  1. The only thing similar about UMass and Memphis is the coach who left. Memphis had success well before Cal arrived. I never said we wouldn't miss a beat without Cal, sure this next season is going to be challenging but there's a lot of talent still on the team. And like I mentioned, the major recruits still have Memphis on their list. There's still a very good chance the program can stay on an elite level. Umass has success before Cal as well. Maybe you have heard of Julius Erving? They had one NCAA appearance from 1950 to the Cal era. I meant actual success.

  3. Did the "punishment" mean that WWWes is gone? If so, Memphis is done. I thought Calipari leaving meant that. Not sure, the guy that took over is a Cal guy. Memphis is still a Nike school. I think there is a chance that he still throws them a bone or two. But, the penalties and interest of the NCAA now on the program might run him away. He was with Cal one season. He's worked under two very successful coaches and is considered to be a great recruiter. He's already received a commitment from a top 5 senior in Will Barton. Joe Jackson, a top 15 player has Memphis as his top choice as well. Combine those two with Elliot Williams and you have a very good nucleus for the 2010-11 season.
  4. What do they have to do with Memphis? There's just as many examples of schools losing high profile coaches and still maintaining elite levels.
  5. Feel free to look it up. Also if I'm not mistaken vacated wins doesn't mean that they now count as losses.
  6. Got that guys? We were winning because of Koyie Hill. Gotta be the 60 OPS+.
  7. Memphis is high profile? If Calipari stayed and he had his army of paid 18 year olds there instead of Lexington, the NCAA would've found no wrong-doing. With Calipari gone and Memphis's program an afterthought they were able to actually do something(however pointless it may be) Yes, Memphis is high profile. Three straight elite 8's and a sweet 16 is fairly good. And they'll probably return to the tournament again next year. I don't really even see an argument as to whether Memphis is considered high profile or not. You mean, 2 straight elite eights and a sweet 16. No, I meant 3. Not to mention a national title game thrown in there.

  9. I'm at the point where I'm not angry at Miles anymore. I know he sucks, he knows he sucks, everybody on the planet knows he sucks...exept for Lou. Why why why do you pinch hit him in a 2-2 game with the bases loaded? Is Lou saving Fox for a bigger situation? The only thing I could think of was that Lou thought that Miles was due, which he very much is. Or maybe he doesnt care any more and Miles was just the first guy he saw. A guy being due may very well be the stupidest old timey baseball cliche there is. So yea, that's probably what Lou was thinking.

  11. I thought we already tried "getting more athletic" one offseason? Maybe I'm thinking of the "guys who catch the ball" offseason. I'm starting to get them confused.
  12. I want no part of Orlando Hudson but would love to get Uggla from Florida. I know the defense is pretty bad but putting up those numbers in that park is pretty promising. Maybe Hendry/Lou give up on their lefty obsession and at least explore the idea.
  13. Just a question becauese I'm not very educated on the subject but where does good luck play into all of this? I would assume that bad luck and good luck come close to equaling out over the course of a season. Is that where the 120 points come into play?
  14. I'm calling for more villification. He's OPS'ng .670 and that's against mostly right handed pitching. It would've been nice to hide him in the 8th spot all year, but due to the sucktitude that is Geo and Soriano there is no hiding. He just picked a really bad year to be truly awful. He picked the year he'd have bad luck? .225/.293/.380 in 351 plate appearances is a little more than bad luck. It's in the final stages of a very bad year. Also, we're not talking about a guy with 1500 or so PA's to justify this as being an unlucky year. This season makes up over 30% of his career plate appearences. Now I don't think he's quite this bad I just hope we don't give him another year to prove that he might be.

  17. Nice outing for Papelbon. What type of prospect is he considered? I never see him on anyone's lists and his peripherals are not good at all. Is he a non prospect at this point?
  18. If we don't sign or trade for a second baseman in the offseason I think Baker should be the guy. It's safe to say that the Mike Fontenot experiment failed pretty miserably. Hopefully Baker is the everyday 2nd baseman for the rest of this season at least.
  19. Does it really matter who the closer is? The offense is pathetic. We've waited all season for it to come around and it's just not happening. If we can't score more than 1 run off whoever the hell that was pitching last night then we don't deserve to win.
  20. Looks like there's a pretty significant drop off after 12.
  21. I agree. Also, Lilly has been really good over the last 3 years. With Harden's injury history I'm not very confident with Wells, Gorz, and Marshall as our 4-6 starters.
  22. i like this idea too, although i'm not sure how easy it would be to get a taker for dempster's contract. Agreed. It would be ideal, but I don't think it is too realistic what about trading Lilly? 1 year $12 million left with no-trade protection. We are still trying to win next year aren't we? Why in the world would you trade one of your top two starters?
  23. that guy's look epitomizes everything why i don't ever sit in the bleachers anymore: -plain, white t-shirt? check -cub hat, slightly cocked to the side? check -thinly groomed beard? check -oversized, white sunglasses hanging from t-shirt? check -white sweat bands on the forearm? check 9.5 out of 10 on the douchebag-o-meter. I'm partial to the guy on the far left drinking and completely oblivious to what just happened.
  24. Miles decided to K instead of weakly ground out.
  25. How can they be like the 2008 Cubs when they're not too right handed? The 2008 Cubs were too right handed dangit.
