Based on what I've seen, yes. Bronson Arroyo takes you deep twice and you've got some deep issues. Next thing you know Tom Glavine's going 'oppo' on you.
Guzman>Hill>>>>>Rusch I wouldn't complain if it was between Hill and Rusch, but Guzman is the guy with major league stuff. Hill has a major league curve ball but the rest of it is AAAA. To me that translates to guys like Shawn Estes. It's only a month long experiment at the very least so I'd like to see what Guzman's got against major league hitters. I've seen Hill and I'm not at all impressed. He's a Loogy at worst and a #5 starter at best. I see Guzman as a very solid #3 major league starter when given the opportunity.l
That's what I was hoping. The only issue is that we only play one closer and I've already got Gordon. Is this still worth adding Dunn and Turnbow while downgrading SS and 2B?
ahahah, though I do fancy "Marshall's Field." \ I have to agree that one probably doesn't suck. The first two are dreadful and utterly too predictable. The problem is that The Trib, Sun Times, Herald and Southtown will probably all have some variation of the same stupid headline. Marshall's field would be pretty good. Watch that Bruce Miles guys steal my headline now...
...already annoy me and they haven't even happened yet. I can see them all already: Marshall Plan Marshall Law Marshall Art US Marshall Marshall's Field The 'Prior' headlines were much worse because they really never even made sense, but just as predictable. Thing's like "Prior Convictions" and the like are major reaches. For the record, I'm not trashing the writers, because I know they don't write the headlines.
Connolly was #23 on last year's nsbb prospect board. So much for his potential. Another one bites the dust. Who did we trade for him? Jon Connolly - R - Cubs Cubs released Jon Connolly on Saturday. Connolly never totally got back into form this March after rotator cuff surgery last year. "It’s doing pretty good," Connolly said. "I had a couple of good outings (during spring training) and a couple of bad outings. It’s spring training." Apr. 9 - 10:37 am et Source: The Daily Star
I just noticed that Z is slated to pitch tomorrow and then the #4 starter, Marshall, is set to pitch after him on Sunday. It's four days rest for Z, but I just thought it's weird that they're messing with the rotation already. Zambrano could probably use the extra day off.
Maybe not here but it's out there. I just looked at the overall picture of people talking about how they've got all of those former Cubs prospects. I'm not the least bit concerned about Mitre, Wellemeyer or Nolasco. I'm not really sure that Pinto's ever going to come back and haunt us either.
Florida active pitchers who were Cubs or in the Cubs' system... Joe Borowski Sergio Mitre Ricky Nolasco Todd Wellemeyer Dontrelle Willis Borowski was not traded to the Marlins by the Cubs.
Can anyone honestly say that they knew who Dontrelle Willis was when we traded him - and that he would turn out to be valuable major leaguer? I'm not about to. I was happy to add Clement and Alfonseca. We needed a closer and it turned out Clement was a very good starter. A year or two later Willis has a great rookie year. I'm so tired of hearing about how we could let him go to Florida. He was an 18 year old rookie baller who pitched in exactly 9 games for us.
I'm very much in favor of not having to nickname the 25-roster (plus minor leaguers). I've gone on record ranting several times about dusty's insistence on adding -ie or -y to everyone and anyone. Juan is fine by me.
Just got done watching him pitch in a spring training game from a couple weeks ago (vs ARI's regular lineup) and have to say I'd take him over Prior or Zambrano. I didn't get a chance to see any of his games last year, just highlights, and I couldn't believe his stuff. It's like Pedro in his prime. His two-seamer is sick against lefties, his curveball is almost unhittable for lefties or righties and his 97mph fastball is almost an afterthought. He's got a great changeup too. All I can say is I hope the kid stays healthy because he's got the goods. At 19, he could be the last pitcher with a serious chance at 300 wins if his arm doesn't fall off. Because he's more of the Zambrano-type mold he seems like he might be able to keep together. Anybody think I'm crazy to say I'd take him over Prior or Zambrano after only 12 career starts? Heck, I'd trade three Felix Pie's for one King Felix.
Our roster looks like an old-timers reunion team when compared to the high school team being fielded in Miami. It's too bad they can't fast forward 2-3 years to when that team could dominate. Of course that's usually about the time when those guys would be sent off to the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, etc.
Bruce and Rozner get my votes. Sullivan has not been much of a company man lately as far a I've noticed, though. Especially in his radio interviews. I'm surprised everytime I finish reading a Kiley article that he doesn't write for the Trib. He's the biggest Cubs apologist out there. For my money, the Southtown and the Daily Herald have the best, most unbiased stories.
You'll be fine so long as that starting rotation stays healthy...er..um... Where have I heard that before? It's not a bad team though. It's a good thing your a Cubs fan with that team though. Or maybe it will just hurt twice as bad if they can't get healthy. Good luck! Sounds like a fun league.
Geez, there are a lot of Pie detractors nowadays. Last year at the trade deadline no one wanted to trade him for anything and now it's like he's a has-been, never-will-be. FWIW, I wouldn't even be looking at trading him for another prospect. If I'm trading him its in a package for a proven major leaguer on a small market team with one or two more arbitration years. Otherwise I'm finding a way to make him a full-timer next year. Hell, he can be a starter this year if we lose and Of'er.
I can't believe anyone wants to trade Pie for a guy who's best projections are comparable to Brian Roberts, Marcus Giles and Mark Ellis. Don't get me wrong, they're all very good in their own right, but we better be getting the next Chase friggin' Utley if we're exchanging him for another prospect. For as deep as the league has become at that position, he looks pretty basic, even with that batting average - maxed out as high as AA by age 23 I might add. Now I realize it's all bogus, but the fact that half of the posters in this thread were ready to pull that trigger makes me wonder. Don't you think we could do better than that? Let's not forget Pie is a plus fielder with a plus arm and hits for mild power and can be a factor on the basepaths. We can compare him to Patterson all day long. Patterson throws like a girl and didn't have good fielding instincts. By all accounts, Pie makes reads on the ball on a major league level and has done so for a few years. If you want a great young second basemen prospect that badly - consider playing Pie at second base.
