  1. That's silly. The Blue Jays aren't going to stop looking for upgrades because they lost a couple guys. They're still in first place in the AL East and have the second best record in the AL. If anything, they're under more pressure now because they need to make sure they don't lose that playoff spot and the tens of millions of dollars it translates to in revenue. What's a couple risky farmhands compared to that?
  2. For anybody who doesn't remember, he was drafted as a college position player. 1B/OF.
  3. why was the situation so disappointing? the basic consensus was that Aiken/Rodon/Jackson were clear top-3 talents with a stray publication/opinion here & there throwing Kolek into that mix, and one of those guys made it to our pick we just didn't seem to value that player or the non-baseball baggage attached to him The big 3 were Aiken, Rodon, and Kolek. Hoffman was in that group as well before the injury. Jackson wasn't some consensus top pick. He was only talked about with the #2 because it was thought the Marlins might act like the Marlins and go cheap. Best prep bat? Sure. Top 3 talent, nope.
  4. 4:30 per pick. 26 more picks to go. That would be 1 hour and 57 minutes from now, so 9:53ish? But that doesn't account for all the time they waste on commercials and waiting for Bud to try to walk all the way up to the podium. Plus the potential break after the 1st round and/or after the supplemental round. 10:30ish seems right. Maybe 11. Edit: CST
  5. We didn't really just draft Schwarber. We drafted Schwarber and kept a million or so bucks in reserve to grab an overslot pitcher or two. We can't really evaluate this pick until we see who those pitchers are.
  6. Not sure how much I want Rodon. The talent is undeniable, but I'm worried about his arm.
  7. Ok. I'm really late to starting to look at this stuff this year. I know there's a pretty big dropoff after the top 3. So who are we actually hoping to get, assuming one of the top 3 doesn't fall for whatever reason?
  8. We accidentally replaced your heart with a baked potato. You have about three seconds to live.
  9. I have absolutely zero interest in Jacob Turner. No strikeouts, and the walk and groundball rates are nothing to write home about. The raw stuff is unimpressive too. So really, the only things in his favor are his age and his walk rate in the low minors... Basically, he's a less impressive version of Kyle Hendricks with one less year of club control and some burned options. Even thinking about giving up a guy like Vogelbach or Alcantara is nuts.
  10. Dunston, Rivero, Pineyro.
  11. Dunston, Vitters, and Ramirez. Same as last time.
  12. Dunston, Vitters, and Ramirez. Black and Rivero were also considered.
  13. Blackburn, Zastryzny, Dunston I may regret the Dunston thing later, but he took a huge step forward with his plate discipline last year. I never thought I'd see a Dunston walk more than he struck out. The pop is still projection at this point, but with his tools and the improvement he showed last year I've got my eye on him as much as anybody to take a big step forward this year.
  14. Cubs brought back Lim on a minor league deal. Nice.
  15. Is Hammel worth $6 mil? Sure. But I've liked all of our previous one year gambles on pitchers better at the time of the signing. Maholm (thanks, option year!) > Feldman > Baker > Hammel.
  16. Wasn't he dead set on going to Pittsburgh? Either way, I'm sure he'd have a wealth of options and don't see why he'd come here. He's backed off the Pirates thing, apparently. And yeah, I'm sure there would be plenty of other teams in on him. But we should use that Tanaka money on something, even if it's not quite as efficient as we'd like.
  17. AJ Burnett has decided to pitch another year. He should definitely be a target. He could be a pretty good flip at the deadline.
  18. A scout dropped a Miguel Cabrera ceiling comp. http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lxlq7tmiCG1qfgutho1_500.gif
  19. Rizzo? Rizzo comes in 4th So then the Top Players Under 25 list is: 1. Baez 2. Castro 3. Bryant 4. Rizzo 5. Almora 6. Soler 7. Edwards 8. Alcantara 9. Johnson 10. Lake I don't have a problem with Lake making the back end of that list over Vogelbach. Vogs still has a long road of development to even make the big leagues.
  20. After Vogelbach is when voting for two or three players at a time starts to make a lot more sense.
  21. M.Bison. http://static.gamesradar.com/images/mb/GamesRadar/us/Games/M/Marvel%20vs%20Capcom%202/Everything%20Else/MVC2%20Bios/ART/Finished/mvc2-m-bison--article_image.jpg

  23. I hope your want of Santana on a 1-10 scale is -13,000. Wrong Santana, but I'd be in favor of giving Johan a decent rehab deal.
  24. I still don't buy this. Sure, there were people that didn't want to spend money on Pujols or Fielder or Darvish or Sanchez or Upton etc... But I think those were just individual evaluations on those players. I don't think there's ever really been a faction of this board that is dead set against spending on any big free agents. Yeah, people weren't dead set against spending money on any big free agents, they were just dead set on spending the money it took to actually acquire big free agents. I've yet to see anybody who was against signing any of the big name guys. The fact there's some negativity about signing every major free agent doesn't mean it's the same guys complaining every single time.
  25. I still think Vitters has a big league quality bat (if somewhat below average for a corner outfielder). But since he's not going to be a plus defender in the outfield, he's a replacement level guy.
