  1. huh? the guy is under 40 and is the GM of a MLB team-he didnt get there by backing his way in. He isn't weighing opportunity against social ties, he's weighing opportunity vs opportunity. Boston is either negotiating a trade with Ricketts or offered him something of a relative equal position. There's more to it than x vs y, or Beane would be sitting in the Boston GM Chair instead of Theo. Boston doesn't really have an equivalent position to offer.
  2. I agree -- if it wasn't for the Boston ties, this would be over. Permission granted, interview completed, offer made. The delay is because Boston has the ties; Chicago has the better opportunity; and it's a question as to whether Boston will up the ante enough to keep Theo happy and content. If they do, on to the next choice!
  3. I think Boston ownership is confronted with a dilemma. Ricketts is going to offer Theo his dream job (albeit in Chicago, not Boston). Boston can offer him an extension and more money, but can they promote him substantively vs designating a fancier title? Unless Lucchino is ready to ride into the sunset, I'm not sure they can. Doesn't mean that it will happen, and Theo could be using this as leverage in Boston. Still, Ricketts will land one of his top picks. If you pass up an opportunity like this, you may never get another.
  4. Ricketts considering a handful of candidates might lead to media spec, but it's probably a better strategy than breaking out the I <3 Theo hoodie. I think Ricketts' approach to the search has been great and almost unbelievably low-key until now.

  8. Maybe if Pujols played for the Yankees, they'd be playing later when squirrels are less active.
  9. The timing wasn't right for Aramis, but he's also lazy, and he saves his home runs for times when they will benefit him and not the team, and all his homeruns are meaningless, and he leads Latino uprisings within the clubhouse (very disturbing!), and he's lazy, and he injures himself on purpose because he's lazy. Just ask Dave Kaplan or Barry Rozner or pretty much any mainstream media guy in Chicago.
  10. I think the Pittsburgh Pierogies have done road trips.
  11. Between Milwaukee/Miller Park and a Wrigley rooftop, where would you rather chill? I was wondering whether it was a new advertising phase - turning around the Wrigley North concept.
