  1. No, we were saving that one and you ruined it. We were going to break that one out to celebrate the New Year. :D
  2. Yeah, we got the short end of the deal too. I would have much rather heard you sing. :D
  3. If they add cash to send Corey away, I'm not going to be happy. Oh wait, I'm already not happy. But, getting back to this 2006 team, not only does the parent club look like crap, but the farm system took a pretty good hit as well. AND, the draft will be pretty dull. AND, the Cubs are basically doing nothing outside of the US to find new talent. But, let us all worship the fine offseason Hendry has provided the millions of fans around the world.
  4. 62 years? I'm going to guess that's probably donobr's age.
  5. No, the Cubs do not have any good right handed or left handed RFers in Iowa. And Kelton went to a GOOD organization.
  6. I can't believe how in love with Todd Hundley all of you are. :D
  7. Yes. 1 game. Hey, even the Royals sell out on Opening Day. Betcha come August, Wrigley is no longer announcing 39,000+ attendance every day. I can't believe someone would pay what is it, $6000 for season tickets to this train wreck? Wow. Agreed. I feel real bad for the season ticket holders.
  8. I liken this Jacque Jones deal to the one Terrence Long received. Once that deal was signed, there was no going back. From that point forward, no team wanted anything to do with him and the team that had him was basically stuck with him unless they could figure out a creative way to add him in to a trade. The A's forced San Diego to take him in a trade that sent Ramon Hernandez for Mark Kotsay. San Diego couldn't deal with him, so they traded him along with Dennis Tankersley and a significant amount of cash for Ryan Bukvich and Darrell May. Speaking of Terrence, couldn't we have just signed him to a 1 year deal? They're practically identical players.
  9. And if that didn't make you sick, try this: Tampa and their sub 35m payroll has an outfield of: Carl Crawford, Rocco Baldelli, Jonny Gomes with Aubrey Huff, Joey Gathright, Delmon Young and Damon Hollins. Their outfield kicks our outfields butt. Their back up outfielders kick our outfields butt. Florida Marlins and their sub 10m payroll :D has an outfield of: Miguel Cabrera, Jeremy Hermida and Chris Aguila Their outfield kicks our outfields butt. Miguel Cabrera alone kicks our outfields butt. Heck, the sub 50m payroll team that dumped Jones has a better outfield than we do. They have Shannon Stewart, Torrii Hunter, Jason Kubel and Lew Ford. If it's any consolation, I'm not so sure the Cardinals outfield is much better than ours. But, with 100m to spend on a team, you would think that someone could come up with something a little better than what we have.
  10. Choi would have been a nice fit in Tampa rather than Travis Lee.
  11. I'll take that bet. Klesko isn't going anywhere and he makes too much money to sit on the bench. He's too horrible to put in the outfield, so Klesko WILL be at 1b. Gonzalez might get some starts against LHP and he may take over at 1b in 2007 permanently, but Klesko will be at 1b. Some team recently asked about Dave Roberts. Towers rejected the deal, saying that he's committed to Roberts because he's the only legitimate lead off guy they have. Someone else is likely to go to Boston for Wells, but I doubt it's Roberts. It would be a bit ironic if they were to switch places, however.
  12. That's cuz I gave him a private ass chewin'. :D When will you come around to giving goony one? :D He's too much of a sweetheart for that. :D
  13. There are 700 some odd major league baseball players. From the time Sosa left Chicago (or should I say got kicked out of Chicago), there have been a number of players available that would have made the Cubs better. Jacque Jones is not one of them. It is hard to replace the unexpected lack of production from Patterson and Sosa, but not only did the Cubs have mega amounts of money to do it, but they had a plethora of minor league AND major league talent to do it. Nomar for 1 year at 4m plus incentives in RF>Jacque Jones for 3/16m We had guys here that would have been better options for cheaper, without going long term. Nomar can probably hit left handed better than Jones hits left handed. But, you are welcome to your optimism. Unfortunately, you are definitely going to be in the minority on this one, so have patience with those of us who are currently losing our minds.
  14. No way Murton and Cedeno grace the field simultaneously, regularly. Here's your opening day Cubs line up 2006: Pierre, Perez, Lee, Jones, Ramirez, Walker?, Murton, Barrett
  15. Hendry: "Juan Pierre has a cool name. Let's trade our farm system for him." Hendry: "Jacque has an even cooler name. He's gotta be worth 3/16m. Sign him."
  16. Dusty: "Them French guys sure do play good ball. Let's get a couple of 'em".
  17. How do you feel about Hendry now? If his numbers revert back to or close to his 02-03 seasons, I'm fine with the signing. If he contniues to hit like he did in 04-05, not so much. However, He is an outstanding defensive OF. I'll wait & see how it works out. Unlike most people here, I feel he is an upgrade over Patterson & Burnitz. My apologies in advance because I don't wish to spoil your optimism, but...... 1 week old spoiled milk is an upgrade over 1 month old spoiled milk. Either way, it's still rotten.
  18. Interestingly enough, this didn't bother me one bit. We officially deserve to be laughed at. Is it too late to offer Brian Giles 20m a year?
  19. I would hope they'd non-tender him, but I would imagine the A's will get something worked out. He's their kind of player.
  20. What's Travis Lee's deal? If he's signed for another year, that makes Huff even more expendable. Koronka and Novoa/Welly for Huff That would be 7.5m off the books for Tampa, and two desperately needed arms.
  21. Nady isn't available, is he? I'm assuming he's New York's RFer whether they trade for Manny or not. Nady can rake. I'd like to see what he could do outside of Petco.
  22. Well, I did admit that I was in a bad mood at the time, but that doesn't excuse the fact I was probably a bit out of line. My apologies to anyone I may have offended. The thing is, we moderators get tired of finding personal attacks in here. We are human and even we can blow up on occasion. If we all just keep it baseball, there wouldn't be a need for moderators. If the insults were so few and far between, it would be much more fun for everyone involved. But, I still won't agree with you on anything. :D
  23. LOL, I'm not being clear. I value Lidge but I would be disappointed if the Cubs got another bullpen arm (no matter how good) considering the problems on this current team. As it stands, the Cubs realistically need a SP and a RF. Keeping Lidge and subtracting Williams really doesn't better the Cubs for 2006. If anything it leaves them with less to trade for unless they all of a sudden go after a pitcher in the dwindling FA market. Again, I love Lidge but I don't see how he makes sense for the Cubs as they are currently constructed. I believe these are hypothetical sitations where they are comparing the values between Williams and Lidge. I don't think anyone is actually saying we should exchange pitchers.
  24. and when it does, the mods are sure to chastise me publicly on the board, unlike others. that's the thing about the long time respecteds. they don't like to argue. THE POINT was that nobody thought the Astros were going anywhere in 2004 either. year after year there are teams far less talented than the 2005 Chicago Cubs that come out of nowhere. BUT I GUESS I CAN'T MAKE THAT POINT BECAUSE I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO ARGUE WITH THE LONG TIME RESPECTEDS. my entire point in this thread is that dialogue shouldn't be restricted because the consensus disagrees. what's your guys reaction? more attempts to restrict dialogue. pathetic. Maybe I worded my response to NYCubfan improperly. My response to him was supposed to mean that you have every right to argue and that arguing is okay as long as it doesn't become personal. It was directed at NYCubfan, because I felt he was the one getting personal. Regarding your point about 2004, I missed where you were trying to provide a theory that the Cubs could follow Houston's lead and do what they did the previous year. Right after you posted the 2004 standings, you mentioned Lawton, Nomar and Williamson. 2 of those guys were not on the 2004 team.
