  1. Isn't Brett Jackson a better fielder than Colvin? Just wondering why Colvin is gonna stick at RF in 2014... They must think he's gonna be a very productive player considering that's all Cubs players in the OF (no FAs)... And Vitters, Flaherty, Watkins, and Ridling across the infield and Clevenger behind the plate. Whitest team ever. Well, not ever, but you know. Dave Kaplan just creamed himself.
  2. Or move him to 1B... it's not like we don't have a gaping hole there in the upcoming years.
  3. scioscia has such a chubb for mathis' catching skills and hated napoli's glove, which is why they were way closer to splitting time then they should have been. Yeah... until recently, when bitching to my friends about Koyie Hill getting so much damn playing time, I had always equated him with Scioscia's infatuation with Mathis. I hope the situation here doesn't turn out similarly.
  4. Even if Wells is an upgrade, the drop from Napoli to Mathis is huge. If Hank Conger doesn't bust out in a big way, I don't see how the Angels got any better.
  5. No, Sczur's game is based on speed. There's been reports he has the ability to hit for a bit of power, but not on the level of someone like Reggie Golden or even Brett Jackson. Yeah, the recent reports suggest he might develop Carl Crawford power if we're lucky. There's quite a few guys in the system who project at that or better. As far as I know though, the only guy we've got with a real plus power ceiling is Reggie Golden. I've liked the Kevin Mitchell comps I've heard.
  6. The more I'm reading about Morris, the more impressed I am. He may be able to step into a setup role at some point. Hicks is the Jim Hendry special. Let's just hope he grows into the projection Hendry and company see. He's had a pretty solid track record with getting something for nothing with these young, raw guys.
  7. Dealt a guy at a position of depth, got back a very intriguing prospect, and two others who could be interesting. I like it.
  8. If people feel the soriano contract is an albatross, just wait till they see how the prince fielder contract turns out. The cubs need to stay way the hell away.
  9. Decent platoon guy for nothing. Hard to find fault with this one unless we let him face righties, or play much CF.
  10. As much as the cubs FO has stressed defense behind the plate in recent years, I feel it's important to remember Michael Barrett. If Hendry is a big enough believer in his bat (which does profile similarly), he may be willing to overlook any defensive deficiencies.
  11. This was a solid acquisition. Even if he bombs, he can't possibly be worse than Koyie Hill. But he can be a hell of a lot better.
  12. We already had a pretty solid rotation. I wonder if this pushes out Wells, Gorz, or Silva? Either way, it only represents probably a 1-2 win upgrade at best. It's a bad trade unless Hendry thinks Garza is poised for a breakout... Simply moving from the AL East isn't enough, not when he's already outperforming his xFIP
  13. umm... umm what? I don't see anything wrong with that, in all honesty. There are guys with more upside ... namely, Lee. But Darwin's more consistent, and as I've always said (mostly elsewhere), his athleticism is a bit underrated. He's not a top shelf athlete ... but some folks made him out to be a lot worse. Lee's what, "Omar Vizquel with a better arm" or whatever, but not even our best infielder? And Brett Jackson was rated the Best Power Hitter in our system despite the fact that Golden has a ceiling of a plus-plus power. The ranking is based on current skill level, not ceiling.
  14. Like last year? :D You really couldn't see the rationale behind picking up a 25 year old former top prospect who was coming off a couple down (but hardly disastrous) seasons, could be had for nothing, and could be stashed on the back end of the bench just to see if we don't luck into something? Not only could you not see that, but you felt it so absurd as to feel the need to mock everybody who believes in no risk gambles? You're either a professional sports writer, or you're a moron. Or both.
  15. I don't see how signing a 1 year deal with the Orioles is caring about anything but winning. He'll be on a playoff team come the trade deadline.
  16. Ooh, I didn't think of that. I mean, Greinke's still an upgrade even if you project a strong season from Escobar, but it definitely dulls the effect of adding Greinke. And the probable drop from Cain to Gomez.
  17. How the hell can the same man who just gave guaranteed money to Jeff Francoeur pull off a deal this good?
  18. Nope, it's merely because I'm happy that the vast majority of the board has caught up with the math behind the game and realize the idea of the prototypical leadoff hitter is usually a very bad idea. And some of the suggestions were pretty funny Oh, absolutely.

  20. Best hitter in the lineup should bat 2nd. I still don't understand the bizarre insistence on placing light hitting guys there.
  21. Can I just say how proud I am of this board right now? And you all are high, Jerome Walton is the obvious choice.
  22. Without bothering to actually do any math, I imagine the highest scoring lineup would be something like: Fukudome Soto Ramirez Pena Soriano Byrd Castro Pitcher DeWitt
