  1. I think you're giving Girardi a little too much credit. Miguel Cabrera, Hanley Ramirez, Dan Uggla, Josh Willingham, Mike Jacobs, and Jeremy Hermida were good long before Joe Girardi got ahold of them. I think it's impressive what's going on in Florida this year but they have some really good young talent. Do you think with the same players, that Dusty Baker would be doing as well? Or do you think he'd have picked up players like Tony Womack or Phil Nevin to take over for one of the kids after they struggle for a week? Dusty Baker and Joe Girardi are in very different situations. It wasn't Dusty Baker who picked up Nevin and Womack it was our wonderful GM. Also when did Dusty replace a young kid after he struggled for a week? I'm not a Baker supporter by any means, but I really don't have too much of a problem with the way he's played the kids this year. The only major problem I have is his recent platoon of Murtin, and him not pitching Guzman while he was up.
  2. Tell that to Joe Girardi. The Marlins have good young players. The Marlins have young players they are teaching to be good. Big difference. We're busy tanking our younguns. 4. Wade Miller, CHC Jun. 4 - 9:34 am et Wade Miller (shoulder) has been shut down following a setback during his rehab process. Miller hasn't pitched since his May 27 start in extended spring training. The Cubs are hopeful he can resume throwing this week and potentially make another extended spring training start next week. It looks like he won't join the rotation until early July at best.
  5. There's nothing like hearing Pat carry on a conversation with Jackie Robinson's daughter while the game is on the line. On the other hand, it was funny hearing Ron let out his frustration over the double play while she was in the middle of speaking.

    pagan

they are bad! well, we could really use some energy, that said can pagan bring that well no but it could help having him in left field when murton has a day off than have hairston out there fouling pitches off his foot! we need a spark, some momentum, having a guy like pagan on your bench is a spark, well not a big but hes a guy the opposing manager/ players know they cant let a guy on in a close game cuz they have a good runner on the bench,,, well i went to far but he could help! :D I'll take Hairston anyday over Pagan.
  7. Speaking of rediculious. Before the season you wanted a quick fall from contention? Wow. Why is it ridiculous? I looked at the team and didn't see a contender, and the org. needs some housecleaning anyway so yeah, let's crash fast, take out the trash, and get ready for next year. Better that than some tragically halfassed darkhorse run this year. It's ridiculous to hope your team fails, especially before the the season even starts. Did you see a contender before the 2003 season? If not you must have wanted a quick fall from contention that year also. You must have been pretty dissapointed come mid October. I am sorry, but I just have to bring this up, it's ridiculous, not "ridiculous". That is all. I really wish someone would have pointed that out like 17 years ago. No telling how many times I've misspelled that word in my lifetime.

  10. I think that if the cubs felt Guzman couldn't give them 100 pitches they wouldn't have called him up. It's pretty rediculious to criticize Dusty for not pulling Guzman at the 90 pitch mark.
  11. I've gotten Wood before, but without much interaction. I just laughed out loud.
  12. I'd rather thank Williamson. He's a little more to blame than Dusty for this one.
  13. You're actually lucky compared to me. I live in Memphis and the Cardinals, Reds, and Braves games are all blacked out. It really sucks to have two NL Central opponents blacked out. The thing is St. Louis is like 5 hours from here and Cincinnati is probably 8 hours away. It makes no sense.
  14. I know there has been extensive research done on this, but I just find it hard to believe that batting order doesn't affect a game. How does Neifi possibly batting 5 times and Murton and Barrett possible batting 4 times not affect the game? How is Derrek Lee coming up with the bases empty the same as him coming up with a man on? Now maybe over the course of a season the numbers would tend to even out. But I'll never be convinced that the batting order does not affect a single game. I don't think anybody ever said it can't affect a single game. You could have a day when your 5, 6, 7 and 8 hitters get hot and score a bunch of runs together. You may not have scored that much if they were in a different order. The point is, Neifi shouldn't be anywhere in the lineup. The fact that he's probably going to bat 2nd doesn't piss me off nearly as much that he'll bat at all. Well I'm pissed about both decisions. It's just plain ignorance to put someone that can't get on base at the top of the lineup. Oh well, here's to hoping he has a great game.

  16. I could be completely wrong, but I thought I read in a thread the other day that Maddux gives up the most ground balls of all our starters. I remember being suprised because I thought for sure it would be Z.
  17. Yeah, you never see pitchers hurt a muscle in their shoulder. Ever. It's nigh impossible for a pitcher to strain a shoulder muscle. I mean, how could that even happen? Name me other pitchers that have been on the DL 4 or 5 times for strains and the like in 4 years. Prior's not on that list.
  18. Down 1 run in the 8th, I have enough confidence in Lee and Ramirez to pick out a good enough pitch to try and take deep. Nothing wrong with those at bats.
  19. Try accessing it from today's MLB scoreboard page. You may get the Reds audio but you can switch to the Cubs from there. That worked. I appreciate it.
  20. Is anyone else having problems getting on to MLB gameday audio? I'm getting yesterday's batch of games.
  21. Yeah, I'd tell them they can have Murton plus whatever three prospects they want for Cabrera.
  22. I might be way off on my impression of Pena, but I see a young Sammy Sosa without the speed. He just turned 24. He's never had more than a half season of at bats, yet he's had as many as 26 HR's in a season. A guy with that kind of power can K all he wants if he can hit 40+ HR's a year. Sammy had a horrible OBP when he was that age also. I disagree with that last statement. 200 k's and 40 walks would be pretty awful. I don't care how many HR's you hit. Especially if he's only going to hit around .250 for average. So, do the runs that score on the 40 homers count less because he struck out on other plays? The .250 average and the 40 walks are much larger concerns than the strikeouts in that scenario. No, as far as I know the runs would count the same.
  23. And you are an idiot. PERIOD! I will absolutely NOT blame Dusty Baker for this if it happens. That man gave all the opportunities in the world to Ronny Cedeno. He fricking GAVE him the job outright, and told him to relax. What does Ronny do? He lays eggs at the plate and commits 4 errors in the field in the spring! He doesn't deserve the job if he's going to commit errors like that. I want Ronny to succeed badly. Awesome skills, and a lot of potential. But I want to win too. And let's just get this straight now. NEIFI. PEREZ. IS. NOT. THAT. BAD! Now shut up and learn a little bit about baseball. Acutally, he is that bad.

Especially if he's only going to hit around .250 for average. When you have the OBP guys that Boston has, you can afford to have a guy like Pena in your line up. Once again, I must point out his age. He was 23 when he put up those numbers. Sammy Sosa had numbers just as bad minus the power when he was 23. The one big difference between Sammy and Willy Mo is, this is 2006 and not 1996. Pena probably won't get the same type of help that Sammy had. But I do see your comparison between the two. I just wouldn't want Pena anywhere near this team.
