    I'm mystified. Being removed from the situation other than what I read, a minor league assignment looks like an option to me. It doesn't seem like whatever program he's on here is working and it's hard to tell from the quotes whether he and Rothschild are on the same page. He looked like death warmed over today.

    Probably Guzman. The linked article makes it seem questionable whether Prior will make his next start.

    Dopirak is apparently back in Chicago having his ankle x-rayed and thoroughly checked out so the front office can figure out what's going on with it. That's all I head before the broadcast was cut off by a Thunderstorm Warning for northwestern Tennessee.

    Over Pie? I'd like to see Walker get a promotion. Fuld is on the DL; my understanding is that he's been battling some ongoing back problems (disc problems?) that have affected his play recently, even before going on the DL.

    It's hard to argue that Z couldn't use an extra day -- has he had one all year long? Other than the All-Star Break, when he did, after all, get clobbered in the elbow with a bat. From Day One they had him go every 5th day. He started 2x in the first 4 games, 3x in the first 8.

    Is this speculation? They aren't going to pitch Mateo on Saturday now. Pat and Ron believe someone will be called up. I'm guessing it will be Guzman, but I haven't checked the last time he's pitched.

    He did have the curve working at times over his past two starts, so ... who knows why it's not today. I'm on radio, but what they're saying matches up. Ron is distressed over the lack of breaking balls. When Prior doesn't have the curveball, he has no margin for error.

    As Brenly noted, you'd like to see some competitive fire or emotion from him. He had that quite a bit early in his career. He looks indifferent out there. Who knows, like I can tell that from my couch, but it looks that way. He showed some of that during the Mets game and last week. Let's face it, he's not going to be pumping his fist after K'ing Doug Davis down 3 runs. He hasn't had a lot to get fired up about lately. I have to say that he looks hungover today, though. Prior's particularly shaky in the first inning because he rarely has his curveball working. He's not good enough right now to pitch through lousy defense, especially in the first. CheapSeats, the gun that apparently the Brewers are using on their broadcast seems to be an mph or two slow vs the WGN readings (this is per Ron). Ron also thinks, though, that Prior did try ease up to try to regain some control.

    Ron notes that Neifi has 4 BBs this season and says, "that means he's going after a lot of pitches."

    Not sure, Pagan is only 6-23 against LHP. It's Pagan's turn, Dusty said he'd start today at the beginning of the series. Face it he should have been out of that inning without any damage, but these clowns who can catch the ball again can't. A better team would have contained the damage.
