  1. Dunston, Rivero, Pineyro.
  2. Dunston, Vitters, and Ramirez. Same as last time.
  3. Dunston, Vitters, and Ramirez. Black and Rivero were also considered.
  4. Blackburn, Zastryzny, Dunston I may regret the Dunston thing later, but he took a huge step forward with his plate discipline last year. I never thought I'd see a Dunston walk more than he struck out. The pop is still projection at this point, but with his tools and the improvement he showed last year I've got my eye on him as much as anybody to take a big step forward this year.
  5. Cubs brought back Lim on a minor league deal. Nice.
  6. Is Hammel worth $6 mil? Sure. But I've liked all of our previous one year gambles on pitchers better at the time of the signing. Maholm (thanks, option year!) > Feldman > Baker > Hammel.
  7. Wasn't he dead set on going to Pittsburgh? Either way, I'm sure he'd have a wealth of options and don't see why he'd come here. He's backed off the Pirates thing, apparently. And yeah, I'm sure there would be plenty of other teams in on him. But we should use that Tanaka money on something, even if it's not quite as efficient as we'd like.
  8. AJ Burnett has decided to pitch another year. He should definitely be a target. He could be a pretty good flip at the deadline.
  9. A scout dropped a Miguel Cabrera ceiling comp. http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lxlq7tmiCG1qfgutho1_500.gif
  10. Rizzo? Rizzo comes in 4th So then the Top Players Under 25 list is: 1. Baez 2. Castro 3. Bryant 4. Rizzo 5. Almora 6. Soler 7. Edwards 8. Alcantara 9. Johnson 10. Lake I don't have a problem with Lake making the back end of that list over Vogelbach. Vogs still has a long road of development to even make the big leagues.
  11. After Vogelbach is when voting for two or three players at a time starts to make a lot more sense.
  12. M.Bison. http://static.gamesradar.com/images/mb/GamesRadar/us/Games/M/Marvel%20vs%20Capcom%202/Everything%20Else/MVC2%20Bios/ART/Finished/mvc2-m-bison--article_image.jpg

  14. I hope your want of Santana on a 1-10 scale is -13,000. Wrong Santana, but I'd be in favor of giving Johan a decent rehab deal.
  15. I still don't buy this. Sure, there were people that didn't want to spend money on Pujols or Fielder or Darvish or Sanchez or Upton etc... But I think those were just individual evaluations on those players. I don't think there's ever really been a faction of this board that is dead set against spending on any big free agents. Yeah, people weren't dead set against spending money on any big free agents, they were just dead set on spending the money it took to actually acquire big free agents. I've yet to see anybody who was against signing any of the big name guys. The fact there's some negativity about signing every major free agent doesn't mean it's the same guys complaining every single time.
  16. I still think Vitters has a big league quality bat (if somewhat below average for a corner outfielder). But since he's not going to be a plus defender in the outfield, he's a replacement level guy.

As to the rumored Tanaka money, I'm not thrilled about spending that much on a pitcher. But we've got an obvious hole at the top end of the rotation. We don't look to be able to fill that internally and I'd much rather spend money to fill it than give away potential superstar prospects. There's room in the payroll and there's nobody on the horizon who would appear to be a better target for the money. Back up the truck.
  18. I have my first first date in 13 years tonight, and I wish I didn't so I could just stay home and refresh for Tanaka news. This is far sexier. Sounds like you need to convert Chili's to Chili's-To-Go. This didn't get enough attention. Bravo. :clapping:
  19. Yeah, I think we can wrap this one up early.
  20. That'd be the dream scenario. But I'm guessing it was the Dodgers. It sounds like they aren't that serious of bidders and they were probably more preoccupied with the Kershaw extension.
  21. lmao I would LOVE it if they sprang No. 1 on us out of nowhere. now i hope that's it. It would be hilarious, but it's not at all likely. They're spending a lot on renovations already, which would just be money down the drain. And stadium negotiations usually take months and involve a lot of public input from some councilman who doesn't want the taxpayers stuck with the bill. Besides, so many towns would be willing to vie for the Cubs new ballpark that it wouldn't make sense to do it entirely in private.
  22. I've been to third base in a church. Did you get any hush money from the diocese? [expletive], I was going to make an almost identical joke like 10 minutes ago, but thought it would be too tasteless. Now I am filled with regret. I was pretty proud of it. But I'm a horrible person.

  24. I went with Almora, which was somewhat surprising to me. But based off the scouting reports we're looking at a low floor guy who could be a 5+ win player if things go well. Soler could be a 5+ win guy too of course, but his path there is pretty much solely dependent on his bat... which leaves him a riskier choice. I also debated Edwards here (and will have a hell of an internal debate at #4), but with pitcher attrition rates being what they are I tend to discount them rather heavily until they reach AA.
  25. Yeah, the best news about this whole thing is that there's an expiration date on the drama.
