  1. I can't imagine that he would be upset about this decision. If he did make it, he has to know that his playing time would be limited considering how many MLB outfielders are already in camp. If the Cubs didn't have Ward and Jones, and the Cubs went with Buck Coats and Angel Pagan, I could see some reason to be upset. As well as Pie is doing in ST, I can't imagine he could outproduce any of Floyd, Murton, Soriano or Jones in his inaugural season in the big leagues. In fact, I'd lay some money down that he couldn't. And I'm a pretty big Pie fan. Let him play everyday in Iowa and make the decision of whether to trade Jones at the deadline for a midseason call up a very tough one for Hendry and Piniella.
  2. It should even out, but I don't think it does for everyone. I watched A-Rod make 3 errors in a game when he was with Texas and they were playing against San Diego. I don't think the official scorer charged him for any. If he did, it was only one. I recall being quite peeved about it. Each official scorer of a ballgame has their own identity and form their own opinions about each play. Some will likely be homers that give their own players the benefit of the doubt. Some will likely show favortism to marquis (sp?) players. But, for the most part, I agree that it will even out. And while it's not all that fair for a pitcher to be charged for runs after an error, there are also plays that bail out the pitcher. Like outfield assists. The pitcher gave up a lead off double, but the outfielder nailed the runner trying to take the extra base. There are a bunch of those plays, so the pitcher's ERA also reflects those.
  3. If the talk is that they don't intend to skip starts for any of the 5 rotation guys, I wouldn't be surprised if they showed up on opening day with 7 relievers.
  4. I don't think it should be THAT black and white, but I do understand what you are saying. There are times that the pitcher really isn't to blame for the runs that score, so I still want a little accuracy when viewing the stats of a game. Differentiating between ERA and runs given up in general are useful stats, but don't really tell the whole story. As a team, yes, all runs scored count. No doubt. Doesn't matter how they score.
  5. I don't think they're replacing Sweeney at all. If he is in a game, it will probably be at DH 9 times out of 10. Since they really won't be playing for anything this year anyway, it would be a really poor business decision to take Shealy out of the line up against LHP.
  6. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Hamilton either sticks with the team all year or Cincinnati works out a trade to keep him.
  7. This is true. And if you read through my posts, you'll see that I have given in to the fact this is probably going to happen. I'll go the MLB.TV route, but not DirecTV. But, I have every intention of continuing to complain about it.
  8. It's too bad we can't say the same for you.
  9. Vargas? I think I heard that they want Villanueva to stretch back out into a starters role as well. They seem pretty high on him.
  10. Hopefully he started a few games at some point. Yeesh.
  11. I was a huge Madlock fan. I even followed him closely after he left. He was awesome. Oh, and I'm one of those stat people who didn't know a thing about stats way back when.
  12. I apologize if this has been mentioned already, but isn't there a pretty good likelihood at this point that Wuertz will need to start the season on the DL or in AAA to make up for the lost time this spring?
  13. From what I gathered from my cable company, they weren't offering it up until this got settled. I called at the beginning of February and they told me to call back after Feb 15th. I called after Feb 15th and that's when they said that we would have to wait until everthing got settled. If you do order MLBTV and need help transferring it to your TV via the S-Cable, I'll give you the instructions. That would be awesome, because I'll probably need help. How long do they make S-Cables? Where my lap top is stationed is probably at least 15 feet from where the TV sits. Of course, I am still holding out hope that my cable company picks up MLB EI.
  14. From what I gathered from my cable company, they weren't offering it up until this got settled. I called at the beginning of February and they told me to call back after Feb 15th. I called after Feb 15th and that's when they said that we would have to wait until everthing got settled.
  15. It wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you are tired of listening to people complain about this, that you could simply NOT OPEN THE THREAD. Regardless of what happens, DirecTV WILL have MLB.EI. Fact! There, your services in this thread are no longer needed. But, thanks for playing.
  16. =D> I think my compassion comment went right over his/her head. I'm clueless why someone would come in here and toot their own horn about their good fortune and spit in the face of the misfortunes of others. Personally, I would feel compassion for any baseball fan (not just Cub fans) that was put in this position. But, I'm seeing the selfish attitude more and more, and I don't like it at all. His original post wasn't even directed at me. It just shocked me that someone would talk down to others like that.
  17. Sweeney is too much of a gamble for any team at this point, IMO. Even if he shows signs of a healthy season, I'm still not sure teams will be willing to chance him at the trade deadline. Just too many injury issues. The man is chronic.
  18. And the hits just keep on coming. Your compassion is awe inspiring.
  19. I'm curious how much more expensive the baseball package will be on DirecTV with the exclusivity agreement. Maybe not this year, but soon enough they might feel the power to make people pay double what they pay now.
  20. Yeah, while I don't really have any issues with DirecTV since I've never had it, I hope they get the screws put to them on this deal. I've seen enough of the NFL network to know that any attempt at an MLB network won't be all their cracking it up to be. A bunch of lame announcers and journalists that haven't a clue about anything outside of conventional baseball wisdom talking about a bunch of stuff that I can dig up on the internet quicker than they can spit it out. Sure, spring training games might be nice. But, it's only going to take away more games from ESPN, TBS, FOX, WGN in the long run. I do agree with whoever said that MLB is agreeing to this to get more revenue from MLB.TV. MLB is who will be cashing in big time, not DirecTV. And once the cable companies and Dish see how badly DirecTV gets screwed in this deal, they aren't going to be willing to cough it up later after having it taken away from them. This is not a good deal for anyone, except MLB. They are getting from DirecTV alone what everyone paid them last year. People aren't going to switch to DirecTV. They'll order MLB.TV. That's probably what I'll end up doing.
  21. Selfishness is becoming the norm in this country. It's quite sad. One day when your car is sitting on the side of the road all broken down, someone will drive by without stopping and say, "should have bought a car that runs. Enjoy your walk, dude." Same attitude. Different day.
  22. My level of baseball interest is because of the access. Take away the access and my interest level dwindles. Maybe that's just me, but I doubt it. Fantasy baseball leagues are everywhere. Fantasy baseball has had a pretty impressive impact on MLB. I'm hoping Cox ponies up the cash. If not, I'll have to figure something out.
  23. No one is hating on DirecTV. I have my business phone, home phone, email address, internet service and tv's through my cable company. I get a nice sized discount by having the 3 way package. Why should I have to give up any or all of that? Personally, I don't want an ugly dish sticking off the side of my house, either. There are many people living in apartment complexes that are not allowed to hang satellite dishes. What are these people supposed to do to get MLB EI? I've been getting MLB EI for several years now. All of a sudden, I can't have it anymore unless I switch to DirecTV or my cable company picks it up? It's very nazi-ish.
  24. Ryan Shealy will probably be getting most of the playing time at 1b.
  25. I've never been overly fond of Victor Zambrano, either. But, I suppose he might be a good sleeper pick on your team. :D Ryan Wagner is a pretty big reach in your bullpen, also.
