. I always didn't think he pitched that bad last year besides the walks. The walks, it seemed, were always in bunches, and always led to a lot of runs. If he can somehow cut down on walking people, I think he can be a pretty effective 4/5.
  13. If true, does this mean we aren't getting Lilly with his contract demands right now?
  14. Am I the only one here that thinks it's good to be getting rid of Jacque after having a career year? I don't see him repeating last year, but that's just me.
  15. i agree... i would love this... but DEFENSE??? By some metrics, Bonds was a better than average fielder last year. He was certainly better than Carlos Lee, and no one in Houston is upset about Lee's defense (yet). I dont see Lee struggling to play defense that much with that short fence in LF. Until balls start hitting the fence in that short porch.
  16. Just curious. While hurt last year.. .270 /.454 /.545 /.999 26 hrs, 77 rbis I don't understand why people don't want him besides that he's going to probably break a record, and he's the "steroid" guy. Oh yeah, I forgot about the clubhouse cancer. Might be a liability in left, but man, would that be another huge boost to the offense, and make our offense one of the best, if not the best, in the National League.
  17. Last year, ITI said the Cubs were signing Furcal and trading for Soriano. They all but guaranteed it. At least, they only missed Soriano by a year. Couple of years, they also said the Cubs were signing Pudge.
  18. I thought everyone basically assumed that Suppan is headed to the Yankees. Not sure about the other two though.
  19. Here's the latest from the Tribune in the Soriano article.
  20. According to Ken Rosenthal from Fox Sports. 8 years, 135 million dollars. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6188248
  21. Instant replay has ruined football, don't make it ruin baseball.
  22. I asked the magic 8 ball if we had a shot, and it said no.
  23. Offensively, couldn't be any worse than last year. Defensively, that might be a different story.
