  1. This is getting old. Please stop. I've read enough of posts like this in the maddux/walker rant/trade threads. Please stop, it's hurting me. I mean this honestly and in peace. The solution is quite simple: Go to another message board. Please don't. He can stay here ... but game threads are not a safe port when the storm blows in. Game threads are for riding out the storm, no matter how nasty it gets.
  2. This is getting old. Please stop. I've read enough of posts like this in the maddux/walker rant/trade threads. Please stop, it's hurting me. I mean this honestly and in peace. It's a game thread. It's not a place of peace to visit for positivity in a losing season. If and when the Cubs do have a winning season, it won't be a place of peace for negativity in a winning season. So we have that going for us. Which is nice. Game threads are here to share game info ahd yeah, to overreact when your eyeballs boil out of your head due to a really bad call. It happens.
  3. Maybe he bats with his glove. He might as well.
  4. The Cubs own Neifi through '07 and Izturis through '08. How may position players who flat out cannot hit do we need on the roster? Z can't compensate for them all.
  5. This is a good post. I am in line with you. Lets get behind Izturis now and give him an opportunity to suceed before we run him out of town I don't think there's anyone here who wants Izturis to fail. They just realize he isn't that good a player and that Hendry turned down "a package of top-level prospects" for Cesar. Is there anything to that, or is it just a rumor? I've read it, I heard Hendry say it, it's out there. He's proud he held out for Izturis.
  6. Howry = RH Liquid Metal Terminator Eyre = LH ADD +Burger King +doesn't like to run I'm not sure which had the arm problems. :)
  7. And it's not suprising for them to be seduced by his 2004 season and 2 Gold Gloves. On the gold-glove-for-gold-glove exchange, the Cobs got shortchanged. I am a Maddux fan, but it was time to move on and he was ready to move on. I don't mind Maddux's departure this time; I'm glad everyone got to say goodbye. I do mind that Hendry purposely and vigorously sought out the same type of player he now seems determined to build this team around: a slappy no-walk no-power all-glove guy. It's a miracle that he ever ended up with Aramis Ramirez. Somewhere along the line, Hendry got brainwashed into thinking that an all-defense all-batting-average team would work at Wrigley. That's why I'm absolutely pissed off about a trade that I otherwise would just be vaguely sentimental over.
  8. I can't muster up much enthusiasm right now, but GO RICH HILL It's time.
  9. Well, it is only 2006 ... :P ... but sadly, there's hasn't been much competition in terms of smarter maneuvers. This is awesome, too: A couple of weeks ago, Dodgers manager Grady Little said of Izturis, "Even on nights when he doesn't get any hits, it's like he's driving in runs with his glove. That means as much to us as a guy hitting .350."
  10. Just please watch the language (and we can all take a hint from the thread title).
  11. I'm not the only one who finds most scouting reports really creepy, am I? "GOOD, FLUID HIPS. RIPPLING BICEPS! HANDLES BAT FIRLMLY, YET GENTLY. SURPRISINGLY SOFT HANDS." I'm surprised they don't put scouting reports up on myspace pages.
  12. Nothing is going to get better under this ownership.
  13. Yeah, it was important to open up that rotation spot.
  14. If there is, no one has heard about the mystery minor leaguer, including Cubs.com and the Trib.
  15. I'm looking forward to seeing Maddux notch up another win at Wrigley in September.
  16. Disgusting is a better word, I think. Nauseating.
  17. Sorry, the open rotation spot isn't worth seeing Izturis from here on out. Flat-out embarrassing. Good luck in LA, Maddux.
  18. Dodgers have reached a deal for Maddux http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5832966
  19. Rosenthal With 30 minutes remaining before the non-waiver trade deadline, the Cubs were still talking to two clubs — believed to be the Padres and Dodgers — about a trade involving right-hander Greg Maddux.
  20. From Carrie Muskat's mailbag: Why not let Rich Hill stick in the rotation for the rest of the year? There's not much room for improvement at the Triple-A level, and even though teams cite fears of destroying a pitcher's confidence by letting them struggle at the Major League level, I can't imagine that it does anything for Hill's confidence to dominate at Iowa for a month, then struggle in Chicago for a week or two. He'll never figure out Major League hitters by dominating Triple-A hitters. -- Phil G., Frederick, Md. Hill needs to give the Cubs a reason to keep him in the rotation the rest of the year. As manager Dusty Baker has said, you have to graduate sometime.
  21. C'mon, Hendry! Of course, there was some indication last week that Maddux wasn't eager to return to the Braves. I'll be suprised if he gets much booty. He manages his calories about as effectively as he does the Cubs. hee
  22. As I mentioned in another thread, McClane also supposedly ordered Purpura to shop Oswalt for Tejada. These crazy rumors are fun to follow. :willynilly:
  23. I'm quoting this because I've noticed that sometimes that if the last post on a page is the first unread one, the thread will still open to the first unread post on the following page (if that makes sense). If a team can run out and pick up Oswalt or Schmidt (or Zito) for the stretch run, they do just that. Maybe the Dodgers will decide to start flinging top prospects around at the last minute (though the Astros may want 'name players' and ... who knows with the Giants, who are still being occasionally mentioned as a long-shot contender for Maddux despite supposedly shopping Schmidt). Neither team may be willing or able to pay the price for the top-tier available pitchers and adding Maddux starts making a lot more sense in that context, especially if the Cubs foot the salary.
